Magic's End

Chapter 1: Introduction

Chapter 1: Introduction

Jan 19, 2019

It was a beautiful day in the city of West-Rixon, the sun was shining, the wind was blowing and the birds were chirping. The city itself seemed to be in a rather pleasant mood.

It’s been thirteen years since the event known as the great altering, which threw West-Rixon, along with the rest of the world, into a state of chaos that not every town and city made it out of.

Before the great altering, the life-changing phenomenon known as magic was commonplace in the world known as Asteria, whether it was a knight practicing magic to sharpen their skills, or a blacksmith using magic to aid in their smithing. Everyone was capable of using at least small amounts of magic based on the amount of mana that a person had.

The type of magic that a person could use was entirely based off of the nature of their mana, if your aura was that of electricity, you could use that type of magic and so on for the many different types of magic a person could have.

But after the great alteration, the mana of the world changed, instead of mana’s being that of a person’s life force that could utilized to preform magical while utilizing the magic that was naturally all around them in the world, the magic in the air suddenly disappeared. When that happened, each and every person in the world's mana, seemingly all at once, began to alter their very being, giving them each a special power related to that of their mana's type, these abilities are commonly referred to as quite simply, abilities.

Which now brings us to a house located in the middle district of West-Rixon, where the story begins.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The room was dark with a sliver of morning sunshine seeping through where the curtains couldn’t cover, shining right into the closed eyes of a sixteen-year-old boy lying asleep on a bed in the corner of the room, who was beginning to wake. The boy mumbled something incomprehensible, shifting in his bead while his left hand slowly began to search the floor for something.

“Man...morning light already?” He groaned with his eyes closed, still searching the floor, “Gotta...wake up...or I’m gonna be late...” he mumbled as he continued to lie in bed, searching the floor for something.

“Aha!” he exclaimed as his hand shot up from the side of the bed, holding a pointy item. In the next moment, the boy’s left hand thrust the object straight into his right arm, the shock from the stabbing sent him jumping straight out of his bed. Now fully awake, the boy quickly grabbed a glass bottle from a table that was located beside his bed and put it over the wound, collecting his blood.

After filling the bottle abnormally fast, the boy put a cork over the bottles opening, then put the bottle down so that he could begin getting dressed for the day. After getting dressed he took the bottle of blood and attached it to his belt and went to prepare breakfast while his wound was already scabbed over. After making and starting to eat his sandwich that consisted of only bread and cheese, he remembered that he was already short on time and continued to eat his sandwich while getting fully prepared to quickly leave. Figuring that he could finish his sandwich on his way to the academy, which is what he was going to be late for. But in the end, he stubbed his toe on the door frame as he was going out the door and dropped the remaining half of his sandwich in the dirt, making him momentarily sad before he continued on to the academy.

On his way to the academy, Rustatsu ran into three stray dogs and a cat. Since they were so fluffy, he couldn’t help but stop and pet them...almost regrettably, emphasis on almost, causing Rustatsu to be late for the academies morning attendance. However, because it was the day of the tier test, his teacher simply smacked him on the head as he entered the class. His teacher, Haijeem Storig, or Mr.Storig as the students call him, was bald with green eyes and a height of five foot five, making Mr.Storig shorter then him who’s six foot three height forced Mr.Storig to stand on stool in order to give him a good smack.

“Rusty! You’re late! If it weren’t the day of the tier test then you’d be heading straight for detention! And by detention…” Mr.Storig said as several knife blades emerged from multiple points on his body where his skin was exposed ”Well, you know what I mean. Now go take your seat!” Mr.Storig yelled at him as he began to head to the front of the class, while Rusty went to take his seat, Rusty being what his people who ended up having to say his actual name, Rustatsu, often called him to make their lives a bit easier. As Rusty took his seat in the front row of the class he could hear some of the other students talking about him, not that he cared, of course, he didn’t bother himself worrying about what they thought of him, considering he never talked to them. They were all too stupid and their abilities were all too useless to make them memorable, which is what Rusty thought as he took his seat.

“Hey," whispered a familiar voice from behind Rusty that he knew all too well as it belonged to one of the only people who Rusty actually bothered to talk to. While turning around to look Rusty began to say something in response but before he could he was slapped in the face mid-sentence by the red-haired girl behind him, “Haha!” she exclaimed with a smile.

“Fuck!” Rusty whispered in anger as he felt the sting of the slap settle on his skin.

“Now that everyone's here!” Mr.Storig spoke to the entire class, “I’ll go over tier’s one more time before we begin the test so you all take it seriously, as you should know, these tests are to let each and every one of you, as well as the kingdom, know what your capable of and also to rank your abilities, like how my ability of breaking apart anything I consume, allowing me to use them to create anything I so choose through my skin, which some of you know better than others!” he paused, raising his arms and making an assortment of weapons and tools stick out of several parts of his arms, his eyes shifting around the room to stare at some of the more troubling students in the class, with Rusty being no exception. Reabsorbing the weapons and tools into his skin he continued, “But even though my ability is so amazing, it’s still only classified as a tier two ability among the five tiers. With tier one being an ability considered to be relatively useless in every term of the word. While a tier two is only viewed as about half useless, tier three usually has the potential to harm others if used incorrectly, tier four's are able to easily harm others without much effort and last but not least tier five abilities which are considered to be strong enough to fight an entire small army and actually have a chance of winning, if that army has no tier five of their own that is,” he finished and then proceeded walk towards the classroom door, “And now it’s time to head to the courtyard to begin the test, everyone, please follow me.”
