The ocean has a way of being quiet and soothing, while simultaneously deafening and terrifying. Since he was a child, its subtle thrum has been Kyle’s favorite melody. The roar of the sea provides the rhythm, the screeching gulls and howling wind the harmony. The rocks against his back are cool and damp, he can feel their chill even through his jacket, but the wind can’t reach into this hollow in the cliff. He’s sheltered from its bite. 

He lays his head back against the stone and closes his eyes, when he feels a buzzing from the pocket of his jeans. 

“A text so early? That’s unusual…”.

Smiling, he types out a quick reply and starts the walk back up to the road. 

“Probably too windy for the bike today, huh? Hope this job isn’t on the bluffs…”
