Steven Universe- Opal AUniverse

First Encounter

First Encounter

May 19, 2020

The whole of Homeworld was in tremors.

The highest of the high, the greatest of the most magnificent Empires were on their knees against this group of seemingly harmless defects.

The Rebellion, to say the least, was unexpected. Every Gem on this Universe was programmed to blindly abide by their Diamond’s request, no matter how much the urge overtakes them. They were made for a purpose, as a tool, to expand the Empire more than they already had. Their greed was incessant; they wanted to colonize and colonize, and when it was done, they wanted to further it, without checking the well-being of the gems.

But who were they, puny little rocks, much below the brilliance of the Diamonds, to question? They were, after all, pawns in this game of a single winner.

The Rebellion was started at Pink Diamond's first colony; the Earth. The Prime Kindergarten had fully emerged Amethyst soldiers, strong and bulky. The Beta Kindergarten had a handful of Jaspers too, but some of them were a bit insufficient.

Out of one of them was a lonely defect; who was neither a match to the whip of Holly Blue Agate, nor a match to the less than half powerful attacks of Pink Diamonds most precious Jasper. She was kept under Blue Diamond's watch out of pity; a last legacy of her precious Pink's first and last attempt. The Amethyst worked twice as hard, tried to look twice as good, be twice the gem that she was; but her failure was inevitable. She was a mere joke, a defective mistake.

The forest was the only place she could call home- well, apart from the Kindergarten- and it was her escape for the treacherous treatment of Homeworld's loyal gems. It also helped that she was provided with the best exotic fruits and whims of fresh, clear air; much unlike the Court's suffocating nature.

She took out her whip almost effortlessly, and lassoed it around a tree, which she promptly uprooted seconds after. This brought about a wonderful surge of confidence and freedom, because of which she proceeded to take down imaginary enemies and some other plants. She might have fought a bear at some point.

She was exhausted after a spending a whole lot of time of vigorous training. It must have been long, for the sun had just started to come up when she started and now it was about it go down, or sunset, as she heard some gems say. In the midst of her heavy panting she heard a distinct rustle in her surroundings.

Her senses heightened as she advanced towards the source. She shapeshifted into a feline, for she observed that they rarely made any noise in their locomotion- it would make her almost unnoticeable. She took slight step, and a flash of silver appeared before her eyes. She bet herself that she had seen it somewhere; just recently. Amethyst took out her whip and clenched it around her paws. She then saw a pair of two milky and smooth legs, pouncing around the place. This was accompanied with the sound of swords striking against each other, clinking.

She then looked up to see a face, and then she knew it...

It was the terrifying renegade Pearl.

She had heard stories and legends about her. How she skillfully took down a fleet of Homeworld Agate soldiers in a matter of seconds singlehandedly. How she had lured countless gems into the Rebellion using her tactics, leaving no choice but for them to either surrender or willingly give themselves after hers, Rose Quartz and her personal Sapphire’s manipulating words.

If she was a proper Homeworld soldier, maybe she would bestow herself to her radiance too.

Beautiful didn't even start describing how she looked. An immaculate bob of pink-ish hair neatly kept adorned her head, her pearl shining in lustrous colours against the reds and yellows and oranges of the sunset. Her face exhibited confidence, strength, and bravery. It was evident she was there to fight, and to fight patriotically for her cause. Her stance was perfect, like a knight should, and her movements were fluid like water, flowing seamlessly from one pose to another. Droplets of sweat came down her pale neck, and she took a pause to wipe it off with her slender fingers.

Amethyst was in a deep daze, her eyes not daring to fix themselves anywhere but the goddess of a gem in front of her. She was subconsciously leaning away from her hiding spot, and tumbled right across the bush that covered her. In her pain and loss of focus she shifted back to her original form. When she got all the dust and twigs off her face and wiped her uniform, her eyes were looking at the point of a sword dangerously close to her nose. With a startled jump she went back, whimpering in fear.

This was it, this was her end.

She closed her eyes and tears welled up her eyes.

No, she couldn’t give up. If she brought the most dangerous Pearl right in front of Blue Diamond’s knees she would be the most glorified soldier. She would no longer be a mistake, exploited and thrown around. She would be feared, she would be given a rank. She would be given honor, she would be appreciated for once in her life for the countless nights she worked and practiced, whilst the other guards lucky enough to be ‘perfect’ enjoyed the frivolity of the balls and parties.

She looked the Pearl right in her eyes. She seemed concerned, yet intrigued. She eyes were scanning every inch of her purple body. Her digits narrowed onto her torso, possibly calculating where her weakness was. Amethyst took her off-guardedness as an opportunity to attack her. Her whip wrapped around her chest. Pearl gave a startled yelp, and swiftly used her sword to cut off the strands that captured her, when Amethyst backed slightly again, and brought not one, but two whips in front of her, her stature rock solid now. She screamed and enveloped her long legs in her whip, giving it a push to make her completely fall down on her back. Amethyst gave a maniac chuckle, happy for her short victory, allowing herself to hope she would fulfill her purpose. Pearl snapped her weapon again and hopped onto where she was again, aiming right at her gem.

Amethyst broke into a cold sweat. She roared and started moving ahead, wildly swatting her whip everywhere. The Pearl blocked every single one of her attack, moving backwards languidly, and an irking smirk on her face.

Amethyst’s stature was close to breaking. Her breath was shaky and her limbs were tired. She had overexterted herself the whole day. Normally it wouldn’t bother her as much, for it enabled her to move on, but today- the mere thought of getting shattered by one of the very people she wanted to overpower…

Wait, since when did she think of a Pearl to be a soldier?

The question went fleeting through her brain, for she had more important things to care about. Like how her strength was depreciating, much like her self-esteem, every second.

When the Pearl bore her gaze of her hauntingly blue eyes into hers, mocking her that she had lost, she broke into the tears that were hot and waiting to slip off.

The Amethyst could not so much as to move her arms to defend herself, so she surrendered. Gave a loud wail and said

“Kill me, please just shatter me! I’m not good for anything. No matter what I do, no matter how hard I’ve been trying for the thousands of years I existed, I just can’t be of any use. Please, just dispose off me”

She gingerly held the cold and sharp blade of her sword, guiding it towards her gem, her eyes staring into her amazingly blue ones, looking at her flawless body one last time, begging silently for her to get through with it...

A very much used concept, but not all episodes are done in this format, so hey why not?

Or

Join Opal and her counterparts as they find their place in this universe as a fusion, aka, an abomination to Homeworld

PS- This cover art is not mine, sorry if I used someone else's...I am the farthest thing from a decent artist. Thats why this is not a comic, but a novel. so unless I find a cover which is mine or someone volunteering to draw for me, I dont have any option left do I?
