Hi I’m Tim, not my real name, I live in a town called Dumatras, and I would like to share my brief experience about the strange meat I found in the middle of a forest, let's get started.
It was afternoon when I went to a nearby forest to gather dried wood that we would use for cooking. Together with my bolo, I carry an empty white sack with me. Upon reaching the destination I immediately started gathering dried wood scattered around. In just five minutes of doing it, the sack I brought was nearly half-gone when I suddenly noticed something in the roots of the towering mango tree near me, curious I decided to put my sack on the ground and walk towards it to check.
Upon checking the thing was a piece of meat but I’m not sure what type of meat I found. To my estimation, it seems to be a kilo of weight chopped from the limb of an animal. It has a unique appearance similar to beef but is slightly less red, with a somewhat pale yellow hue fat, and has a sticky substance that looks like saliva from a wild animal and the smell is no different from other meat. Using my bolo I pierced it, and to my surprise, it was slightly tender as if it had already been cooked. After that, I went to cut a banana leaf two four steps away from where I was and used it to wrap the meat. I purposely did that to know what kind of meat it was. After I wrapped the meat, I continued collecting dried wood. After the sack was filled, I decided to go home immediately.
After all, I have no plans to eat that meat. Why would anyone eat that kind of meat picked in the middle of the forest? It could probably have been poisoned or it might have rabies due to the meat having a saliva-like liquid in it and I don't even like meat, plus I’m a vegetarian.
As I reached home, I first kept the sack filled with dried wood in our kitchen, then I made myself a cup of coffee, and shortly after I removed the wrap in the meat and put it in an orange oval-shaped plastic ware. I picked up the sturdy wooden chopping board and selected a sharp knife to prepare the meat. With careful precision, I sliced the meat in half. I stored one portion in a plastic container, while the other half was meticulously prepared for a barbecue.
It didn’t take me some time as the meat became tender in just four minutes, the barbecue gives an aroma similar to that of a beef. As I carefully slice through the meat, its internal part undergoes a noticeable transformation, acquiring a grayish hue resembling lamb or veal.
When my dog Lyka suddenly approached me, I took a small piece of the barbecue and threw it to her but she ignored it. My dog Lyka is not picky about what to eat, whether it's just rice and water she will eat it. This was the first time I saw my dog refuse to eat the food I gave. After that, I decided to wait for our neighbors to come home from work, especially my best friend Mark, just in case they knew what meat I found.
After two hours, Mark got home, and I told him what I had discovered.
“Hey, Mark are you busy?”
“No”
“Can you come over, I have something to show you”
“Sure, I will just change my clothes”
“Ok, I will wait.”
After a few minutes, Mark came over to our house.
“What exactly do you want to show me?” he asked.
“Wait for me here and I'll get it from the kitchen,” I said gesturing for him to sit in a wooden chair in the living room, then I went towards the kitchen.
“Ok”
In the rounded table, I retrieve the two plastic containers, one holding half of the raw meat and the other holding the remaining piece of barbecue, and proceed back to the living room.
When I entered the living room, Mark suddenly glanced at what I was holding and said “What’s that a new recipe?”, then he smiled.
“No, let me show it to you,” I said before I put the two plastic containers on the wooden table and opened them one by one before handing them to him.
Mark’s brow suddenly furrowed and said “What is this?”
“That's what I was going to ask you actually”
Mark suddenly stared at me before saying, “I think it is human meat”
“What?” My voice suddenly raised in shock.
“You’re kidding right?”
“No, I'm serious,” his voice is dead serious.
I who still didn’t believe what he said asked “How did you know human flesh looks like this?”
“This is how Uncle Tom describes what he saw during 70’s”
“If you want we can come to Uncle Tom’s house and let us show him this meat so he can confirm what I’m saying”.
I didn't say a word for a few seconds until “Let’s go, I also want to hear his story”
Mark suddenly looked at his watch and said “Ok, we are going to walk for an hour just to get there”
Mark's uncle lives near the foot of the mountain so we were forced to walk to get there but luckily it only took us forty-five minutes to get there maybe because of our walking speed. The house is one story, painted with varnish, and was made from wood, cement, and hollow blocks. Mark knocks on the door twice before someone opens the door, it is a mid-fifties man who greets us smiling “Hello Mark, you came to visit” he said.
“I’m with my friend Tim, there is something we want to ask, that only your uncle can tell”
“I knew it already, come on in”
The two of us went inside and went to sit in the wooden chair with Mister Tom.
“Is this about Aswang?” Mister's face suddenly turned serious as he asked.
“I think, Tim has something to show you, uncle”
I pick up the plastic on the floor containing the two plastic wares containing the meat. I opened them before putting them on the table for Mister Tom to see. Mister Tom glanced at the meat and said “This is human flesh, where did you get this?”
Mark and I exchanged glances before I said “I found it in the middle of the forest just today when I gathered some dried wood for cooking”
“I also tried to cook the meat and feed it to my dog but she does not like it” I added.
“I see, do you see that liquid thing in the meat that is not saliva from wild animals, it came from Aswang”
“How are you sure that it is human flesh?” I asked.
“That's from my victim, last night ”
