Time is a funny thing. There are long stretches where it seems nothing significant happened, and short periods where everything changes. This story focuses on the latter.
In this world, the pyramids were built, the Roman Empire rose and fell, and the philosophers made their musings on life, society, and the purpose of existence.
The course of time changed with the fall of a single fae kingdom. The murder of a fae queen led to the collapse of her realm. In an attempt to escape, her subjects fled the safety of the middle realm between the Earth and heaven to find refuge among humans. This group of fae lived peacefully within the Kingdom of Gallan… for a time.
Humans are fickle creatures.
They can easily grow weary of the same magic they were once entranced by. Additionally, humans seldom take responsibility for their own shortcomings. Over time, it became easier and easier to blame crop blights, poor decisions, and illnesses on a group of willowy, horned foreigners.
People fear what they do not understand and they hate what they fear.
Thus, for the last hundred years, the fae have lived as second class citizens within the Kingdom of Gallan. Forbidden from using their magic under penalty of death or irons, and banned from formal education, they face inequality and segregation that few could overcome. Any sort of friendship, let alone romantic relationship, between the races would be considered highly taboo.
Bran, a fae-human halfling, unwittingly steals the heart of the dashing Prince Rowan. Will Rowan still love him when he learns his true nature?
