13th July, 2045.
Dear Sally.
This is not the first nor the last attempt I’ve made to try and contact you. I know I should be keeping track of how many tests I carry out but I lost count when the attempts were nearing a googolplex.
When the anomaly first appeared I was sure I could harness it’s power and open a gateway . my collogues and I were excited , how could we not. We had only ever theorized about such an occurrence and now we had the privilege to go beyond the theory aspect.
We spent tireless hours trying to decode the anomaly. Trying to figure out it’s inner workings. The lack of funding and ever decreasing enthusiasm didn’t make things any easier.
I am no longer regarded as a man of science, my career is anything but alive. I’ve spent years and years trying to reach the other side.
I was all about ready to end it, when suddenly the anomaly begun to widen. It became brighter and brighter . I was drunk as an elephant on a dozen tranquilizers, but I heard you. I heard you call my name Sally.
It might have been a hallucination but it felt real. The slight shiver in your voice when you call my name was all the proof I needed. I hope it was real.
Forever yours John.

Dear John.
I hope I didn’t keep you waiting long. you always hated when I did that. I received your letter about a month ago. We spent the rest of our time trying to stabilize the bridge between our two worlds.
How long ago did the anomaly appear on your world?
I have so many questions to ask you, the amount of quantifiable differences and similarities.
How many other worlds have you contacted?
Are we still married in your world?
I noticed that you haven’t been lucky to receive the same amount of support as us. But now with this letter you’ll be sure to prove those bastards wrong. You’ll definitely achieve your dream of receiving the Nobel peace prize.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Sally.

Dear Sally.
I am so glad you weren’t a drunk hallucination. You were right, at the time of writing this I was nominated for the Nobel prize. The Supreme High Chancellor delivered the news himself.
You might not know this but The Supreme High Chancellor is the supreme ruler of our world. I don’t know how many wars you guys had but we had three. The third one was the war to end all wars.
We had a nuclear war, more than half of the population was killed. No one has been to the surface in decades. Society didn’t collapse, instead we banded together under one unified world government.
The anomaly appeared ten years ago. My world’s Sally your Counterpart was the first to come in contact with it. She was the one who got the idea of communication between worlds stuck in my head.
The anomaly gave her cancer and she passed on leaving me to carry on her dream.
I would be intrigued to hear about the differences between me and my counterpart.
Forever yours, John,
3rd October,2045.
Dear John.
Congratulations you deserve it, you are a brilliant man. Something you seem to share with your counterpart. I’m so sorry to hear about your wife’s death. On my world we have a cure for cancer. It’s such a shame it took us so long to open the gateway, I would have loved to meet your wife she seemed like a passionate woman.
The anomaly appeared on my world ten years ago also. I poured all my time and energy into my work, it took a toll on my marriage. Your counterpart left me and got full custody of the kids. I see them every weekend and holidays but it never feels enough. I guess it’s safe to say, the anomaly screwed up both our marriages.
Your planet is slowly healing while mine is on its last legs. The lack of resources has made conflicts pop up in every region of the globe. The polar ice caps have started melting. You can’t go outside without a gas mask if the pollution doesn’t kill you the different kinds of deadly viruses will.
I can’t help but wonder, this anomaly is the universe giving our species a second chance, what do you think? I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Sally.

Dear Sally.
I’m sorry you had to choose between your work and your family. I never had kids. Sally and I always fantasied about having triplets . we even picked out names for them. Sammy, she would take after her mother in beauty and elegance .Naya he would take after me in my awkward mannerism and Arhut he’d be the best of both of us.
It took some convincing but the Joint Supreme Cabinet has agreed to share top secret information.
We recently sent out our first manned mission to mars. We discovered a source of energy on the red planet that could grant us near light speed travel.
They are willing to share with you, it’s composition maybe you might be able to replicate it. They will share with you that information if you give us the cure to cancer.
This could be the start of an ideal synergy.
Yours forever, John.
3rd December,2045.
Dear John.
You have no idea how happy I was to receive your letter. You are the salvation of our species.
I have two kids they are so cute, Sammy and Junior. You would love them to pieces. Because of you they will be able to grow up and live full happy lives.
Attached to the letter, the formula for the cure.
Yours Faithfully,
Sally.
2nd May,2046.
Dear Sally.
Happy birthday Sally. I’m sorry it took me so long to reply.
The cure you sent us didn’t help at all. It seemed to make everything worse, it made it mutate ;cancer is now transmittable, it’s airborne.
Thousands of people are dying every day. The government doesn’t know what to do, they don’t trust you anymore. They are looking to contact other worlds for help. By the time you read this if help doesn’t arrive soon, humanity on my world will be wiped out.
I no longer have access to the anomaly , I had to sneak in to send you this letter and the composition data of the exotic matter energy.
They wouldn’t let me do it, so I did it secretly because I know you. You wouldn’t willing do something like this. It must have been the differences in our genes or maybe something else. There has to be another explanation.
Forever yours ,John.
3rd May,2045.
Dear John.
I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you this but my side started building a physical doorway to other worlds. They thought if they were working on a doorway maybe you were too. They feared what that might intel if you completed your door first. You have an organized government and you would make quick work of us. So they wanted to slow you down.
I didn’t think really think it would affect you that much.
No one knows this but I have written in invisible ink the real cure.
I’m so sorry.
Yours faithfully.
Sally.
13th July,2046.
Dear John.
Today is the anniversary of the day we started writing to each other. I hope you’re okay. Thanks to you we were able to leave the planet just before its distraction . we are forever in your debt.
Yours faithfully.
Sally.
31st December, 2046
Dear John.
you were right , the exotic matter enabled us to travel at light speed. It was great until we passed our destination and couldn’t find a way to stop.
We so desperately wanted to leave earth and go kill another planet. We left earth but the universe had other plans in mind. We wanted to stop and right now we have done just that.
As you near the event horizon of a black hole you have lots of time to think about life and the universe in general.
Time stops and all you have are your thoughts and nothing else. I always seemed to blame the anomaly for my failed relationships. It takes staring into the universe’s unforgiving dark eraser to realize how much of a mistake you are.
Maybe the anomaly wasn’t sent to give us a second chance at all, maybe it was sent to finish the job. Job well done anomaly.
It’s midnight. happy new year.
Yours forever, Sally.
