Episode 1: The Flash That Split the Shadows

The city never really slept.

Even at 2:17 AM, Metro City pulsed with sirens, neon signs, and low, vibrating music leaking from underground clubs. On the rooftop of a five-story building in the Old Market District, Kai Ren adjusted his cracked phone camera, crouched low near the rusted railing.

He took another shot of the alley below. The shadows twisted unnaturally under the orange glow of the streetlamp. Kai squinted. No wind. No movement. But the shadows… swirled?

He adjusted the settings on his phone, then hit the flash.

A pulse of white light burst—and the world shattered.

The shadows reared up like living smoke, forming jagged claws and spiraling tendrils. Kai staggered backward, dropping his phone. The shadow coiled around his legs, cold as ice, and yanked him down through the rooftop.

Straight through the floor.

Kai slammed into asphalt with a grunt. He was… in the alley? No—a different alley. No sign of a rooftop. No stairs. No phone.

"What the hell…?" he whispered.

Something shifted behind him. A tall figure leaned against a dumpster, arms crossed.

"You dropped in uninvited," the voice said, smooth and young. A teenager, maybe sixteen, but his presence hit like a storm. He wore a sleeveless hoodie, black gloves, and a cocky smirk.

Kai recognized him instantly. Arden Vale. The strongest street fighter in the city. The undefeated.

"You’re the Shadow Jumper?" Arden asked, cracking his knuckles. "Not gonna lie, you look like a sleep-deprived noodle."

"I don’t know what I—"

"Shhh," Arden interrupted. "Let’s test you."

Without warning, he darted forward. Kai barely reacted in time. The shadows moved. Not on instinct—through him.

A shield burst from the ground, swallowing Arden’s punch in a puff of darkness.

Arden stepped back, impressed. “Okay. That’s fun.”

The fight didn’t last long. Kai was too untrained, too confused. Arden was holding back, obviously.

But before it could go any further, a low pressure filled the air. The shadows thickened like smoke, the world growing colder.

From the darkness behind them, a man stepped out.

His coat billowed like it had a life of its own. His eyes gleamed violet, like eclipses trapped in glass. Shadows clung to his body like loyal wolves.

“The boy’s mine,” he said.

Arden scoffed. “Still collecting strays, Sovereign?”

“You’ve been warned before,” the man growled. “Leave.”

Kai stared between the two.

Arden—young, strong, alive like fire.

The man—older, quieter, but cold as death.

Two paths. Both cloaked in shadow.
