Prologue
"Hello? You okay, Phen?" A person asked.
I sat up, shaking my head, thinking, I have heard this voice before. I saw an outline of a male body, and I couldn't make out who it was. I look around me and know that I am lying in a hospital bed and have no idea what is happening.
'W… W… What happened?" I said with a sudden headache pounding my head like bells going off to signal a fire.
An outline of a face looked at me again, dropped his head, stared at his hands, and didn't respond. I asked him again.
"What was going on! Why am I in the hospital." I said, pleading to know what was going on.
He looked back up with tears and said, "I thought I almost lost you."
He was shaking as if he was trying to hold back the tears.
"Lost me…" I said, wondering what was so bad that happened.
"Your parents were driving you, and they managed to get into an accident. The car hasn't been recovered yet to see if any other problems may have led to that, but your parents, your parents, they didn't make it." He said sternly but heartfelt.
My heart dropped as I sat there in silence, wondering how I could forget or be so unaware of something like that.
"You've been here for two weeks unconscious; I'll go get the doctors so they can check your vitals to see if you'll be okay," a voice said.
He got up and exited the room, leaving me with my thought.
Something here didn't feel right; something felt off.
I sat there for a second and got up to look outside the window. I stayed there for a minute, and a bird came and tapped on the window.
Tap…
Tap…
Tap…
And on the third tap, I was folded with the harsh reality taken away from my memories. I remember everything. I placed my mission. I got up, found my clothes, got around quickly, and was ready to save humanity.
