"Where am I; what's going on!" I asked.
"Who's there?" I heard a familiar voice say.
Suddenly I felt a calming sensation go through me, and I loosened up my body.
"There now calm down. Especially you, Nathan, this might be a new setting for you, but make sure you behave," I heard something say.
"How do you know my name?" I asked.
A few minutes later, something hugged me and picked me up.
"I think this is the one," I heard something say.
"The kid with the rowdy past? You sure you can..."
Whoever he was talking to stopped as he said: "I'm sure; besides, I see potential in a child like him."
"I have a bad feeling about this," I said.
"Don't worry, your kind is safe with us," he replied.
"Well, I'll lay you here for a bit and let you get used to the surroundings," he told me.
"How can I if I can't see!" I replied. But I only heard the door close to the room. Suddenly my eyes were able to open, and I saw the place I was in.
"My room is so well made, and he practically knew what I like, but how?" I thought to myself. Then the mass molded into a suit of clothing, but I felt as if I should stay where I was. "At least I'm warm in this. Why is the mattress on the floor?" I thought to myself.
"Come to me," I heard something say. I went up to the door and slowly opened it to find a decent-sized living space, but no one around. Then I realized where the source was from, a smart speaker of all things.
"How did they get this, and for it to work too," I thought. I started to look around the room a bit. There were numerous windows to a view of the outside world, which seemed otherwise untouched. I soon noticed something on the table near the couch with a note that read: "for you, I hope this gives you some sense of when and where you are."
I was beginning to question things. 'Was this even real' kept playing through my mind. Suddenly I heard footsteps from a neighboring room, deep sounding ones. When I saw what it was, I wasn't sure if I should hide or not. I slowly backed onto the couch and laid low. Only to realize whatever brought me here had 2 of the odd yet familiar creatures. The 2nd one got on top of me after I turned onto my back.
I didn't bother even to try fighting it off. I didn't want whatever had these two around to get mad at me. As the thing crept down onto my body, I slowly reached out my hand to it. It directed my hands to its back before laying down on me. It's warm body quickly soothed me, and I soon decided to take a quick nap with it on top of me.
After an hour or 2, I heard something say: "Nathan, I'm back," in a familiar tone.
"Finally, I can see what brought me here," I said as I opened my eyes. I tried to move, but the creature was still on me.
"I see you've gotten acquainted with my two buddies," a figure with a wood-like head and neon green eyes said to me.
"Yeah and one of them is holding me down, can you call it off?" I asked him.
"He'll get down on his own," he replied.
He did anything but, he instead picked me up and dragged me into an odd membrane-covered room.
"I think he's taking you to his queen. I'd keep your mouth open if anything latches onto your face," he said before closing the door.
I couldn't see anything in that room. Once it stopped, it let me go and directed me along with him. Then I saw a somewhat dim glow.
"What's that glow?" I asked. After I got close, I could make out a face and maybe an arm.
I began to cower in fear as it picked me up off of the floor.
"Calm down," I heard as I slowed my cowering. It began to cradle me, and I soon warmed up to its presence. "Your safe with me, my child. The commander choosing you, for his kind at least, is a big deal," she said.
"I can imagine, I'll make sure not to ruin it," I replied as I fell into a slight trance.
"Head back to your friend I'm sure he's got something for you to do," she said. I somehow knew the way back to the living room without even seeing the layout.
"Nathan, you forgot something," he said as he pointed to the LEM T on the table.
"If your two friends didn't interrupt me, I probably would of put it on and set it up," I replied as I put it on.
"You probably need something to eat, don't you?" he asked.
"Yeah, I do," I replied. He handed me a plate with what I'd eaten yesterday, which was ham and slices of unusual fruit. I sat down on the couch and ate up. "Whatever this fruit is, it's delicious," I told him.
After I got done, I was on my bed, getting my watch set up. Suddenly a giant snake came slithering in. As it came closer, I backed up into a corner of the room. "Umm, who let this snake in?" I shouted. It soon was on top of me, and I began to whimper in fear as it coiled around my body. I soon squirmed before it bared its fangs, and I quickly stopped. "Just be gentle," I said to it. It tightened a bit before it rubbed its head against mine.
I took a sigh of relief as I laid down to slow my breathing. "That's twice today I've been frightened this hard," I said,
"and that's something we need to fix," I heard him say as he walked into the room.
"Well my past has always made me wary, can you get this snake off from around me?" I asked him.
"I think you'll find that's more than just a snake," he replied.
He was right about that; the snake was indeed something intelligent. Because what was once a noodle-like reptile that was nose to nose with me, was now a humanoid reptile with its arms around me and its tail wrapped around my legs.
"You're a skittish one from what I understand, aren't you. Don't worry. I know just how to get someone to not flinch from even a dragon's roar," she said.
"Considering I get startled by a toaster, you've got your work cut out for you," I replied.
As if this didn't get any more unsettling in one day; he had most of my stuff from my home here with him, some stuff was even upgraded, and somehow I had Internet despite being God knows where.
"If I'm here, who else is?" I asked him.
"A lot of your kind, but we came with peaceful intentions," he replied.
"If so, then where's my family? The ones that cared for me before all of this." I said to him.
"In time you'll see them again, they're on this ship," he replied.
I never questioned how we were on a ship. I was just glad to get some rest after getting some of my room done. Two hours into me being in bed, however, I felt something crawling on me, probably multiple even. I open my eyes to maybe 12 snakes on top of me, one of which was over my mouth.
"Let's start easy. You seemed to of feared me when we first met. Let's see if you can get used to 13 of us," I heard a familiar voice say before I felt more weight being added. All I could do was keep my composure and warm up to them, which was actually pretty easy.
"Nathan, how'd you like the sudden visit?" He asked me.
"I was nervous at first, but last night they kept me calm, and I can't believe how well I slept," I replied.
"What she does is working, it seems. It's good to see you so easy going," he replied back.
I slowly got out from under the snakes as I asked him: "what's for breakfast?"
"I'll be having you at her place for a while. I, at the very least, don't want you getting scared by appliances," he replied.
He had me go with her to her place, but I never expected there to be so many different creatures living together along the way. Along with about half of them had a person, usually a child, who was as calm as can be either in their arms, walking alongside them, or riding on some sort of creature.
"Ok, we're here," she said to me as I looked around her home. Her home was carpeted on most of the floor, with one room having a sandpit in it. "You'll sleep in here," she said before she closed the door to the room behind me and locked the door behind me.
"Hey! I think you locked the door on me!" I shouted, but no response. I laid down into the sand, desperately waiting for her to come back with a meal, at least. Suddenly, I saw something poke its head from under the sand. "Let me guess you're her child?" I asked it.
He transformed into a human covered from the chin down in the same mass I was in and said: "I'm the one she chose. Did she end up choosing two?" He asked.
"I got chosen by the commander of this ship. Apparently, she can train me not to get scared by appliances," I replied.
"Just get under the sand, and it'll be that easy," he replied back.
I got under the sand, and then I suddenly fell into a trance. "Yeah, just that easy," I said before I zoned out. I heard multiple things that would have startled me instantly. Now I didn't even care. "This is nice, I feel so much at ease," I said.
"It's working. You're calming down," He replied.
