In our culture, living people burn joss paper for the deceased, so they have money to spend in the underworld. Joss paper is inexpensive in the living world, where a few dollars can buy a thick stack. However, in the underworld, joss paper is the only universal currency.
I am still alive, but I burned ten billion joss dollars for myself.
In the winter of 2023, without warning, a terrifying apocalypse suddenly arrived, breaking the barrier between the underworld and the living world. Vengeful spirits roamed, and the living had to retreat.
Everyone lived in constant fear of impending death, in a state of anxiety and unease. The only thing that could save lives was joss paper—the underworld money.
Joss paper can buy lives from fierce ghosts, or even purchase fierce ghosts as servants and slaves. In this horrifying apocalypse, joss paper was the key to survival.
In a past life, I was lucky to obtain some joss paper and used it to purchase a ghost shield for protection. However, I was stupid to spend most of my joss paper, buying the lives of my best friend Wendy and boyfriend Malachi from the fierce ghosts.
But what did I get in return?
When another fierce ghost attacked, Malachi, in self-preservation, pushed me away. Injured and with little joss paper remaining, I had to spend it all to save my own life and lost the protection of the ghost shield.
When I returned home, I was met with a tranquilizer gun and iron chains! Yes, in this horrifying apocalypse, even human limbs could be traded for joss paper. A leg was worth ten joss dollars, an arm eight, and each finger or toe was worth one joss dollar.
My best friend and boyfriend tied me up and I realized that, at some point, they had an affair, and conspired against me.
I watched in horror as I was slowly dismembered while still alive. This couldn't even be called dismemberment, because I endured it all while still alive. It was only when my most valuable asset, my head, was sold for fifty joss dollars that I finally died, ending the torment of being dissected while alive.
Perhaps even the heavens couldn't bear to see me die so horribly and grant me a chance at rebirth. I was transported back to a month before the onset of the horrifying apocalypse.
After rebirth, the scenes of being tormented by those two jerks still echoed in my mind. I suppressed my overwhelming hatred, because time was running out, and I couldn't afford to waste any. As dawn broke, I immediately set about preparing for the impending doomsday.
The most crucial task was to amass joss paper because, in the horrifying apocalypse, joss paper meant everything.
But to accumulate joss paper, I need money. Fixed assets like real estates have to be sold immediately. When the terror arrives, property prices will plummet, except for those in the safety zone, which skyrocketed.
As for places outside the safety zone, they were still livable as long as you weren't afraid of death.
