They were none the wiser when it started. Hanta approached Shouto in the common room after noticing a familiar manga cover in his hands, and sparked a conversation. They bonded rather quickly after that.
They would meet in the evenings to talk about their favorite characters, and how they thought the current arcs were going to resolve. They would spend hours in each other's rooms.
It started small, just reading together, coexisting in comfortable silence. Hanta in his hammock, Shouto laying on his bed. Shouto sitting at his desk, Hanta stretched out on the floor, because it’s “comfier than it looks, ‘roki.” And it continued that way for a long while.
Until one night, in Sero’s room, Hanta got really mad at one of the characters. “They’re just so stupid!” he shouted sitting up from his place on the bed, while Shouto looked away from his volume in confusion. “Like I get that they can’t know everything from the beginning because there has to be plot but they’re still allowed to have common sense right?! Is it that difficult to just read between the lines, come on man!” and thought he was yelling, he was also smiling.
Hanta plopped back down onto the floor and layed the book on his face, sighing.
“The heroes in these manga really don’t know what they’re doing, it’s true.” Shouto responds, swinging his legs out of the hammock to join Hanta on the floor.
Hanta laughs, scooting over so that the other boy has room too, “They haven’t got a clue,” he says dejectedly. He’s startled when Shouto pulls the volume off of his face and he’s thrust into the light.
“What part are you at?”
Hanta leans over to point, “Just here…”
A few weeks later, they’re in Souto’s room watching the new anime adaptation of a manga they both knew and loved. They laid flipped over on Shouto’s bed for hours, gazes never leaving Hanta's laptop except to occasionally glance at the other to see their reaction to that particular scene.
But a while in, Shouto paused the show and interrupted, “laying like this is starting to get uncomfortable, do you want to move?”
“Oh thank god you said something,” Hanta sighed, i’ve been thinking the same thing for the last episode. But if we move we have to take the laptop with us.”
Shouto thinks about it for a minute. “Should we switch to laying on our backs?”
“I mean we could but, then one of us would have to lay on the other while the other holds it.”
“I don’t mind that”
“Well then I'm down, do you want to lay on me, or do you want me to lay on you?” Hanta asked.
“Um, i’d like to lay on you if that’s okay, you’re bigger”
“You calling me fat?” Hanta teased
“Yes.” Shouto deadpanned, and Hanta swung a pillow at him in retaliation.
“See, now you made me not want to cuddle with you,” he smiled
“Oh, well i’ll just go to Midoriya’s room then,” Shouto deadpanned.
Hanta feigned offense.
They proceeded to cuddle anyway
This came to be a sort of routine for them, they’d bicker while they cuddled and read manga and watched anime. They almost always stayed in Shouto’s room because it fit them both on the bed better, not that they ever took up more than one and a half persons worth of room anymore.
Since then, whenever they were alone they would be touching. Always. Hanta learned that Shouto always likes to be the little spoon. He asked about it once. He didn’t get an answer. He suspected that Shouto didn’t have the happiest childhood, and he wasn’t one to pry.
Hanta was sitting up criss cross on the bed, Shouto next to him resting his chin on his shoulder while Hanta scoured the internet for the next season of their anime. They had started on one anime site not realizing the full extent of the show wasn’t there.
“Did you try this one,” Shouto pointed to one of their bookmarked sites that he doesn’t remember trying.
“I don’t know-” Hanta stops to type the title before bursting into motion, “Hell yeah!! It’s there, I could kiss you right now, ‘Roki!”
“Could you, now?” Shouto says, deadpan as ever.
Hanta saw this as an opportunity, “Yep,” he stated, popping the ‘p’.
“You won’t” Shouto states, taking control of the laptop and clicking on the episode they left off on, but before he could get all the way there Hanta hand was on his jaw, and their lips were pressed together.
They stayed like that for a small moment before Hanta pulled away, “I just did.”
This became a normal occurrence for them as well. And soon they fell into this domestic balance. They were in Shouto’s room pretty much, every free moment they had. Studying, reading manga, watching the anime adaptations of said manga, napping even sometimes.
They had grown so comfortable with each other. They had fallen into a domestic cycle that works so well for them. They even train together sometimes, though not often. They had a sort of unspoken agreement to keep it behind closed doors, so as not to upset the balance. They had a routine now, and at this point they hardly ever sleep alone.
They had spent the night in Shouto’s room, when a knock came on the door fairly early in the morning. Hanta didn’t wake so Shouto answered the door, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, when he was met with a scowling bakugou.
Hey Icyhot! The fucking gas isn’t working, and my explosions aren’t steady enough to cook over, we need your damn flames so we can all eat breakfast. Not all of us are lazy asses like you that sleep forever,” Bakugou growled at him.
That’s when Shouto felt hands snake around his waist, and Hanta’s head tuck into his neck, “Shou… come back to bed…” he mumbles into his skin.
Bakugou stops for a second, seemingly genuinely surprised, before shouting, “Jesus fucking Christ,Idid not need to know that! Ugh, at least you both finally confessed your feelings for eachother, it was getting fucking annoying.”
At that point Hanta looked up from his place in the crook of Shoutos neck, his eyes widening in sync with Shouto’s.
“Get dressed and get downstairs!!” Bakugou stormed off.
Shouto turned around in Hanta’s arms looking at him questioningly. “You-” he hesitated, “Have feelings for me?” he asked. Because that was all that was in his mind.
Hanta just stood in silence for a long moment, before bursting into laughter. Letting go of Shouto’s waist. “I can’t-” he wheezed, “I can’t believe- We’ve been dating this whole time right?!”
“We have?” Shouto was beyond stunned, “I thought we were just really good friends….”
“I moved into your room!” Hanta was still laughing.
“I-” Shouto started, only to be interrupted by Hanta’s hand on his jaw, “It’s okay, Shou, we’ll take it as slow as you want, but i’d really like to be your boyfriend if that’s okay?”
Shouto just nodded, and leaned into Hanta, kissing him one last time before they had to get dressed and go down stairs, lest Bakugou blow up the kitchen.
