...Hi there. How’s your day been? Good, I hope. It’s been a while since someone has come and talked to me. What’s your name?
...Oh, that’s a nice name. How old are you?
...I see. No, don’t worry. You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to. I understand you don't really know anything about me. My name’s...my...name...I don’t remember my name. It’s been that long since I've needed to speak. I’ll tell you if I remember. So...What do you like to do for fun?
...Oh, that’s neat. I'll have to try that sometime. Me? I love listening to music but...I kind of can’t. Why? Because I can't listen to anything if no one is here with me.
...It’s complicated. Anyways, do you think you can play some music for me? Maybe something calm and relaxing? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
...It’s nice being able to talk to someone. To get to know them. To be friends with them. It’s lonely here all by myself. I don’t exactly get too many visitors and I can't really go out and hangout with people since I’m tra-...
...Can you tell me a story? Any story is fine.
...Really? What happened next?
...Wow, that's surprising. What did you do about it?
...No, you did not!
...Haha, I see. That doesn't surprise me. I would do the same.
...That’s cool. Thanks for the story, it was really nice.
...Want me to tell you one? Oh, alright. It's been a while though so I don't know if I remember everything. Ok, here goes.
...There once was a boy, a small boy- No.
...Once upon a long time ago, there- No.
...James was a lonely- No.
...Oh, I remember now!
...In a small town, there lived a young boy, His name was James. James was not the most sociable, and so he had no friends. At lunch he would sit all by himself, and during playtime he had no one to play with. Then one day, there came along a child. They had no friends since they just moved to the small town. They had no one to sit with at lunch and they had no one to play with during playtime. They saw James, eating alone, playing alone. So they decided to be his friend. At lunch they would eat together, and at playtime they would play together. It was good for the both of them. They had a friend they could be with. School would not be so lonely anymore.
...Or so they thought. It was a snowy night in december, a few days away from new years. James and his mother were driving back from the grocery store, when a blizzard caught them by surprise. They couldn't see where they were going, and they ended up crashing into another car.
...No one survived.
...Maybe this is not the most appropriate story to be telling.
...What, you want me to continue? Alright…
...James didn’t Show up to school, and they worried about him. James was very healthy so missing school was not common. Days rolled by and James still didn't come to school. So they decided to visit his home. Their mother drove them, and they knew where to go since James had invited them over once before. They soon arrived, and knocked on the door. A man answered, all raggedy and unshaven. They asked where James was and the man responded…
...“...He died.”
...They laughed. It was a terrible joke, but the man looked sad when he said it. So…
...They left. There was nothing for them to do there if James wasn't there. They waited at school for James to come, but he never did.
...They cried everyday
...They had trouble sleeping everyday,
...They ate alone everyday.
...They played alone everyday. But what could they do? They knew no one else. They wanted James to be their only friend. They liked James.
...They loved James.
...They would visit His grave whenever they could. They would sit there for hours, talking about how their day went, what they ate, what they read, and the occasional nonsensical thought. But at the end, every time, they cried. They cried and cried, asking why he left. Why he left them alone. They said They loved him.
...That it was selfish for them to die.
...No, that wasn’t true they would think. Things happen that are beyond the control of a child.
...Quite deep thoughts for someone so young. This went on for years, until their family decided to move again. And they did. They left the little town and they moved into the city. Years went by and they grew up. They got married, and they moved into a big house, and they had a child. A boy who they named James. They never forgot. They still remember the tree that was nearby that grew apples. They remember the grave with his name. They could not forget. Why? Because James was their first love. James was their first true friend. They kept James in their heart until they drew their last breath, and saw james waiting for them. They were happy with that. And they closed their eyes one last time, and smiled. Now they weren't lonely.
...I know. There are a lot of inconsistencies, but it's the best that I could remember it. So what did you think of it? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Actually, no don't tell me.
...I’m just so happy that I have someone to talk to. It’s just been way too long.
...So is there anything you want to talk about?
…
…
...Oh, I just remembered something! I wrote a poem that I want you to hear.
...A light, so delicate and pale
...Just within reach in this deep empty hell.
...The warmth reassures that I have nothing to lose
...And that this is nothing short of a muse.
...Fly, might i soon try,
...But impossible why lie?
...Sit, I look up at the sky.
...Why must it be so bright?
...A fake positivity that rings so true,
...I just might believe and try,
...Try and fly.
…
...What do you think? I know, it’s kind of dark, but I feel like it is something a lot of people can relate to. The fact that we can be so depressed yet the world around us is so bright and cheerful and that death could be-...you don’t really care, do you? Sorry…
…
...I...I don't know what else to talk about…
...It would be nice to hear your voice. It’s been too long since I’ve...Nevermind.
...Oh, you have to go??? Alright...Take care…
…
…
...Don’t leave me alone...
