I stirred in my bed, turning over to see my phone screen quickly flicker off. I scooted to the edge of the bed and grabbed at it, holding it in the pure darkness that was my room. I clicked the button on the side to turn it on, only to reveal five missed calls from my friend. I peeked at my clock that hung above my bookshelf.
“Four in the morning…? What does he need…” I groaned. I scrolled down to see missed message after message and even a voicemail. Suddenly, I sat up as one of them caught my eye. I gasped silently, covering my mouth as my eyes read and reread the message to make sure it said what it actually said.
She’s going to do it. Save her, now. She won’t listen to me.
I grabbed the jacket that was on my chair and blasted through the house, running down the stairs and out of the door. I ran into the middle of the street, my brain rapidly thinking of ideas before it was too late.
My parents? They’ll never wake up and get there on time. Her parents? They’ll never answer at this time of night... My bike? Her house is way too far away… Nothing’s going to work… Oh god, what am I to do?
I collapsed to the cold gravel and began to cry. Tears streamed down my face, my soul quickly losing hope.
“Please…” I begged. “Someone help me help her…” I closed my eyes tight, hoping for an answer. The wind blew quietly behind me, while the light pole near me flashed off and back on again.
I felt something hot touch my shoulder, causing me to look up and see nothing but a car in the background. I shook it off to be nothing, slumping down to my original position.
Blink.
...
“...Vin...cent?” I heard my friend say. I was suddenly upright and floating in her room. She stared at me just as much as I stared back. I fell to the floor with a soft thud, making me moan slightly.
Wha-what? How did I get here? I rubbed my head in utter confusion.
As I was trying to recollect myself, the girl took a step back towards the window that was open behind her. My mind froze as I stretched out my arm, clamping my eyes shut once more.
NO!
I opened my eyes, and there she was, wrapped up in my arms like a teddy bear. Her eyes were closed, just like mine a few moments ago. Looking around, I saw grass below us, as well as a house next door.
“What… what the…” I muttered to myself, looking to the side. I landed softly on the ground, looking up at the window that we had just exited out of. I jumped back up towards it, floating the both of us gently and into her room. Laying her back on her bed, I blinked my eyes and collapsed near the window, almost as if I was out of power. I reached my hand up to grab the edge of her bed…
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
My hand touched the cold plastic of my alarm clock, pressing the off button on the machine slowly.
“Man, it’s going to be one of those days…” I uttered quietly to myself, rubbing my hands over my eyes in the pure darkness that was my room.
