Spectacles: Violet Flame

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Dec 23, 2025

I'm not a morning kid, usually. That's because morning time can be a gift on the weekend, but a curse on week days. If school can define a different kind of morning for me, along with every kid in my time, then they might all say the same thing as me - mornings can suck, for the first hour or so. Mainly because I'm trying to get through them to let my day roll out better than it starts. So as I fit into my shoes, and get my backpack on hand, I don't want to get teased about the breakfast waiting for me downstairs.

"Mm-mmm! Your food is always good, Mom!", my sister shouts from the kitchen. She wants me to know how it feels to be missing out on getting my stomach filled up, sometimes throwing words like 'delicious', 'scrumptious', and other stuff to say she beat me to the table. Being a boy, I feel like I unlocked some sort of knowledge that we're meant to become slower in our energy when getting to our teens, because growing up makes me appreciate my bed more, and wanting to let it wrap me up most of the time where no one can bother me. But with school gripping my collar, I'm expected to march forward and face it as always.

Heading to the kitchen is the easy part, hurrying up is not. I get ready to greet my mom and sister, while glossing over the pace I'm catching myself up to.

Taking my breakfast with me isn't usual for this time, so my mom sticks a note to my head that I should keep the food to myself, just wanting to make sure I know how to stand up to anyone on my bus. You never expect when she's about to throw a lesson or a bit of advice at you, but she means well when her quick mind is up to send it your way. My sister finishes a homemade bun with ease and takes a hop down from the bar stool to stand beside me when I reach the front door. "Now have a good day.", my mom tells both of us. We throw a light wave back to her as I say "We will. Bye." Opening the door, I look out to the left side of the house driveway where the road meets the curb, as I see the bus comes to a stop for arriving just in time. We get ready to board, as I can pretty much expect how I'm going to be greeted.

My name is Tekuren, a very smart and strong name my parents placed on me, but I've shortened it for everyone to call me Teeko. I'm an Arab American, sticking out from the other kids due to my features. Because of that, I'm already used to the treatment I get on this ride. Our bus driver Mr. Haynes greets me and Ki with a "Good morning, kids!", as I respond back "Morning." I barely get a chance to turn towards the seats when the boys down below together yell my way "HEY, HOT HEADED!"

Kion couldn't care less about how I get treated, since she doesn't think my teasing is anything to fuss about and always leaves me on my own when it comes to the name-calls. I don't need to respond when Mr. Haynes calms down the banter as he looks back to them and says "Don't be rude, guys. Let's get to school."

Ki goes on ahead to sit with the girls in her grade, like nothing ever happened. So natural of her. I take my seat with one of the only guys I know on my bus, Chase. He's among the elementary students, and no one bothers him for his own interests. Sometimes my mind forces me to think he’s got a better school life than me, but I never talk any deeper to him than on the surface level.

Once I arrive at school, I head over to my locker in the halls as one of my daily routines. It's always necessary to organize my belongings by visiting my locker, but this time, I'm surprised by a sudden tap on my shoulder. I turn my head to face who I'm always expecting to brighten up my day eventually.

We walk down to our classes while getting to catch up on things, which is how most days go forward. As we move past other students, they're familiar with our incomparable dynamic. Everybody knows the story of me and Allie's bond, as we first met each other in our toddler years, and just became trusted friends as time went on. We would always gravitate towards each other in our first few months of being playmates in preschool, and our parents were just glad that I had the enjoyment of giving her some company.

Alexandria is a non-vocal girl with social anxiety, only comfortable interacting strongly with those she gets quite open to in time. As for the clown makeup she wears, well, it's a part of her charm. She wants to present herself as entertaining, cause she loves the idea of making people smile and laugh, spreading positivity all because she knows it's possible. It's a nice way to go about life, and I always respect her for it. On the communication side of things though, there's a device she always gets everyone used to. Allie carries an interesting phone on hand to talk to people. It's one of those older generation pieces of tech that looks ancient, but also cool on her - with a sliding little keyboard and a tinier compact size for her to carry around like a girly fashion item.

Whenever she needs to 'speak' for sentences and meaningful responses, which is usually all the time, she uses a notes area on the phone to type out stuff, and lets anyone read off the screen. It's become the usual for friends and family in her own world, and she has a pass to use it in school as her support item. To be her close friend is an awesome experience, and you get even awesomer benefits from having a small family. Since we've grown up together so tight-knit, it would just make sense that our families have become super close. The Evresses and the Conaways have traveled together quite often. We've definitely arranged some memorable vacation trips to spend together, common enough to where we can reflect on at least one trip being held every year by now.

But as I get my use of seeing Allie for the morning, we both have to head our separate ways as we know it. Though I get to see her later in the day eventually, class is the divider for all that we have to handle. As that puts a close on the details that define my mornings of the week, the rest of my time stands as everything I have to endure before waking up to my favorite treat - the weekend.
