First Day-Part 1

First Day-Part 1

Oct 22, 2021

The wheels of the car slid to a halt, and in front of me was the place I had been destined to come to for years. High school. I could already tell how different things were about to be from here on out. The massive building standing in front of me was already proving that.
“Hey, let me take a picture!” my mom exclaimed.
I sighed as I stood in front of her camera.
“Alright done, have a good day at school!” she told me.
I nodded and continued walking towards the entrance. It was packed, students were crowding the area around the school with all their parents behind them.
“Grade 9 students, welcome to high school!” teachers shouted.
I sarcastically nodded and looked down.
“What the heck is that?” I asked myself.
I backed off a little and looked down again. “Welcome grade 9 students!” was painted on the ground. Yea, a little bit excessive. I finally made my way inside, and it blew my mind. In front of me was the main area of the building, the place with the office, cafeteria and many other rooms lined up around it. That's normal though, isn't it? Absolutely not!
The main entrance alone was at least double my elementary school! It was insane!
“Do you know what class you're going to?” a lady asked.
I shook my head, and she proceeded to ask me what subject I had.
“French” I responded, realizing what was happening.
I had French in the first god damn period of the first goddamn day of highschool. Damn it!
“Take a left, then a right. You'll find your class there” the teacher finally told me.
I turned my head towards the hallway she was pointing at and discovered something. I had no idea what she meant, directions never made sense. But staying and asking her would be weird right? Yea, I knew I couldn't do that. That would be dumb.
“Got it thanks” I said to her knowing I was screwed.
“Well, I can look for the room number” thought to myself.
I pulled out my phone and opened up the email. It said the room number was 1033. I put my phone away and followed the door numbers. I stopped a few minutes later by the door I was supposed to come to. I made it, now to walk in.
 “Bonjour,” the teacher said.
“Crap, if she talks in French I'm screwed” I screamed in my head.
“Bonjour” I replied.
She told me to grab a chair and sit wherever I wanted. Thankfully in English. I grabbed one of the chairs and looked around, I could only see one available seat. It was the seat in the corner, you know, the awkward one nobody wants to go to. I sat down and around a minute later and the teacher began speaking.
She started talking in French, I had no idea what the heck she was saying so I didn't even pay attention. The teacher eventually started laughing.
“I'll talk in English today,” she announced.
I sighed a breath of relief and made myself comfortable. My teacher went on to talk about a few things here and there like the schedule and so on. This continued for a bit until the door opened. A girl walked in and introduced herself as a grade 12 student, she told us she would basically be our guide for the day. Hearing this I was surprised, the grade 12th student who would be our guide, was shorter than me. It seemed a bit off but I didn't think too much of it.
“Alright, follow me. I'm going to give you guys a tour” the girl said.
We all got up, followed her out and trailed her from behind as she showed us the school. It was pretty crazy, there were hundreds of classrooms, way too many bathrooms, and some pretty weird places. Like she literally took us to a room that was made to help students learn how to be hair styluses. There were dummies with hair everywhere and the room actually looked like a real salon.
There was also a room for medical science, it had fake machines, skeletons and overall lots of things. The tour eventually came to an end and she took us back to class.
The French teacher took over and talked for a bit before the bell rang. It was lunch time, finally. But it wasn't like I thought I would, as I exited the classroom, I saw an old man standing in front of me with a whistle.
“Hey, I'm going to be your lunch supervisor for the day,” he explained.
I rolled my eyes, we were finally in high school and we still couldn't be left alone? He lined us all up and took us outside. We went outside through the back exit and he basically showed us a few ways to get in and outta the school. Eventually, we made our way to the back field.
“To celebrate you guys coming here, we have burgers for all of you. Go line up and grab a bag, inside you will find everything you need” the old man said.
I freaked out as I heard him say that, for multiple reasons actually. A few days ago I found out we were supposed to be filling out a form for the burgers. I didn't fill out the form because being a muslim, I didnt know wether or not the burger would be halal. Now these guys were just handing it over to me?
I couldn't take it, besides, my mom told me she would be coming over with some food for me today so that I could eat with her. She wanted me to have a good lunch like all the other kids who got burgers. But now what was I supposed to do? Maybe I could take the burger and then ask if I could go eat with my mom?
“Hey, here's your burger. Enjoy!” a lady said, enthusiastically.
I gave the most legit smile I could and grabbed one of the bags. Nervous, worried and confused, I followed the other kids to a little hill. “Everyone, sit down and enjoy your burgers” the old man following us said. Everyone took a seat and opened up their bags. I sorta sat down but not really. I was just freaking out.
PING! I got a notification on my phone, I opened it up and sure enough it was my mom spamming me with messages telling me to meet her outside. Well, how the heck was I supposed to do that? I was stuck on a hill holding a possibly haram burger in my hands while my mom was spamming me with messages. I was screwed!
“Oh no” I heard a kid say, “It's raining!”.
