“My second day and I already hate this position. Taylor Raven, the daughter and heir to the one of the most respected small gangs in the area, a bar waitress.” My mind races with frustration.
After all, this is not what I had in mind when father asked me to return home to learn the family business.
The doorbell rings constantly, I don’t even know why we have one. This is a bar. Not a grocery store.
I turn to see who the next low life is that I will be dealing with this evening. To my surprise three well dressed men stand in front of the door. I watch as their eyes scan the room.
The tallest gentleman gestures his companions towards a shady table in the corner. They walk past me, and I catch a subtle aromatic scent. It’s a warm smell, with a hint of lavender and mahogany. These men are not like the others that have came into the bar since my first day here.
They take a seat in the corner, all three of them look around the bar as if they were looking for a waitress.
That’s my cue! As I begin to approach their table I can hear their conversation quite audibly. Of course, not much of what they are saying makes any since to me.
“Dan, we need to figure out a plan to deal with the birds. They will not stay off the grass!”
Maybe these guys run a sports complex? They are pretty well dressed, and why else would they be concerned if the birds are on the grass?
I hate to interrupt, but it is my job to make sure that they are taken care of.
“Excuse me?” I say in a peppy tone.
The two men on the back side of the table look at me. The man on the right seems to be very tall with long black hair that falls over the sides of his face like dripping ink. His dark eyes almost piercing into my soul, causing me to swallow a huge gulp of air.
The gentleman on the left seemed much younger than the other. He had very kind, deep blue eyes. His tousled blonde hair sticking up in all directions.
I better say something quick, these guys don’t look like the kind to be kept waiting.
“I don’t mean to interrupt, but I was just wondering if there was anything that I could get for you gentlemen.”
My heart is pounding, so hard that I can almost feel it hitting my sternum. The man on the right sends a chilling half smile my way, causing my heart to almost stop. "I'll take a bourbon, on the rocks." He then turns to the other gentleman who responds with, "I'll have the same."
I jot down their orders in my notepad. "Alright, alright and what about for you sir?" I look over at the man who has his back to me.
He grunts a bit clearing his throat as he begins to turn to speak to me.
"I'll have..." he stops mid-sentence as our eyes meet.
I watch as his eyes scroll up and down me, as if he were reading and then re-reading the same page.
Wow, his eyes are pretty mesmerizing. A deep purple, I don't think I've ever seen eyes that color before. His hair a deep red. Not an orangey red, just a really deep, deep red. Like the color of the darkest rose.
I stand there still a bit dazed, but I take a deep breath and wait for his response.
"I'll have...a" he continues to struggle with his words.
"I'll just have whatever they're having." he exhales and quickly turns away from me.
I notice his companions giving him a very puzzled look.
"Okay, well, I will have that right out for you." I nod with smile and then turn away, walking slowly back to the liquor cabinet.
Opening the cabinet I take one quick glance back at the table. The men are chatting once again and all I can do is wonder what they are talking about.
