Snow fell lightly, covering the concrete in a layer of precious white. It was beautiful. Pure. Natural. Yet, it felt surreal in the city that never sleeps. Orange and red hues settled over the city as the stars came out to twinkle. Very surreal indeed.
Natasha stood on the sidewalk to watch the flakes of white dance around on the wind. She was hypnotized by it all. That was until the loud honking of cars finally broke her trance and assaulted her ear drums. Blinking quickly, she continued on her way. The wind blew about her honey blonde hair. After pushing it back for the third time Natasha thought it best to tie it up in a messy bun.
The cold was seeping through her peach knitted sweater and to her bones. Rubbing her arms repeatedly did little to help her situation.
However, a strange yellow glow from a store's window caught her attention. It seemed warm and inviting. Moving past a few people blocking the sight, Natasha found herself standing in front of a candy store. Beautiful chocolates sat in crystal displays. The light reflected of off the cases and danced on her plump form.
She bit her lip in indecisiveness. Her hand came up subconsciously to touch her bottom lip as the choices ran through her mind.
Option 1: step inside and buy some to later stuff yourself.
Option 2: walk away and get home to regret ever walking away.
Natasha walked in. The warmth was refreshing as was the glow of the lights. They weren't blinding or too dim to see like other places. It felt... Calming. Yes, calming. Her tense muscles relaxed and the smell of sweets washed away the bad smell of gasoline and cigar smoke that usually filled the city.
"Hello miss! What can I get you?" A young teenager bounced up to the counter with big brown eyes.
"Oh... I think I'll take some of these here."
"Coming right up."
Natasha smiled as she grabbed a bag and began to carefully put the chocolates in.
I should take the subway more often from now on.
