The trap and life changer

The trap and life changer

Author’s Note:

💖Hi readers!

I wanted to share a quick note about how the outline and pace of this novel are structured.

first few chapters you will find answer a few crucial questions :

Why did Sanjay, the sole heir of the massive Roy Enterprises, walk away from his family's wealth to become an ordinary doctor?

What happened in his life that forced a dedicated doctor back into the brutal corporate business world?

Why did Martin, a brilliantly sharp CEO, allow his only son to become a doctor in the first place? And under what exact conditions is Sanjay now forced to work as a regular, low-level employee in his own family's company? After this foundation romance will Spark.

If you enjoy the journey, please take a moment to like, comment, and subscribe.

It all began the day I returned to my corporate desk after taking a four-day leave of absence.

I barely had time to sit down before my best friend, Kalix, was already hovering over my cubicle, eagerly waiting for me.
"What happened, Kalix?" I asked, looking up at his restless expression.

Kalix leaned in closer, dropping his voice to a whisper. "Sanjay, I need to tell you something important. A new girl came by the department yesterday while you were gone. I don't know her name yet, but she is exactly your type. She’s the precise kind of person you always describe to me."

I forced my expression to remain completely neutral. If I showed even a microscopic hint of excitement, Kalix would never let me hear the end of it.

"So what?" I shrugged indifferently, turning back to my monitor.
"Let's just start working."
But internally, my mind was racing.

Kalix had never mentioned a potential partner to me like this before.

Curiosity gripped me so tightly that I couldn't shake it, though I knew I would have to wait until tomorrow to find out who she truly was.

The next morning,

I rushed to the office exceptionally early. My heart pounded with anticipation as I waited for the new hire Kalix had described.
Yet, as the morning dragged on, the desk next to mine remained frustratingly vacant.
By the time Kalix finally strolled into the office, his jaw dropped in absolute shock. It was the first time since joining Roy Enterprises that I had ever arrived before him.

"Sanjay... is that really you?" Kalix stammered, staring at me as if he had seen a ghost.
I quickly turned my face away from his searching eyes, pulling open a spreadsheet. "Let's just focus on our work."

"Oh, really?" Kalix teased, a smirk spreading across his face. "So you suddenly love corporate labor now, and that's why you arrived before sunrise?"

"Keep quiet," I hissed under my breath, glancing around nervously.
"The others are coming in."

Kalix’s teasing words hit a deep chord because the truth was, I hadn't come to this towering skyscraper to build a corporate career. To the rest of the world, I was just a nameless cubicle drone. In reality, I was a fully qualified oncologist.

The mystery of why a medical doctor was currently stuck working here as an ordinary, low-level employee was a story for later.

Two grueling days passed under those tense conditions. And then, the moment finally arrived.

"Hey, look. The new hire is here," a colleague whispered near the water cooler, nudging the person next to them.

I stopped typing, my heart skipping a sudden, erratic beat.

"This is our newest team member joining us today," the department manager announced to the floor.
She stepped forward, a polite, confident smile resting on her lips. "Hi everyone. My name is Sara. I'm looking forward to working with you all."

Sara.

The name echoed beautifully through my mind, perfectly fitting the face I knew I wouldn't be able to forget.
The manager gestured toward the empty desk right beside mine.

"Sara, you'll be sitting right here next to Sanjay."

I smiled faintly, keeping my eyes fixed on her as she settled into her new space. To anyone else, it looked like a simple workplace crush. But my situation was anything but normal.

By all rights, I shouldn't have been sitting in a corporate cubicle; I belonged in a hospital ward.

However, Martin Roy—the brilliant, ice-cold CEO of Roy Enterprises—is my father. I am his sole heir. He treats life like a psychological game of chess, and when I tried to follow my dream of practicing medicine, he cornered me with an inescapable challenge.

To earn my freedom, I had to strip away my wealth, enter his company as a completely ordinary, undercover employee, and survive his ruthless terms.

To understand how a billionaire doctor ended up hiding in a corporate cubicle waiting for an ordinary girl, you have to go back to where the trap was first set.

The morning sun always hit the towering, razor-sharp glass facade of Roy Enterprises first, casting a blinding, golden glare over the entire city.

To the rest of the world, that skyscraper stood as an unshakeable empire of luxury, wealth, and absolute power. To the world, the name Roy meant everything, and to that world, I was the luckiest bastard alive.

My name is Sanjay Roy, and I am the sole heir to a multi-billion-dollar conglomerate. But to me, the name Roy was just a heavy golden cage that smelled faintly of expensive floor polish and corporate dread.

My parents, Martin and Tara Roy, built this global empire from the ground up through years of relentless hard work. They didn't start at the top. In the company's early days, they had to fight tooth and nail against a fierce competitor that threatened to crush them at every turn.

However, under mysterious circumstances, that rival company suddenly collapsed and closed its doors overnight.
Success quickly met my parents, but so did an absolute, crushing tragedy.

When I was eleven years old, the illusion of our perfect life shattered. My mother, Tara, was diagnosed with stage four cancer.

I still remember the sterile, suffocating smell of that private hospital room, watching her fade away, growing smaller and weaker each day.

All of my father's billions couldn't buy her a single extra breath of life.
As her health rapidly deteriorated, my father's brother, Rajeer, entered our lives.

He began working for the company with an apparent honesty, gradually earning my father's complete trust. My father, completely blinded by the emotional agony of my mother's critical illness, slowly delegated vital corporate responsibilities to him.

That vulnerability was our undoing. My uncle Rajeer betrayed us. He secured massive financial loans using my father's name and credentials before absconding into thin air with the wealth.

With my mother fighting for her life in a hospital bed and the company on the brink of ruin, my desperate father was forced to sign a strange, highly restrictive agreement with Rajeer just to secure the stolen medical funds.

He signed away his freedom on those documents just to buy her a few more months. A few months later, my mother passed away anyway.

Watching her suffer changed something deep inside my core. I didn't care about profit margins or market shares. I wanted to fight the monster that took her away from us. I decided right then, standing by her empty bed, that I would become an oncologist.

Following her death, my father became an ice-cold, distant machine, entirely consumed by his work. He treated life like a high-stakes game of chess, and everyone around him—including his own son—was just a pawn to be moved across the board.

For long stretches of time, I felt profoundly isolated. The vast Roy estate was always fully staffed with household workers, but their presence only made the mansion feel emptier. The house was full of people, yet I was completely hollow and lonely on the inside.

Loneliness became my shadow, persisting throughout my school years until it simply became my daily routine. But today, the pivotal day that will permanently alter my life has arrived. My true story begins here.
Upon completing high school, I made a definitive choice.

I sat in our grand, ancestral living room, holding my medical school application tightly in my hands. My palms were slick with sweat as I waited for the sound of his car. Ever since my mother passed, this place hadn't felt like a home at all. It was just a hollow, echoing museum of our collective grief, guarded by silent servants.

My hands trembled violently as I gripped the medical application papers, the crisp white sheets wrinkling under my tight grip. A naive part of me still wanted him to be proud of me. I wanted him to look at my high scores and accept my choice.

Surprisingly, he arrived home early today. The heavy oak front doors finally swung open.
"Sanjay," his sharp, commanding voice cut through the cavernous silence of the hallway before I could even stand up to greet him. "In my study. Now."

I followed him into the dimly lit room, my heart hammering furiously against my ribs like a trapped bird. The study smelled of old leather, rich mahogany, and expensive scotch.

Before I could even open my mouth to present my hard-earned acceptance letter, my father casually slid a thick, leather-bound folder across the polished desk.

"Your enrollment papers for Wharton Business School," he said smoothly, not even looking up from the glowing screen of his tablet.

"You start in the fall. You will take over management of our European sector by the time you turn twenty-five."

My throat went completely dry. At that exact moment, fear paralyzed my lungs. I couldn't even take a proper breath.

My father is not a man you can easily convince. He is exceptionally strict, brilliant, and completely unpredictable. It is humanly impossible to deduce his master plans until they are already executed right in front of you.

If my father sets a trap, escaping it is impossible unless he chooses to tell you the solution.
I have watched powerful people try to test him, and not a single one could ever solve his psychological puzzles. They were always broken.

Despite the overwhelming risk, I forced my voice to remain steady.
"No," I whispered.

My father froze. The sudden silence in the room became thick and suffocating. It was the first time in my entire life I had ever dared to utter the word 'no' to him. He slowly raised his head, his cold, unreadable eyes locking onto mine.

"No? And who do you think will take over this empire when I am gone? You are a Roy, Sanjay. You do not chase fairy tales. You do not waste your life playing doctor. I don't accept it! You are the only heir I have!"

"But Dad, this is my dream," I pleaded, my voice cracking slightly against the cold, unyielding walls of the room.
"I'm going to cure the disease that killed Mom. I won't let another family go through what we did. I have never asked you for anything else. Please, accept this."

"It's impossible," he replied, his voice dropping into a harsh, crude tone that ended the discussion.

Defeated and trembling, I retreated to the isolation of my bedroom. I walked back into the dark room, feeling the crushing, invisible weight of his disappointment pressing down on my shoulders. I honestly thought the battle was over.

I thought I would have to pack a single bag, run away in the middle of the night, and completely cut ties with the family fortune just to pursue my dream.

Outside my door, my father remained in the grand hallway, thinking deeply. A few moments later, my bedroom door swung open without a knock.

My father stood tall in the doorway, the harsh hallway light framing his silhouette. His expression was eerily calm, the anger from earlier entirely vanished, replaced by a calculating glint.

"Sanjay, do you really want to go? If you do, you have to do exactly what I say. Only then will I accept."
Relief washed over me so fast it made my head spin. I was so incredibly happy that he was giving me a conditional approval.

"Dad, whatever your condition is, I will follow it. I will do exactly what you say."
"Fine," my father said, his voice terrifyingly smooth.

"My permission comes with two absolute conditions, Sanjay. Fail either one, and your dream ends.

First: You are never to fall in love, date, or involve yourself with a girl while you are studying. Your mind belongs strictly to your work. No distractions.

Second: The moment you complete your oncology residency, you will return home and do whatever I ask of you. No arguments. No hesitation. Your future will belong to me."

In my blind, desperate excitement to escape this house and achieve my dream,

I didn't stop to think. I didn't stop to analyze the hidden traps or realize just how terrifyingly smart my father truly was. A tiny, nagging doubt flickered in the dark corners of my mind—why did a man like Martin Roy give in so easily?—but I ruthlessly ignored it. I was desperate for freedom.

As my father exited my room, his chief personal assistant, John, was already waiting for him in the hallway. John is a relatively recent addition to the staff, but he has proven to be highly trustworthy.

Ever since his own brother Rajeer betrayed him, my father has never trusted anyone or shared details of our personal life—with the sole exception of John.

When I stepped out of my room to follow them, I saw John standing under the dim hallway light, clutching a thick, official stack of legal documents.

I signed his written contract that very night.

I didn't know then that those legal papers would tie directly back to the dark trap of my future.
