Blood slowly flowed across the uneven floorboards, seeping into the cracks and crevices. It ran around the room in a haphazard circle. The candlelight flickered though there was no breeze in the space, making the wet liquid almost sparkle. A woman kneeled along the line of blood, raking a jagged object along her arm. She sobbed hysterically, wiping the oozing blood from her wounds and running her hands along the floor to complete the circle. Blood stained her dress as well, a large blotch around her abdomen that was ripped open and gashed. The opening in her dress showed her stomach swollen out with child.
With yet another flicker of the candle, one figures in the room became two. The woman remained kneeled as the new figure stood tall within the crude circle. The figure was a person of unnatural beauty, looking neither male or female, but nonetheless looking rather irritated to be bothered.
"What have you summoned me for human?" Their voice was deep and smooth, though their irritation shone through sharply. Their eyes of liquid gold scanned over the haggard woman, landing on the large wound across her swollen belly. Their eyebrow raised as a faint sound reached their ears, beating rapidly. Soon after a feeling swept over towards them, catching them by surprise. The woman crawled closer to the figure in the middle of the circle, her voice stuttering.
"Please.. I have done everything I could.. nothing has worked. I need your help.."
"I beg you Lucifer, KILL THIS CHILD" She screamed with such a force suddenly, her crazed eyes looking up to the figure.
The thudding in their ears was a child in the womb of this woman. Lucifer ignored her, listening closer for the quick little beats within her body. The presence inside her body was pulling them in, calling out to them in a desperate, soft plea.
"Please. Let me live..."
The woman had conjured the summoning circle to kill this alluring thing, but it pulled Lucifer in more than that worthless human could. The presence seemed so familiar to them. It called to them more than anything. A familiar warmth they hadn't felt in eons.
After a long pause they sighed and held out their hand to the woman, who grasped at it with a mad face. It took everything for Lucifer to not recoil from her. They put on a smile and patted her bloody hand.
"Alright. I will grant your wish. But every wish comes with a price, I'm sure you know?"
She nodded her head quickly. "I don't care, I don't care. Take whatever you want. Just kill this thing!"
Lucifer sighed and kneeled down, holding the woman away from them. They released the womans hand and reached towards her swollen stomach. Their hand slid across the wound along her belly before they slowly began to dig their claws inside. Not too deep, just enough to get what they needed. After a short moment they removed their hand and brought the blood they had collected to their lips. A small gulp, the mixed blood they needed. It was done.
"...Your wish will be granted. The child will die."
They stood back up and stepped away from the woman. Their eyes watched closely at her belly, the wound began to heal on its own. They spit the remnants of the blood onto the floor and listened. The heartbeats gradually grew stronger. Lucifer turned away with a small smile that the woman couldn't see.
They heard a gasp as the woman felt a small movement inside her stomach, a kick. The child was very much alive.
"Wait.. It's.. It's still.." Her hands clenched at her stomach, her face twisting once again.
"You said.. You said you would kill it.."
She began to crawl after Lucifer, her bloodshot eyes wide at them.
Lucifer turned around once again and glared at the woman.
"I didn’t say WHEN, human."
She began to scream, crawling faster towards them.
"NO! NO! KILL IT NOW. KILL IT. KILL IT-"
Lucifer vanished, the candlelight going out with a stream of smoke curling around the fuse. Screams echoed throughout the room, the house, the walls, the town. The baby kicked once again.
