Isaac, a five-year-old boy, was having the best day of his life.
It was his birthday, how could it not be a great day? His dad got him a toy cybernetic eye, his mom got him a plastic katana, and his three-year-old sister Jenny, well… though she was different, she was always a joy to have around. This was going to be the start of a great year.
And then Jenny ran off.
Isaac loved his sister to bits, but she always ran off with her friends to crazy places that not even he knew, and he knew the little cul-de-sac that was their neighborhood pretty well, as well as most of the surroundings. He’d be lucky to find Jenny alone. He just hoped that the Dylan guy wasn’t with her… that guy was obnoxious.
As he thought that, he was pushed down by a kid a little taller than him, a little stronger than him, a little more good-looking than him, and a little more snobby than him.
“Well well well!” Dylan chuckled as he towered over Isaac, “Looks like Cyborg Boy just turned five! Now you can take much bigger hits!”
Isaac groaned as he re-adjusted his cybernetic eye. “I’m more human than you, Hellboy…” The demon seemed to laugh at the attempt of an insult. “I just think cyborgs are really cool.”
The bully just scoffed and proceeded to kick Isaac over and over again, not showing any signs of stopping, and all the kid could do was take the blows, trying to defend himself. After what seemed like an eternity, Dylan bent down next to Isaac’s ear and whispered softly.
“Then you won’t be needing this, now, will you?” He mocked as he took the cybernetic eye off of Isaac. He put it on himself, as tight as it was, and smirked at the child he just beat to the ground. “See you later, freak” he turned to walk away.
Too bad a mischievous little three-year-old was standing there staring at him.
It didn't seem like much of a threat, what with a six-year-old facing a three-year-old, and Dylan definitely assumed he could push the little girl over. “Step aside, kid,” he threatened the child, “or you’ll end up like your brother.”
Jenny did not move. She looked the demon straight in the eyes with a glare that would kill if it could. The one thing about her that Isaac could admire was, as insane as she was, she was confident as all hell.
Dylan on the other hand, stood emotionless. He didn’t much care for the smaller child. He wasn’t afraid of a tiny little girl, of all things. Why should he be? He’s stronger, bigger, faster, and could pound her to the ground if he really wanted to.
Jenny inched closer. “Give Big Brother his eye back,” she commanded the demon. All that arose was a laugh as a punch went hurtling towards the girl. Isaac was scared her sister was done for as he waited for “the power of hell” to take his sister.
…
…..
…….
'What?' Isaac thought. Out of all the noise he was expecting, the only one was a slight thud, a crash to the ground, a slight gasp, and then silence. He looked towards where his sister and the demon stood.
What he saw was a sight that he could not even have thought of seeing.
Standing before him was Jenny on top of Dylan, who had somehow been flipped by the little girl who caught the punch.
Isaac had never been more proud.
“And that,” Jenny smirked as she pried the cybernetic eye off of Dylan, “is why you don’t mess with Big Brother when I’m around!” She kicked Dylan and walked towards Isaac. “Here you go!” she handed his eye back.
Struggling to get up, he took back the eye, smiling at Jenny. “H-how…” he started, “How did you d-do that..?”
“Judice taught me!”
Ah, Judice. She was five years old, one of Jenny’s best friends… and had SERIOUS anger issues! Isaac was a little uncomfortable around her, but he was relieved to know she was helping his little sister out.
He chuckled. “That’s nice… n-now let's go home…” Isaac reached for Jenny when suddenly sirens rang through the air. He looked to the noise “What the… Come on, let’s hu-”
'Oh no.'
'Oh no oh no oh no oh no.'
Jenny was gone.
“JENNY!!!” Isaac shouted as loud as he could. He looked everywhere and saw his sister with four other girls.
Among them, he saw Judice.
Oh, thank god! He thought, relieved. But it didn't change the fact that he needed his sister. “Jenny! Come he-"
That’s all Isaac could get out before a bomb from the sky landed in between him and the girls and exploded.
His vision fading as he lay on the ground, he looked around, seeing if the girls were ok.
And right where the girls were, in the middle of the destroyed neighborhood, were five singed corpses, lying lifelessly, staring towards the crimson sky.
Oh god no… He thought before his vision faded to black, for what he thought was the final time.
He woke up a few hours later, only slightly, as he heard a male voice nearby, yet so distant.
“He will do just fine.” The voice said, almost in consideration. “Bring him to the lab.”
Isaac whispered “What lab…?" As he felt something sharp enter his arm and a weird feeling envelope his body as he fell into the black oblivion once again.
Isaac, a five-year-old boy, was having the worst day of his life.
