My story starts with my grandma. She was a different kind of human. She could go to space without any protection, fly, and her and anyone who shared pieces of her blood, aged slowly. Grandma Berry calls it out "forever young" years. With the power she realized she'd obtained from birth, she met the people of the cosmos. The stars were always in her hands and little pieces of the universe always followed her. They were constant reminders of who she was.
Even with all the wonders she had seen up in space, she came back and settled down with her husband, Papa Dustin. They love each other very much and as a result, two babies followed. My mom and my Uncle Axeo.
One unfortunate night, Papa Dustin was killed, and Grandma Berry returned to the cosmos leaving her oh-so-young children behind.
They were only 12 and 15, my mom being 12. The family was torn in pieces and it shattered when Uncle Axeo eventually left too, running away into the night, searching for a purpose that he would never find.
My mom was all alone, left to fend for herself, so she did and when she was old enough and persevered through it all, she settled down with my father, Lukas, and had me..and my other 4 siblings: Maxi, Starlene, Manrie, and little Marc.
Grandma Berry would return and the family would slowly glue themselves back together with forgiveness and understanding. But, even still, a hole in their hearts where Papa Dustin's missing piece would fit remained.
Mom likes to tell the story to say that, "Even when all the odds slam you around, you still have to try for what you believe will happen in the future. That's hope."
My wet tears slapped down on the paper I was writing on as I thought about it. I was in school, staring at the prompt that I scribbled onto my paper. My quiet sobs were growing louder. Mr. Osborn sighed heavily.
"Star go pull yourself together." He said irritably. The class turned and stared at me. I uncomfortably stood and rushed out of the classroom.
