Rise of the Heroes: Tales of the Jisuit

A summer's delicacy

A summer's delicacy

Mar 01, 2022

"Greg, what do you do in your pastime?"
That was the question that reached Greg's ears. Looking around who asked, he spots a familiar face behind him, that being the princess.
It has only been a couple of days since they started travelling together, but he managed to engrave everyone's faces into his mind. Although to be fair, they stand out so much it is hard not to get familiar with them.

"My pastime? Why do you ask Luna?"

"No reason." She puts up a smile. "It's a nice conversation topic. Starting conversations is tricky, so having a topic or two to talk about makes it easier for me."

Greg raises an eyebrow. "But just now you started a conversation with me, no problem at all." Upon which the princess scratches the back of her head.
That question set the swordsman thinking though. He had a few pastime hobbies, but there was only one that was his true passion. The one hobby that he had the drive for to pursue the skill.

"How old are you Luna? Care to visit the bar?" Greg asks the girl. She answers that she is currently is an adult by official age standards.
"Very well then! Let's go!" Greg promptly drags off Luna to the nearest bar.
Inside, the bar seems to have aged a lot since it has opened many years ago, but it was by no means run down.

The swordsman and the princess take a seat. Greg orders beers for the two of them. Luna has a puzzled look on her face.
"Uhm... I don't really understand. Is drinking your one drive?" Said a worried Luna picturing Greg as a drunkard, which he laughs off.

"Well I can't deny that a nice pint on a hot summer day is a sensation of its own." The swordsman takes a sip. "But my passion is a little different."

He places the can down.
"Luna, do you know how beer is made?" Greg asks her. The princess has barely drank alcohol in her life, much less brewed it. She shakes no vividly.

"It's quite a interesting process really." He explains. "You start with little grains. A single grain doesn't seem to offer much, but if you mash, boil and ferment them they bond together to evolve in what is arguably the best drink for a special occassion."
Luna looks up surprised. "You brew beer? I didn't know that."

"Hehe." Greg looks oddly content. "It is my pride and joy. I even built a small installation back home to help me ferment it." Luna nods in curiosity. She suddenly remembered something.

"Hey, I just remembered!" She exclaims. "A few years ago there was this big festival in Saintwater and a brewery stand selling beers. Was that you?"

Greg nods, looking smug. "I just moved to Saintwater back then. It was a surprise so many people flocked to my stand. Ever since then, I decided to stay there." The swordsman smiles.

Luna looks away for a second, chuckling. Greg wonders what is up.
"Oh, sorry." She apologizes. "It's just that I remember, my dad visited that stand to get one of the beers."
The king? Greg was eager to hear what he said about his brew. He opens his mouth to ask.
"Oh? What did he say about it?"

"Uhm..." The princess hesitates before answering, "he did drink it. But... afterwards he went on to say that wine was the superior drink."

Greg's eyes widen and steam comically ejects from his nose.
"He what?!" That oaf! Greg would teach him a lesson when he got back to Saintwater. The swordsman stomps out of the bar, forgetting to pay.
"Uhh... oh right!" Luna quickly pays and thanks the bartender, before hollering after the now angry Greg in the summer sun. It would take the afternoon to calm him down.
