A tourist operator and his executive team arrive in a rarely visited and largely remote part of the world. And were eagerly looking to open it up to tourism. The concerned locals were largely polite but guarded since they said timidly they weren't used to visitors. As they were looking admiringly around the bustling town, they noted some quite interesting places. From traditional architecture to historic ruins from previous civilizations, all surrounded by breathtaking scenery.
They next went over the satellite imagery they had of the area. And wanted to travel to a city not far from here, that looked impressive but appeared to be abandoned. It was a large city situated on an island sized geode within an inland lake. When asked about it, the locals would persistently deny knowing anything about such a place. All the more when they were presented with satellite images of it. They would just look away, and no longer speak with them.
Bemused by their reaction, the tour operator and his team left the town and headed to the island anyway because it was the reason they were here. Along the way, they respectfully asked locals from a few villages about the Island, but instantly got the same reaction as they encountered in the town. They were able to hire a local man who had worked as a guide for decades, who agrees to show them around the area. But even he had steadfastly refused to visit the island. And candidly tells them to leave the area, and never come back.
