It was an average day on Earth, a simple day that was no different than the one before. A day where lives were not planned to change. The routines was thought to be the same. Daily activities were meant to go on as planned. No one was prepared for what had happened that day. There was nothing to warn what was going to come. A morning full of normalcy turned into a chaotic evening. The ending of an average day would be remembered for generations. That day was the start of destruction. One that no one would recover from.
The invasion appeared quickly, with no warning or time for preparations. A hostile attack that bypassed all the satellites, the waves from the ships was hidden from detection. There was nothing that could have stopped the end to what we knew. Earth was always seen as an ideal planet for survival, a planet that would make a good home for other life forms, but we were not prepared to give up our soil. If only we were given a prediction for that day, April 20th 2082. The day humanity lost everything they knew. Civilisation was in ruins across the globe. No sign of hope. We thought we were done for, completely. Many sought a way to leave the breaking planet before it was too late, unfortunately the Space Border Protections refused to let anyone take a ship up into space. For selfish reasons, I’m sure.
Two years of destruction, leaving humanity at the end. Devastation filled the air, there was no hope for survival. Darkness continued to grow above the hopes of the survivors, many wanted to give up. The laws set in place left them stranded, hoping to just perish in the hostile zones, instead of being protected.
Everything changed on April 12th 2084. The SBP announced what they thought was the solution to save the planet. They were not prepared for how special their creations were. Hybrids, as most were known to be. Androids with human DNA. Their advanced systems could rebuild their skin in a matter of seconds. Injuries were easily bypassed. These super beings disguised as humans were weapons. Their abilities were to counter the mass destruction, nothing more.
The first of their kind was a female android, she was spectacular. She could do amazing things. Being able to change her appearance for disguise. Her body could transform, capable of growing limbs or removing anything she deemed as unneeded in battle. She was equipped with a full arsenal, prepared for any danger that could step in her path. She was a product of the military, designed to end humanities suffering from the invasion. Essentially she was designed as a leader. A great leader she would be, except for something the SBP didn’t predict: She went rogue.
Her name was Verity.
No one knew where she was, despite each Hybrid equipped with a tracking device. They suspected she formed a way to get rid of hers. Her complex system was where they thought they went wrong in her seemingly flawless design. They missed calculated on many things with the Hybrids.
They were special.
The alliance wasn’t very keen on the Hybrids following the disappearance of Verity. They were kept safe, out of sight. The military brought on a new protocol. Sleep Mode. A mode for the Hybrids to hibernate, they were powered down but plugged into a main computer with surveillance. If one woke, the alliance would be alerted. They were unsure what the others were capable of, as Verity was able to change her code on her own. The fear for another rogue android was heavy.
Verity would come back one day, however. She came back stronger than ever. She guided the androids to power, risking herself in the process. She was a true leader. The alliance learned just what they had created, a force that would soon ruin everything.
She was a gift.
I had hoped to be her one day.
In time I learned I was like her, I was special. I was something no one predicted.
I was the war.
