“Jeon, what the fuck are you doing.”
I look him dead in the eyes, obviously confused as I was just on my phone, coffee in hand.
“Whatever do you mean, Kim?”
I said with a groan, staring at him as I take a sip of my caramel macchiato I got from the nearby hospital coffee cart.
“What. Are. You. Doing.”
He retorts, nearly spitting on me.
“I’m on my break, Kim. I’m tired.”
“Well, that’s expected, being a doctor, Jeon.”
He responds without missing a beat, yawning as he stretches.
“I need a coffee too. Been up since three.”
“Then buy one yourself, Kim.”
I sigh, realizing I zoned out on an AskReddit thread regarding doctors. I was reading stories of bizarre cases, some of those cases being things I’ve never heard of. I close the app and shut my phone off, putting it in my back pocket as I straighten up, stretching to crack my back.
“Why are you here, Kim?”
I ask after half a second, realizing he was just loitering around.
“Right. Jang asked me to find you so you could go with the paramedics in the ambulance.”
Kim responds, his voice sharp.
“Thanks.”
I mutter, my tone matching his. I turn to leave, nearly pausing before I hear Kim say something. I barely caught it.
“Stay safe, Jeon.”
His voice was soft. Sympathetic. Barely audible.
I still heard it. It brought a smile to my face.
I rush over to the ambulance bay, where our local Paramedic Jang Hanseok was waiting.
“Took you long enough. Now buckle up, we gotta go.”
Jang mutters coldy, obviously tired.
I nod, downing the rest of my macchiato as I buckle my seatbelt.
And we’re off moments later.
Everything is so smooth until we reach the highway.
