Many moons ago, when the Earth was new, and life upon it had just begun; the Great Creator of the world and universe knew something. Something special was missing and it took this Great Creator many years to figure out what that something was. As they weaved together new life, and took away others, they finally figured it out. They had the Angels, their greatest warriors, the Garden full of foliage and the beasts ever hungry, but what the Great Creator didn’t have was something in their own image. So, to indulge in this lust for a familiar yet unfamiliar being they created, Man.
Not all the Angels loved the humans as the Creator did. Even though the Creator asked them to love the humans unconditionally, one Angel in particular could not do as the Creator asked. He loved his maker too much to love anything more than them. For his unwillingness to love what the Great one created, Heaven cast out their Morning Star. His last words to the Creator, was a plea;
“Kamï, don’t do this…”
He was met with indifference in the golden eyes that once held love, with a flick of her hand, the Creator or Kami, banished her lover.
Morning Star or Lucifer, vowed to gain his revenge, and gain his re-entrance into Heaven...no matter the price.
Lucifer created the vampire, to destroy the humans that his Creator loved so much. But they weren’t enough, they were destroyed too easily.
Lucifer then created the Unspeakables; a cross between demon and vampire. A being so vile, so unthinkable, that even Lucifer couldn’t think of a better name than the Unspeakable.
They possessed four fangs, two on top, and two on the bottom, their tongues were forked like that of a snake, and they had red eyes that turned black when they sensed blood. They were pale; so pale one could see the blue of the veins beneath their skin. They had heart beats, but they beat so slow, only an Angel or the Creator above could hear them. They had superhuman strength, and speed, coupled with agility; they were unstoppable.
But it was all futile. At the fall of his campaign, Lucifer lost everything; what little love remained in the Creator’s heart for him, his glory, and his creations; his Unspeakables.
The Unspeakables craved power; but didn’t possess the intelligence of their predecessor to be organized on their own. Without the guidance from their Northern star, they spent years finding a new leader; all the while causing havoc on Earth.
A thousand years had passed since the Fall. And still, Morning Star, now known to many as Lucifer; was up to his broken halo in damned souls.
When he fell, Hades, the God of the Underworld, gave him a portion of his realm to become Christianity's Hell. It was small, and overcrowded. After All, he was the first stop before either eternal damnation or the everlasting nirvana.
Lucifer rolled his fingers across the black marble of the throne he sat on, his golden feathered wings spread wide, but in a relaxed stance; once a symbol of his status, now they served as a constant reminder of what he had lost.
The love of the Creator, his home amongst his brethren, and his own creations. He was stuck with fickle Demons, and the first draft of his vampires. Of course, these creatures unlike their cousins could hold an intellectual conversation...and looked human. What they lacked in power, they made up for in intelligence. Sometimes Hades himself would visit, pitying the cast aside Archangel, but more often than not, Lucifer was alone.
The Knights of Hell, as he liked to refer to them as, were the Fallen. His consort, Beezlebub amongst them. There was not a day that went by that Lucifer didn't spend regretting getting Zell involved in all of this. She made a fine queen of course, only rivalled in beauty by Persephone the Queen of the Underworld. But they had their own miniature realms within his own to contend with, and Zell enjoyed being topside...she had a fascination with mages.
His wings began to glow, and they felt warm for the first time in a millennium which only meant the Creator was near, or thinking of him. They were of the same soul, eternally tied to the other. Modern day humans would call them soulmates. Sitting up a bit straighter, Lucifer waited for the silver light that was the Creator.
Finally, the light appeared and began to shape itself into a humanoid form until it was completely corporeal. The Creator was as beautiful as ever. Her golden eyes and silver hair contrasted greatly against her dark skin, and her silver and white robes hung tightly around her curves. It was no wonder Lucifer fell in love with his Creator.
Her back was bare and he could see the constellations scattering across her skin, constantly changing, he could watch her skin change all day, and he once was able to, and he would trace the constellations with his fingers, and kiss the shooting stars, following their path wherever they were going in the Heavens.
If she hadn't asked him to love her new creations more than he loved her, he would still be by her side, still be her most trusted warrior. Still be her lover.
"Hello Star." Her voice was soft, but held all the power she possessed. It had been a thousand years, but still his heart raced and his wings heated even more at the nickname for his true name, his Archangel name, Morning Star.
"Hello Kamï." Lucifer looked into her eyes, and felt his soul begin to bloom, he had been without her for so long that it had begun to wither and die.
"We have a problem Star."
"My name is Lucifer. The Morning Star you knew has died."
Lucifer managed to say those words with as much malice as his nature would allow him. Even if it hurt him in the process.
"Fine then, Lucifer. We have a problem. Both Heaven and Hell are overrun with souls. Souls that have died before their time. Your creatures are causing havoc on the Natural Order."
"Why do you need me? Why not ask Michael to aid you?"
Lucifer rolled his crimson eyes at the thought of his twin brother taking his place beside Kamï. Doing everything he once did.
"He cannot help with this task Lucifer. I had need of your tainted soul."
"For what?" He hated that he was now referred to as Tainted. Fallen, broken.
"We need to create a new race."
"Isn't that how this all began?" Lucifer found himself asking aloud.
"It was a mistake to ask you to love a race above me. You had sworn to love me and only me. I shouldn't have tried to make you break that vow, and I shouldn't have cast you out in my anger."
Lucifer allowed himself to look at her. She had apologized to him. Did she still care? Did he dare allow himself that hope?
"What do you propose we do?”
"Take part of our eternal souls and combine them with an innocent soul."
"For what purpose?"
"When the time is right, this soul will be the mother of our new race. A race of heroes unlike any other."
"How do we ensure this soul remains untainted?"
"We pose as the baby's parents until such a time that she is ready to take up her responsibility."
"You want to raise a human daughter with me?"
"Yes. Technically she would be a Nephilim. With both demon and angel inside her."
"I accept. On the condition that this new race will be ruled by the both of us equally."
"Of course."
"Then my dearest Kamï, I declare a truce."
"I accept your truce...Lucifer."
The Creator sent down the soul of Accalia; the, would be, mother of her and Lucifer’s new race. They guarded her closely, following her as she grew and changed, assuring she maintained her innocence. When she was twenty, they orchestrated her path being crossed with an injured wolf. They lent her the knowledge of how to care for the creature; grooming her until they felt she was ready to know what had to come next. The Creator changed the wolf to a man; and gave Accalia the instruction to bed the wolf-man.
The pair produced twin wolves, a set of Nephilim-wolf hybrids. When they grew and matured, Accalia had come to the end of her life. She made the decision to split her soul between her sons, Romus and Romulus. Creating, unwittingly the first two Guardians. Romus ventured to Italy where he found Rome, and he created a long line of Protectors. A race of humans unable to shift like their cousins, more due to necessity than inability in the earlier lineage, but sworn to protect and conceal the Guardians. Whilst Romulus went to Romania, where he found his mate; and produced the Guardians.
A time of peace came forth, the time of Romus and Romulus and their offspring was a time of prosperity, of good health, and innovation. But when the Guardians and Protectors were into their fifth generation; a new foe emerged. A new leader for the Unspeakables. The being called himself the All Powerful One; which played well with the dim minds of the Unspeakables of the age.
He started as lowly Mage, no more than an apprentice, but he had caught the attention of the Queen of Hell…which in itself was a curse. Beelzebub had always been infatuated with humans. Humans that possessed magic that was usually reserved for noble creatures such as her consort and her Maker. She watched the mage for many nights before she revealed herself and her nature to him.
The mage, Severin possessed powerful magic that surpassed even the greatest warlocks she had come across in her many centuries serving as the Queen to Lucifer’s King. She found herself falling in love with the human male, and she also found herself betraying her King and their benefactor by handing over a spell that Hades kept locked away in the pits of Tartarus.
Little did the Queen know, that the spell would change everyone’s lives forever. Including hers.
“Severin, before you perform this spell…I need you to think it through. Once it’s done, it cannot be reversed. After the twenty days your magic will be gone.”
“I know the risks and I don’t care. This is what I am destined for. You were the one who showed me my destiny, why would I choose to ignore it? It’s everything we’ve always wanted me to be.”
Beelzebub watched as the mage she had fallen for performed the Dragon’s Curse spell. She watched as the papyrus it was written on burned to a crisp. Her heart ached because after the spell wore off, Severin could never be the ‘All-Powerful one’ again.
Those twenty days and nights were long, and disastrous; the mage had transformed into a scaly beast, larger than any creation the Good Creator had ever envisioned for the Earth. The beast; a thousand feet high, and just as wide, its eyes held no emotion; and its fiery breath would kill millions without a second glance or thought. Severin became an absolute horror and made the world quake with his power.
The Guardians of the age were led by a fiery Alpha female, with hair black as night and skin as white as lily petals. She led a ferocious pack of Guardians desperate to prove they weren’t just the Creator’s lackeys. Many Guardians lost their lives, blood was shed and painted the ground…Lucia needed it to end, but this monster wasn’t an Unspeakable, it wasn’t like anything she had ever faced before. Even her Elders were lost on what to do next.
Lucia knew that the only way to survive was to either kill the beast, that seemed to be impervious to manmade weapons and Guardians themselves…or they had to find a way to lock the monster away.
On the twentieth night, the Guardians hoped that it would end; but it didn’t. The mage had found a way; in his enlightened form to make the spell almost permanent. In such a way that this “Dragon’s Curse” could be passed down through the generations. If and when there came a time for peace once more; it would lay in the paws of the Guardians and their Protectors.
To Lucia’s count, the thirteenth night of the monster's ceaseless attack, Lucia found help in the most unlikely place, Hell. The Queen of the literal Damned came to her encampment that night.
“To what, do I owe this honor?” Lucia questioned as the Fallen Angel sat across from her,
“The Dragon cannot be killed…but I believe I can lock him away in his own dimension.”
“Is that what you call that atrocity? What do you need from me?”
“A distraction, if you and your pack mates wouldn’t be too opposed to a team up.” Beelzebub solemnly mocked.
“I, of course, would need to discuss this with my mate.”
“Do not wait too long young Alpha. With each life he takes, the stronger he becomes.”
Beelzebub disappeared in a cloud of red, leaving Lucia to contemplate her options. She could either let this dragon kill thousands of the humans she was sworn to protect and even more of her own people, or she could align herself with the Queen of Hell and save countless lives. She called for her mate, who was waiting nearby and quickly explained the Queens proposal.
“Lazarus, what should we do?”
“I say we take the Queen’s offer. Not doing so would result in countless deaths on all sides. We can finish this battle before it becomes a greater war, Lucia.”
“What if it backfires, or he finds a hole in the dimension or something and escapes?”
“Then we do it again, and again until he figures out that we will never give up.”
Lucia’s grimaced, then she threw her head back and groaned.
“I don’t even know how to call her to us. She just showed up.” Promptly in another puff of red, the queen materialized in all her regal glory. A smirk plastered to her façade, like she knew they wouldn’t turn her down.
“I never left darling. Now then, what is your plan for distracting Severin? He was intelligent before the spell, now his genius knows no bounds.”
“Wait…you know who he is?”
“Yes. I am the one who gave him the spell. I didn’t think it would be like this. I thought he would be pleased with the twenty nights and the knowledge he was capable of performing such an ancient spell. I believed that he would finally be satisfied.” A lone tear streaked down the left side of her unfeeling face. Hastily she wiped away the offending drop.
“You’re in love with him.” Lucia whispered, her eyes widening.
“Not that that matters, but yes, I am. Severin caught my attention, he was different than the other mages I have come across in my many centuries exploring Earth. He possessed so much untapped power and his masters were squandering it, making him do menial work…to prove himself they said, as if that was a good enough excuse.”
“So, you gave him the spell?”
“At first I freed him from his imprisonment by those fools. But as he began to understand his powers his hunger for more grew. He begged me to aid him in his quest for more power and I couldn’t refuse. My foolishness had me go to the deepest pits of Tartarus to break the spell out of the containment charm that Hades put on it. It wasn’t easy but the Severin I knew was worth it. I warned him that it was a onetime spell, that once it was over, that was it.”
