Numb, cold and metallic. They drifted into the void of nothingness. The silent white noise didn't trouble them, in fact, they found it comforting and fitting to who they had become. A cold, calculated machine with no memory of their past self or home. They had no thoughts whatsoever. All they could do was embrace the chilling feeling of floating in space.
But an upcoming disturbance was approaching as they heard a voice call for them, repeating itself over and over.
“…Kamaria..”
“…”
“…KAMARIA!”
Flinching themself awake, Kamaria opened their eyes to an annoyed anthropomorphic bird suited with colourful warm feathers and a pearly white beck. Its eyes lacked a pupil of any kind but glowed a cold blue. Covering its glowing figure was a dull formal attire, mixed with natural, earthy colours such as brown and a dying green. It was none other than Kamaria's teacher, Mr. Heripha.
He didn't seem pleased in the slightest as he scolded at them.
"Glad you're awake. Now, pack yourself and leave." Heripha demanded.
"Ok…wait HUH?!" Kamaria panicked. They thought they were being asked to leave the class and in distress, they looked for the support of their classmates but was shocked to realise…that none of them were here.
"Where is everyone?"
"At home." Heripha answered.
"Why?" They asked, confused.
Heripha rubbed his eyes before responding. "It's 4pm, Kamaria. Class finished over an hour ago!" He yelled.
Kamaria blankly stared at Mr. Heripha before their brain kicked in.
"Wait, if class finished an hour ago then why did you wait until an hour to wake me up?"
Picking up his suitcase, Heripha walked towards the door and turned off the lights to the empty, spacious classroom.
"I didn't wait for you. I just forgot my suitcase so you got luck." He scoffed. "Now get out of my class."
Leaving the classroom with a grumpy Heripha, they parted ways and began to head home. Well, Mr. Heripha at least, Kamaria had other things to do.
The sky warmed up with evening hues of purple, pink and orange with the moons of dawn rising into view. Chilling winds swept past Kamaria as they strolled into the streets of Kybro, a city filled with reincarnated mechanical beings ranging from a small gadget to a towering mech. Kybro was a bustling city that never slept because no one ever did.
Kamaria glanced at the sky and the split sign in front of them.
《 • Downtown Syn | Uptown Mere • 》
"It's late. Might as well grab a bite." They shrugged, walking down the stairs into Syn. The stairs were concrete with walls plastered with graffiti and posters. The further down they went, the more grotesque and vile it became. Arriving at its entrance, they clicked open their arm to change their settings.
Enabling and disabling outside activity, Kamaria fixed themselves into 'consumer' mode to avoid being a target. Once handled, they took a gasp of air and opened the doors.
Fighting through Kamaria pulled their hood up and walked through the crowds. Filled stores and people of every kind. Neon signs flashed above them, the scent of lust and spices overwhelmed them and the gentle whispers of prostitutes pursued them but they prevailed. Pushing on, they had finally made it to their destination, a small restaurant exclusive to active, late night youth of Kybro. A sigh of relief left them as they entered.
The cheers and laughter echoed throughout the room with fellow mechanical youth, playing amongst the arcade machines or surrounding a booth filled with greasy foods. Different gangs and groups would collide and compete with each other here, because there was no place quite as free as The Maulery Diner.
Tending to the bar was a good friend of Kamaria, an intimidating mecha with a heart made of gold. He was 7ft tall, bulking with shiny, black armour and released steam every now and then. He was none other than Jubilee. With a smile, Kamaria approached him, watching his two long antennas twitch at the nearing steps.
“Busy night?” Kamaria asked.
“Good. That’s how I like it!” He playfully responded, turning towards Kamaria. He leaned towards her with his head resting in his metallic palms. “What are we having tonight?”
"A round of moonshine." They replied.
