Oranges

tardy

tardy

Oct 28, 2017

Alekto fumbles with the fruit that she hurriedly picked up in her flight, muffling a scream into her hand as she ran out the door of her house.

She was late to school. Again. For the third time this week. It was Wednesday.

Oh, well. It'd just be another tardy slip to put on her "Wall of Shameful Fame". It was an entire wall dedicated to tardy slips in her room, different excuses on each one.

All she really cared about were her academics, but Jesus Christ was she a procrastinator.

Going well above the speed limit, Alekto prayed that a cop wouldn't choose this day to actually watch for people breaking the speed limit. Thankfully, she ran into no complications as she squealed into the parking lot of her school.

The same cars parked in the same parking spots each day. Everything was always the same at her school.

Especially the part about her being late.

She shove the fruit into her mouth as she ran inside the school. After dumping everything out of her bookbag, she got out her needed supplies for AP Calc and ran to the classroom.

That certain teacher, Ms. Seine, was an extremely punctual person. Of course Alekto would be stuck with her as her first period teacher. The one she always missed a little bit of at the beginning.

The door was for some reason open, and she quietly tried to sneak in while Ms. Seine's back was turned. As soon as she stepped in the classroom, Ms. Seine spoke, "Your tardy slip is on the desk, Miss Alekto. Do pick it up."

With a sigh, Alekto turned around to face the front of the classroom. Her peers sniggered as she took the walk of shame to the front of the classroom and picked up the slip of paper demanding to know why she was late.

"I expect to see it on my desk by lunch," Ms. Seine said, turning back to the whiteboard to finish the equation she had been writing up there for the class to solve.

Her desk partner, Savannah, leaned over in her seat still laughing. "Caught again, huh Alek?"

Alekto felt the crimson cover her cheeks as she tucked the slip of paper into her folder. "As always."

She pulled a blank piece of notebook paper out of her binder, and set off to solve the equation. Ms. Seine hated her, but never could give her a failing grade. Her academics were fantastic, and she never slacked off in class. She just wasn't punctual.

Savannah rolled her eyes as she watched Alekto solve the equation, and went back to her own slip of paper.

After solving three equations, Alekto looked to the clock ticking away atop the whiteboard. She'd been in class for ten minutes, and missed three minutes of it.

It'd be a long day.
