"SAMANTHA PEARSON, IF YOU DON'T WAKE UP I SWEAR!"
Okay that's my cue.
I've set up 5 alarms on my clock but only my mom's voice can actually make me get up from bed.
I immediately stood up and went to take a bath.
Today's my first day as a law student, in a town that's unfamiliar to me.
My mom and I moved here when my father died 5 months ago. We decided to start over in a small town. We are moving on little by little as we try to live our lives with only the 2 of us.
I am very close with my mother. She is my bestfriend, we tell each other everything. She is the kind of person who never judges me even if I make bad decisions. She's incredibly supportive of me, and I love her with all my heart.
But sometimes she can be a pain-in-the-ass alarm clock.
I went down to the kitchen and ate breakfast as my mom is reading a book sipping her coffee.
"Good morning, my little lawyer." She said, putting down her book.
"Uhmm woah step back a little mom. I'm still a 1st year law student and today is just the first day."
"Time flies too fast, sweetie. One day you'll be surprised you're already there taking your oath as a lawyer." she said, as if she's more excited than me.
She was the happiest when I told her I wanted to be a lawyer, and she supported me completely, and helped me with whatever I needed.
As we finished our breakfast, I got up and got ready to leave.
I kissed my mom goodbye and went to my car and drove straight to my new university.
My uni is smaller compared to those in the big cities. But it is quiet and serene and the environment is so calming. There are plants and trees everywhere. I think it's an amazing place, and perfect for me.
As I walk down the hallways, warm and smiling faces greeted me. Everybody here is so kind, and dressed so nicely.
I was checking my schedule and I felt the environment stiffed around me. I put down my schedule for a while and looked up, and followed everyone's eyes to see what the fuss was about.
Walking in is a couple ---- a powerhouse couple, if I may say.
The girl is so stunning, like a supermodel walking on a runway. She has brown eyes and long blonde hair, with full fringe. She's wearing a dress, simple but elegant enough for other girls to feel intimidated and insecure. She's walking confidently but her soft features make me feel that she's lovely and humble.
Holding this gorgeous woman's hand is a tall man with mesmerizing blue eyes. He was wearing black jeans and blue jacket, and I could swear every girl in the school is looking at him right now with mouths wide open.
For a moment, he looked my way and our eyes met. It was only for a second but I felt my world stopping, his ocean blue eyes drowning me.
"That's Nathan Dawson", said the girl standing next to me.
"I'm sorry?" I asked, confused.
"That person you were staring at, his name is Nathan Dawson. Everyone calls him 'Nate'." She answered.
"I wasn't staring, they just happened to walk by so I glanced a little." I said. I'm not even sure why I felt like defending myself. So what if I was looking? It's not like I walked up to that handsome guy and grabbed his hand and----
OH God what am I thinking.
"It doesn't matter anyway, because that woman beside him, Ashley Robinson, is his long-time girlfriend."
"Oh." I answered. Of course she's his girlfriend, they were holding hands. And they really look good together.
"I'm Millie by the way. What's your name?"
Millie is a little taller than me, and she has short straight black hair. She's wearing huge earrings, topped with a jacket and paired with a miniskirt. She looks pretty, I can tell she cares so much about fashion. And it suits her.
"Sam. Samantha Pearson." I answered smiling.
"Nice to meet you, Sam. I'm guessing you're a freshman as well. So that means we have the same major subjects. Come on, let's go to class."
"Oh! Okay, thank you!"
-------------------------------------------
"Millie, I have a question. We're both freshmen but why do you know almost everyone here?" I asked as we settled down in our seats. We decided to sit at the back row.
"Almost all of us here went to the same high school and college. And this is a small town so everybody practically already knows each other. That's how I could tell you're a freshman and obviously you're not from here."
I just nodded in response.
"You're so quiet. If we're going to be close, you're gonna have to speak more. Having Cassie around is more than enough quietness for me."
"Cassie?"
"Yes, Cassie. She prefers Cassandra but I call her Cassie to piss her off. She's my bestfriend and she's a quiet one just like you. She's a sophomore though, same as Nate and Ashley. Eat lunch with us later so I can introduce you to Cassie."
"Sure! Thanks so much. You've been a great help to me today." I said, smiling widely.
-------------------------
1st and 2nd period went by so fast. Nothing much has happened since it's the 1st day of class. Our professors just introduced themselves and set their expectations on our subjects and discussed this semester's syllabus.
After the 2nd period, Millie took me to the university's cafeteria to meet Cassandra.
"In here, bitch!" Millie shouted at the cute, petite woman entering the cafeteria who I'm guessing is Cassandra. She has short curly hair, wearing eyeglasses and is wearing a black coat and a pencil skirt. She looks so professional, she's actually already dressed like a lawyer.
"You could have just waved your hand, I could easily spot you with those gigantic earrings." Cassandra said sarcastically as she sat beside me and in front of Millie.
"I was excited to see you! I want you to meet Sam, my new friend." Millie said reaching for both our hands, forcing us to do a handshake.
"Hi Cassandra, it's great to meet you. I hope we can be good friends." I said shyly.
"So typical of Millie to befriend a new face." She said laughing. "Hello Sam, I'm happy to meet you, I hope you're not as loud and tactless as the bitch in front of me" She said and we both chuckled.
"Hey!" Millie said pouting.
"By the way Cassie, what the fuck is wrong with your face? You look so tired and stressed out!"
"Uhm, I studied???" Cassandra answered, as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.
"It's just the first day! Come on don't be such a nerd!"
"Millie, this is law school. It's a different league. Sam, here's my advice, as early as now, start studying and reading your books. It's going to get tougher from now on. If you need anything or if there are lessons you can't understand, just ask me." Cassandra looked at me softly.
"I see, thank you so much." I smiled nervously.
"Yeah, Cassie is like the top hot nerd here. She and Nate are always competing for the highest batch ranks."
I looked at Cassandra with wide eyes and with admiration. I was also surprised to hear that the pretty boy from earlier is also very smart.
Speaking of the "pretty boy", he and his girlfriend just walked in and sat five tables away from us.
As he was sitting down, his eyes met mine again. This time, it lasted for a few seconds. He turned away when his girlfriend called him.
I don't know but there's something in his eyes that gives me weird feelings. I am probably blushing a little right now.
I just brushed off my thoughts and put my attention to the two bickering ladies in my table. We just exchanged various stories until the bell rang.
Millie and I said goodbye to Cassandra and went to our next class.
The day went by quickly until our last subject has finished. I felt tired so I went straight home.
I told my mother all about this day, the professors and subjects I have, and of course, the friends I met.
Today was just the 1st day of law school but so much has already happened.
But overall, I'm glad I already made friends who are willing to help and support me in my journey. I can definitely feel that great things are about to happen from now on.
