The moon hung over the large campus. Showcasing each of the buildings unique designs and allowing the several personal glass-stained windows to glistening along with its light. The waves of the ocean crashed several yards below the cliffs that hung off of the property. Safely closed off with a thick wall to keep the boys from daring one another to jump off from the dangerous height into the rocky water below.
It was way past curfew for the student body. However, Daric was given special permission to stay after in the main library. The old redwood chair cracked roughly as Daric threw his back into the backrest and let his arms dangle for a moment. With a quick head roll, he pushed himself up straight and closed the book in front of him. Allowing his elbows to rest on the red tinted glass table in front of him. Slowly he brushed a few strands of blond hair that tangled themselves in front of his eyes. The sweat from his forehead smeared on the back of his hand as he whipped the hairs away.
Lifting himself off the chair his legs pushed against the chair causing it to slide backward. The floor of the library happen to be made up of various colored stones; all flattened perfectly to create a very interesting shine, almost like the floor was full of gems. As the chair went back it clipped lightly against the small gray grout that held each stone in place, similar to space between several puzzle pieces.
Daric grabbed the thick leather book off the table and pushed the chair in neatly. Reaching into his back pants pocket he pulled out a white key. With quick steps he made his way through the bookshelves, heading toward the darker corners of the library, the book shelves so large the ceiling lights could barely lighten the space between each bookcase.
Standing in front of the unmarked books in the very back of the library, Daric seemed absorbed in the old musty smell the books held within their thin pages. Each book hand made, with unique colored leather covers each hand sewn on. Most of the bindings had no titles to help understand the contents of that each book held. Daric stood in front of these unmarked books. Holding the one he was carrying to his side in his left hand. Using his right hand he pushed some room on the bookshelf for the one which he was carrying to fit. As he lifted it into position he pauses, cautious. A sound of fast passed stomping caught his attention. The sound echoed through the silent library.
Normally the library was sound proof, even with hundreds of students walking through the halls and the battle simulation rooms above and below didn't pierce the thick exterior of the room. The teen's fingers loosened as the book fell from his hands. The book landed with its pages open facing towards the floor. His fingers pulsated as he listened closely and then. As if the first large gust of the wind from a coming storm had blown in through an open window the room became very cold, the air circulating quickly.
A sharp breath escaped his mouth as Daric made his way back toward the opening of chairs and tables in the center of the large library. He quickly turned towards the double doors. Using his body he thrust himself into the doors causing it to open in one large swing. The door continued on even after he had made his way out of its range and down the hall. He could hear the double doors smash together even after running down two flights of stairs.
“I'm sorry!” Daric let out a scream as he continued his run through the dark, quiet halls of the second floor. He found himself on a balcony, overlooking the final floor. This large building held all of the arts and advanced school activities. Being the oldest, and most elegant building. With white thick pillars and thick stainless glass acting as the walls between the second and first floor. He made his way down the double stairs that extended from each side of the second floor and met in the middle to create one a large staircase. The black and red mixed tiles shined even in the darkness of the building.
As he made it to the center of the two stairways there was a loud bang that shook the room. Grabbing his head with both hands he slowly hunched over, his fingers and eyebrows twitching as a cold sweat trickled down his neck. All he could hear was the chime of the large crystal chandelier hat hung right above him.
Standing very still for a moment his breath pounding with the pace of his quickening heart. He slowly lowered his arms and straightened his back. Moving his head slowly to each slide. “Hello?” Taking a deep breath he calmed himself some more, ready to speak reason. “L-listen... I-I'm sorry I know I should have-”
In the midst of his sentence, Daric felt himself being pulled forward. He quickly closed his mouth as his body was flung across the room and stopped mid-air, hovering in the center of the main entrance. His neck was bent backward, his arms and legs dangled, however, it appears as if he was trying to move them with little effort.
“Please... Don't kill me. I'll tell them I'll-”
Daric's body begins to shiver. The blood through his body seems to be freezing and his breath came to a quick halt. His eyes moved rapidly around, but in the darkness of the room, he couldn't see anyone in control of the hold he was under.
A burning sensation overcame him as he felt his skin go from freezing numb to burning. First, his fingers and toes began to blacken. He was only able to let out a quickening scream of pain as his body imploded on itself. Covering the beautiful entry way with various colors of gray, black and crimson.
