I’ve seen a ton of stories, where the main character whines about being “unpopular.” Meanwhile, they’ve got a bff and sometimes a good group of friends. Yet they’re so sad because they aren’t a cool kid. Why can’t they be happy they have cool friends? I, thankfully, am not like them. I’m thankful that I have an awesome best friend, who has my back and I have theirs. I’m not popular, but I am at least acquaintances with some of the cool kids. I’m kind of average, now that I think of it.
You know what happens to supposedly “average girls” if you read a lot.
Anyways, my name is Emiko Frey. I’m around 5’4, and I have thick chestnut brown hair, which is pretty long and soft! I have green eyes and tend to wear a periwinkle shirt. My best friend is named Aiyana Knight, and she’s SUPER pretty! She’s blonde, tall, and has blue eyes. But deep down, and only I know this, she’s a HUGE nerd. Like, the kind to write fanfiction and stuff. It’s funny to hear her rant about her “otps” and whatnot. She’s funny.
It all started on October 2nd, a normal day of school in my sophomore year. I was at my locker, getting the things I needed for class.
“Emiko!” Aiyana called, and I waved at her. She walked over, an evil grin on her face. “Sooo,” she smiled, “when are you going to get a BOYFRIEND?” My face went red, and I turned my attention back to my locker.
“It’s...not like I need one,” I muttered, which was true. Sure, it’d be cool to have a boyfriend, but I want to be able to focus on other things, like my favorite TV shows and school.
“How am I supposed to make fun of you??” She whined, and I chuckled a bit.
“She’s never going to get a boyfriend because she’s too stupid.”
I whirled around and faced Kai Newmone, a boy with black hair, brown eyes, and a red hoodie. He towered above me at 5’7, but he was still considered short by a lot of the boys in our grade, who were 6’0. “My day suddenly took a turn for the worst,” I sighed, and turned back to my locker and focused on getting the things I need. Kai Newmone was my enemy. I don’t remember how it started, but I remember in 5th grade, we started a rivalry with each other. I glanced back at my friend, Aiyana, who was holding back a smile.
“You guys would be a cute couple,” she whispered, and both mine and Kai’s eyes widened in shock. “NO!” We both shouted at once, which only embarrassed us further.
“I absolutely loathe him!” I argued.
“She’s a bitch!” He countered, and I threw him a glare.
“Holy shit guys, I was only joking,” she muttered. I sighed. Kai and I hated each other, and Aiyana knew this. And guess what?! To make matters worse….our lockers were right next to each other!
