Bex laid on a new bed, her arms around Lyssa, their naked bodies pressed close together. The sun was getting ready to set and orange and soft yellow rays of light illuminated the room. They hadn't gone into the room with the intention to dissolve into another passionate session of lovemaking but like more often than not recently, they couldn't help themselves.
They were in Bex's new room in Lyssa's house. As of a few days ago Lyssa finally finished decorating it and furnishing it. The bed frame was made of long twisted sticks and logs that curved up into bedposts that looked very much like fall trees, to match the room theme of course. Her headboard was also made up of twisted fake logs and roots it all had a very mystical feel to it. Lyssa had got it custom made, just for Bex.
Bex ran her fingers through Lyssa's now medium length black hair. What was once a short bob was now grown out to the bottom of her neck, or rather the tips of her shoulders. They stayed silent as Bex just absently ran her fingers through Lyssa's hair. Both of them just basking in the afterglow of sex.
"You're making me sleepy," Lyssa closed her eyes and snuggled up closer to Bex.
"You can't fall asleep," Bex pointed out.
"Stop rubbing it in."
Bex smiled and kissed the back of Lyssa's neck.
They were silent once more. Bex tried to feel Lyssa's emotions and hear her thoughts but the vampire, as usual, blocked her out.
"You don't have to hide from me." Bex rested her head on Lyssa's shoulder.
"I know."
"Then don't."
"I want you to enjoy this moment, that's all." Lyssa opened her eyes and stared at the painted forest on the wall.
"It's okay to think about her, I won't be mad."
"I find it unwise to think of my Ex while currently in the arms of the girl I love."
"You loved her, you lost her. It's okay to think about her, I'll understand."
"We used to lay just like this after making love," Lyssa whispered.
Bex kissed Lyssa's shoulder and wrapped her arms tighter around her.
"You can tell me,"
"I'd always wrap one of her blond curls in my finger and she would tease me by singing some silly song she made up. Always teasing me about the way I made love. It used to make me laugh." Lyssa smiled at the memory.
"Used to?"
"Well before she left me for McKinley the sex wasn't that great between us anymore. Afterword she would always complain to me. We would lay like this but we would just be glaring off into the distance in silence as both of us did not feel satisfied. The song wasn't so funny then."
"Well, I think you give me great sex," Bex smirked against Lyssa's bare shoulder.
"Really? You aren't just saying that to make me feel better?" Lyssa turned to face her.
"No way, if it was awful I would tell you."
"I have no doubt you would." Lyssa pushed a lock of Bex's hair behind her ear.
Bex giggled.
For a moment Lyssa was taken out of that moment and into a new one. Her eyes were drawn to Bex's lashes which caught the sunlight just right, splashing her face in sunset colors of oranges, yellows, with just a hint of lavender. There was a tightness in her chest as she felt sure she was looking at an angel.
Bex silently watched Lyssa her soft hazel eyes reflecting back Lyssa's own vulnerable expression.
"I don't want to think about her when I'm with you," Lyssa whispered.
"I don't mind if you do. Everyone grieves differently." Bex grabbed Lyssa's hand under the covers and interlocked their fingers.
"No. When I'm with you I'm so happy. You make me feel like the luckiest person on the planet just by being with me. Just looking at your smile, into your gorgeous eyes, I feel all warm inside. Lacy never made me feel that. No one did. So if you make me feel that way, that's all I want to make you feel too. I just want you to be happy my love."
"I am happy," Bex said in a whisper equal to Lyssa's.
"You aren't just saying that?"
"No."
"Then why are you blocking me out?"
"I just want you to grieve, I don't want to bombard you with all my sappy happy thoughts. Just like you don't want to bombard me with all dark and depressing thoughts."
"Why are we like this?" Lyssa chuckled softly.
"That's what people do when they love each other, they give each other space when they need it."
"I don't want space anymore Rebecca, I just want you."
"I'm right here." Bex giggled and flashed her signature smile.
"I know, and I love that about you. Always there when I need you to be."
"That's my job. It's a girlfriend thing,"
"No, it's a Rebecca thing." Lyssa withdrew her hand from Bex's so that she could run her fingers across Bex's cheek softly.
Bex opened her mind to let Lyssa feel what she was feeling. What Lyssa saw was that insecurity Bex felt, the fear that Lyssa would leave her again. A vulnerability to Lyssa and the power the vampire held over her both physically and emotionally. Her craving for Lyssa to reveal her own deep inner thoughts and accept Bex into her as part of her soul. That feeling that made her heart race, her throat close up, her cheeks flush, and her palms sweat. That deep need to be loved and held, to be comforted and reminded that what they have is real and always would be.
Lyssa nearly gasped at the strong emotions that suddenly bombarded her. She let out a shaky breath and moved even closer to Rebecca, their lips just brushing against each other. Lyssa closed her eyes and enjoyed feeling the emotions she was getting from Rebecca, her Rebecca. She pressed their foreheads together and opened up her thoughts, her own emotions. Letting Bex feel Lyssa's own cravings for the same thing, her own calling out for love. Showing Bex just how much she really needed her and how much she truly loved her.
Their emotions tangled together into a beautiful web. Laying out a map of their combined consciousness. They let each other in, for good and that final dam of their bond gave way. Now they would always hear each other's thoughts, feel each other's emotions no matter what. They would always know where the other was without having to ask, they would always know when the other was in danger. It was complete. Their souls now officially bound, forever.
Bex sucked in a bit of air, overwhelmed by the feeling. It was like molten metal was being poured into her, filling her up and casting her into a perfect person. All those gaping holes, all those cracked and imperfect parts of her, every secret dark corner of her mind filled up with Lyssa essence encasing her in a protective coating.
Lyssa shuddered after feeling the same thing.
They said no words, no words needed to be said. They understood everything about each other now, emotionally, physically, spiritually, everything. They leaned into each other, their lips pushing into one another. A perfect fit, a soft, gentle, kiss. When they broke apart, they looked into each other's eyes and fell deeper in love.
"Lyssa, you're beautiful, inside and out," Bex whispered.
"Not as beautiful as you." Lyssa smiled.
They smashed their lips together again, Lyssa rolling on top of Bex ready for round two. Bex ran her hands greedily through Lyssa's hair, already grinding her hips against Lyssa's leg. Lyssa moaned into her mouth.
Before they could really get going again, Bex's phone began to ring. Buzzing on the nightstand next to them. Lyssa grunted in annoyance and quickly reached over to silence the call. They then resumed their lovemaking, but the phone once again started ringing. Lyssa grunted and went to silence it once more but used too much power and crushed the phone in her hand. Bex pulled back.
"Did you just crush my phone?"
"I'll buy you a new one."
"My parents are going to be—" Lyssa cut her off by kissing her.
Bex rolled her eyes but relaxed into the kiss and once again wrapped her arms around the vampire and resumed their lovemaking.
Joan sighed and set her phone down.
"Well?" Darci asked.
"No answer, she's probably with Lyssa." Joan glared at her phone screen, no longer wearing glasses as she had switched to contacts permanently.
"She's going to be late to her own New Year's Eve party?" Mike shoved his hands into his jean pockets.
"She better get home or she's grounded," Bex's mom said as she passed by the group of friends with trays of food in hand.
The Cross family was once again having a family get together. It was a tradition that they held Christmas and new year's parties while other family members such as Bex's aunt held thanksgiving and Easter.
"So are Bex and Lyssa like doing it?" Bex's cousin who was about 13 years old asked.
She was very nerdy looking and wasn't exactly the prettiest with her bucked teeth in braces and her face covered in acne. She did have the family eyes though and brown hair similar to Bex's. The resemblance was there, even just barely.
"Uh... would you look at that, my mom is calling." Joan lied and quickly walked off.
"I have to pee." Darci quickly followed after.
"What's that over there!" Jaden pointed.
The girl turned to look. While she was distracted Mike and Jaden quickly ran off.
"Yeesh," Joan said now that she and the group were in the backyard.
"Try calling her again," Darci moved some of her own blond curls behind her ear, her many bangles and bracelets jingling on her wrist.
Joan once again dialed the number. Once again, the call didn't get answered. She let out a frustrated sigh.
"Okay I'm just going to say it, I hate that they got back together." Joan ranted.
"Well they love each other," Darci pointed out as she smoothed out her sweater dress.
Joan glared at her.
"Look, as your friend I mean no offense when I say, it's time to move on Joan. Bex obviously isn't interested in you, find someone who is." Darci said.
Joan frowned and looked away.
"You can make it your new year's resolution. Mine is that I'm going to be focusing on myself, doing what makes me happy. Screw whatever anyone else thinks. I broke up with Aron and now I am free to focus on me." Darci boasted.
"Wait you broke up with Aron, since when?" Jaden asked. His warm breath was visible in the cold air.
"Since before Christmas, after he bailed on us at the house when we were fighting Lacy I got into an argument with him and I dumped him. We weren't really a good match anyway. We agreed to just be friends."
"How come you didn't tell us?"
"I wanted to wait until everything died down." She shrugged.
"Well my new year's resolution is that I will be the best wrestler on the wrestling team," Mike interjected.
"You can do it with enough practice." Darci encouraged him.
"I know I can, I believe in myself," he said getting pumped up.
"Yeah yeah yeah, you guys have it easy, focus on yourself, be on the wrestling team. I can't just exactly get over my feelings." Joan crossed her arms.
"You can try, at least. Find some other cute girl, go on a few dates. You never know if you don't try." Darci urged.
Joan sighed and kicked at the ground.
"Well my new year's resolution is to do so good in school I get offered scholarships," Jaden said.
"That's the spirit." Darci smiled.
"You know what you guys are right, my new year's resolution is to find someone who I can be happy with, someone who is into me as much as I am into them," Joan said.
"Yay!" Darci cheered.
The friends smiled and beamed at each other.
"Hey! Sorry I'm late, someone crushed my phone." Bex glared at Lyssa as they joined everyone in the back.
"I said I'd buy you a new one."
"I liked that one! I didn't even get to back up all my stuff." Bex pouted.
"I'll make it up to you, promise."
"You better." Bex huffed and crossed her arms.
"Hey guys, we were just talking about our new year's resolutions, so what's yours?" Darci asked.
"Hmm, haven't thought of it yet. Maybe not being almost killed a bunch of times?" Bex shrugged.
Lyssa rolled her eyes and smiled.
"Lyssa?" Darci turned her.
"My new year's resolution is to no longer be held up by my past. I want to live in the now, with my love. I am ready to be happy." Lyssa wrapped her arms around Bex.
"Aw! You guys are so cute." Darci cooed.
Joan scoffed and rolled her eyes.
Mike pat her good shoulder for comfort.
Joan was mostly all healed up again, with an even bigger scar than before, but she still kept her arm in a sling as to not overwork her shoulder too much. She didn't want to chance it being out of use for good.
Bex's sister skipped outside and over to her singing,
"You're so getting into trouble later,"
"Why?" Bex asked.
"You promised mom you'd help set up, remember? She was so mad she made Nathan and Rory help her."
"Oh, shoot I forgot."
"Emm Hmm, too busy banging your girlfriend," Abby wiggled her eyebrows.
Bex's cheeks went bright red.
"Get lost Abby," Bex snapped at her.
"You're just mad because it's true!" she laughed as she ran back inside.
"Are we that obvious?" Bex looked at Lyssa.
Before Lyssa could respond Joan, Darci, Mike, and Jaden at the same time said, "Yes."
Bex whined and ran her hands down her red face. Lyssa giggled and pulled her hands away.
"Nothing to be ashamed of my love, making love is a natural part of life," Lyssa said.
"Stop it! You're embarrassing me." Bex whined.
Everyone but Joan giggled.
"Rebecca Cross!" her mother called.
"Great now she'll be even madder when I tell her my phone was crushed!" Bex said.
"Be strong my love, you've faced death more times than I can count, you can handle the wrath of your mother," Lyssa said.
Bex sighed and dragged herself back into the house, Lyssa stayed behind.
"So how exactly did you crush her phone?" Mike asked.
"We were in the middle of something, you know, intimate, I guess I just got too excited." Lyssa shrugged.
"Nope, and on that note." Joan walked back into the house.
Lyssa smirked after her in triumph.
"Will you two ever get along?" Darci sighed.
"Not likely considering all that she has put me through."
"Well you said your resolution was not to be hung up on the past, that means Joan too. Think of it as a fresh slate." Mike said.
"Who even sticks to their resolution anyway?" Lyssa grumbled.
Darci sighed again.
Inside the party was in full swing family and friends all just laughing and having a great time. They went out back again later that night to pop fireworks. Bex was sad she couldn't take pictures because Lyssa crushed her phone. Which prompted Lyssa to give Bex her phone, temporarily.
When the new year countdown began, they all looked to the sky and watched as fireworks went off at the town hall, which could easily be seen from Bex's house.
Bex and Lyssa snuck out onto the roof of the house to get a better look. They rested against each other and interlocked their hands.
"Love you," Bex said.
"Love you too, Rebecca."
"I like the way you say my name, no one else says it like you."
"Is that because I have an accent?" Lyssa raised an eyebrow.
"Well yes, but no. I was talking about how you say it with so much love and compassion, even when you're angry with me. I like that. That's a Lyssa thing I think."
"I guess it is," Lyssa smirked.
"I think this is going to be a good year," Bex said.
"Me too."
"My birthday is coming up, by the way, you better make it special or else."
"Oh I plan to, you can count on it."
Bex giggled.
Together they watched in comfortable silence as fireworks lit up the sky.
