UZUMAKI Naruto is a 2nd year high school student at Konoha Gakuen, he is an energetic, funny boy who amuses all his friends with his jokes and easy-going demeanor. Naruto doesn't care much for studying or for his grades; he is the last of his class but doesn't care about it.

One day, in April, as the new school year had started, he was called to the teachers' room by UMINO Iruka, his homeroom teacher.

"Uzumaki, you know why I called you right?"

The boy lowered his head. "Yeah..." he mumbled.

"It cannot go on like that, young man! At this rate you will spend the rest of your life in this high school!" Iruka-sensei said with an angry voice. "You barely made it to 2nd year!"

"What do you want me to do, sensei? I suck at school and can't do anything about it!" Naruto retorted.

"Liar! You could be a much better student if you really tried, you just don't want to change that ridiculous attitude of yours!"

"And I ask again: what do you want me to do? I can't study at home since there is no one to help me and I..."

"That's why, this year, I've asked someone to help you study here at school after classes." Iruka interrupted.

"Who...?"

Suddenly, a familiar masculine voice came from behind Naruto:

"You wanted to see me Umino-sensei?"

"Ah yes, you're just in time! Uzumaki, meet your tutor."

Naruto turned around. A handsome boy with black hair was right in front of him.

"Uchiha?!" he said dumbfounded, pointing at the boy. "You mean UCHIHA Sasuke is going to be my teacher?! It's a joke right?!"

"Not at all! Uchiha is the top ranked student of your class and one of the best in the entire school, you could not dream of a better tutor to help you!" Iruka assured in an exasperated voice.

"Humph!" exclaimed Naruto.

"I'm not happier about it than you Uzumaki, believe me!" Uchiha Sasuke clarified, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Then can't you exchange with someone else? Like Shikamaru for example, he is as intelligent as him!" Naruto asked.

"Probably, but I wouldn't trust you two to study seriously!" Iruka replied. "I personally picked Uchiha and won't change my mind, so deal with it!"

Naruto and Sasuke glared at each other without a word.

Iruka sighed. "Your first lesson will be tomorrow after classes in the empty classroom in the B section. Now out of here both of you!"

The boys left the teachers' room and went in opposite directions.
