Thunder boomed overhead, and the first droplets hit the concrete paved ground of the courtyard. My eyes blurred with tears as a similar figure obscured my view. Izuku Midoriya. The sleeves of his hero suit were torn. Izuku’s hero mask is dirty. The yellow silk scarf I gave Izuku was torn as well. Izuku’s arms were scarred, and it wasn’t from fights. It was self-inflicted. I was the only one who knew, besides his mum.
His forest green curls, normally combed and styled well, were now matted, dirty and overgrown past his shoulders. Izuku stood in front of me. His face was covered in mud and grime. His undereyes once pale like his skin, had the darkest eyebags I had ever seen.
The crowd behind the yellow curfew barriers were protesting to kick him off campus, and were considering him as a villain. Kirishima handed me the headset and my voice amplified as I spoke. He was my boyfriend. Izuku. I had to forgive him. And I did.
It only took one sorry from my mouth and Izuku ran into my arms and sank in front of me sobbing. I sank down with him and hugged him, not caring about my uniform getting dirty. I rubbed away his tears, the dirt rubbing onto my fingers.
I asked Kirishima to get him water and a meal. Uraka must’ve realised that Izuku was back and she ran to me with a medical kit and I pulled up his sleeves further, revealing the matted gauze. I sighed and took him up into a private tent away from the public eye. He sunk on the cot and looked away while I cleaned his scars.
It’s nothing to be ashamed of Izuku. You did it, and you’re still alive y’know?
Instead of saying something, he hugged me again and muttered about how lucky he was to have me as his boyfriend. I smiled. The rest of the school were trying to break off the protests about Izuku returning back to school after his villain arc, but what mattered was he was here. He was alive.
After a quick scar cleanse, we both headed into the campus and into the common room. He took off his boots and I sent them to be cleaned. Kirishima came back with my pre-made Katsudon and a bottle of water. The type Izuku loved to eat when I made it. He disappeared and reappeared with a plate of grilled fish, miso soup and strawberry filled mochi. It took only half an hour for him to wolf down his meal before he was given a towel and some soap and Katsuki took Izuku to the shower.
Izuku had only just stepped out of the shower in his new clothes, a forest green cashmere sweater, a plain white t-shirt and warm black sweatpants when his mom vaulted through the bathroom in tears and crashed into him. Izuku had started crying again and he fell to his knees and hugged her back. After a reconciliation, Katsuki walked Izuku to his dusty room that had been untouched for three months with its bright, tacky All Might posters and figures, tugging his curtains shut.
Get some rest Izuku. Gotta clear the shitheads out of the courtyard at the front. See you tomorrow. He said, turning around, opening Izuku’s door. Izuku tugged him back and kissed him, for the first time in months and Katsuki melted into it cupping Izuku’s face pushing against the wall of his bedroom.
They broke apart and Katsuki smiled, waving back at him as he left the room. On the way Katsuki geared back up into his suit without his armlets, but keeping his grenade belt.
Kirishima handed him the amplifying headset.
Okay shitheads! Move! The protest is over! Midoriya is safe and we can’t have any more casualties tonight!
The crowd continued to protest. Katsuki pushed back a guy who was trying to force his way to the gate. He got punched in the face in return. Katsuki scowled, and Kirishima noticed Denki falling after him.
OI SHITHEAD? DID YOU REALLY JUST FUCKING PUNCH A PRO-HERO IN HIS LAST YEAR? Bellowed Kirishima shoving the guy back, slamming his fist into the jaw. The guy did a double take and scrambled back as Kirishima scowled. The crowd must’ve seen them and they evaporated, running. Katsuki walked to the medical tent, where he got his cheek patched up.
Just as they entered the dorms again, it started to pour heavily. The girls were already dressed in their pajamas muttering about tonight. Katsuki grabbed his towel from his room and trudged to the boys showers and into a cubicle flicking on the tap, and warm water gushed over his body and he lathered up. He washed off, hung his towel and walked down into the common room rummaging through the main fridge for a meal and warming it up. The fight had lasted so long that they missed dinner, and he felt as if his stomach was gnawing through his entire body. After an hour of talking a lot, Katsuki told the rest that he was heading to bed.
Well that was until Izuku started blowing up his phone.
Izu 💚: Kacchan…
Kats🧡: What’s up?
Izu 💚: I get nightmares y’know..
Izu 💚: Everyday since I was on the turf, I’ve had nightmares of you dying over and over again.
That was all he needed to hear to make his way across to the boys dorms, and when he did he was soaked through because of the rain. He shook his hair and took the elevator to the fifth floor. He walked down the dark hallway and knocked on Izuku’s door. The door opened and Izuku pulled him into the room, sobbing. It seemed like he had one earlier tonight and Katsuki cursed under his breath and brought Izuku’s hand to his chest just on his heart.
I’m alive Izuku.
The cries grew louder and Katsuki muttered a prayer to Christ and pulled Izuku into his arms, dragging him to the bed and tucking him in. Then he laid with him and pulled the blanket over his chest. Izuku didn’t stop crying for the next hour and Katsuki could only reassure him by rubbing away the tears and ruffling his curls.
It’s okay Izuku. It’s okay.
Thunder grew louder outside and the final message on the intercom rang, about curfew officially starting and everyone should be in their rooms by now. Oh well, fuck that I was going to be with Izuku tonight.
Katsuki did fall asleep later, but ended up being smacked hard in the early morning of Saturday by Izuku who was having another nightmare. He grabbed Izuku's hand and placed it on his chest and Izuku's eyes open.
I told you I'm alive.
Izuku kept his hand on Katsuki's heart for the rest of the night and he fell asleep without any nightmares. Katsuki sighed before returning into a deep slumber.
