Kyle liked the feel of wind in his face, it distracted him from his worries and always made him smile. Right now he just wanted to tune out the woman driving the car he was in who was talking a mile a minute about how much he would love it; she was some old friend of his mothers who had agreed to house him on his “vacation”, he didn’t really know what to call it but it didn’t really feel like a true vacation, not that he would know though since he had never been on one.
The wind danced through his ash black hair and messed it up, not that he cared as it caressed his scalp. He closed his eyes and thought back to the days leading up to this trip of his; it wasn’t that he needed it but that his mother thought he did, and he would do anything for her since she had done so much for him her whole life.
People were screaming, girls mostly as he sang for them on stage. Jumping and dancing to the beat of the song as he tried his best to make them believe that he still enjoyed it like he did when he had started years ago. It was still somewhat enjoyable though, it had always been his dream to sing and he finally got what he had always wanted. Though sometimes when something you enjoy doing becomes a job and chore to do then you start to dread it more than love it.
When he had finished the song and finally got to thank them and get off of that stage he remembered feeling relieved, he didn’t know why though because he loved what he did didn’t he. After a quick break he had taken some pictures with fans, signed some autographs and did a short interview or two about the tour he had just finished.
“So what’s next for you?” the one question he remembered everyone asked, it always was as long as he could remember. Every single time he did an interview they would always ask him that question and he could never answer them and instead just smiled and shrugged.
People had begun to think that he was just teasing them by doing that and didn’t even think that he truly didn’t know where his life was going anymore. He did enjoy preforming don’t get him wrong, but he got tired of acting the way people wanted him to act, “If you can help me take care of my mother then I will do anything you want me to” he recalled saying to his manager back before he was famous. Kyle had kept his word though and did everything asked of him and in return he became someone who could fill his fathers shoes and take care of his mother, but he could feel the weight of what it cost him now.
After all the required after parties, celebrations and one last interview with some person who he didn’t care to remember he was free to rest up before his next album was set to be recorded. More love songs for more girls that don’t exist, it was getting repetitive and he had changed too much to still be able to fake it to make it. It was after all hard to sing about something you’ve never felt or had.
People did think though that he and Elise were a couple, the singer and the model; a story so old and cliché that they just let it take off and get out of control like it did. Truth was that they were just really good friends, she was the only real friend he had in this life of fame he had. She also didn’t mind people thinking that they were together since she liked the chaos and fame it brought her, it was only an extra point for her that it helped her to hide the fact that she loved her freedom to play with as many boys as she could. The only people who knew the truth about them were his mother and their managers, they had to or it would all get way too out of hand. He had really thought that people would have noticed by now that they didn’t even act like a real couple, but people just said that they were too shy to do anything couple like for the camera.
Truth though, he himself didn’t know why he never wanted to date anyone, his mother always says that he is just waiting for the right person but he had no clue if that was true or not. There were plenty of confessions sure and more than enough who would say yes if he asked them to be his but he didn’t feel right saying yes or asking; it wouldn’t be real.
It must have all gotten to be too much and started to show because the first day of his break after everything his mother had called him to go out for lunch, luckily to a private little place where they had always gone and his fans had respected enough to not bother him at. They ate and talked like they always did but he could feel that something was different from how it normally was, though he didn’t say anything and just waited for his mother to say what was on her mind.
“You need a proper break” she had said when their coffee arrived after lunch, he still didn’t say anything but instead just looked at her while taking a sip of his coffee. “I called your manager and cleared you up for a while longer then what you had originally” she said and this time he didn’t sit quietly. “You did what? Why?” he wasn’t mad, he could never be mad at his mother who had supported him his whole life and she loved him for it.
“Don’t think I haven’t been paying attention honey, your miserable; and I am not over reacting by saying that. You’re a ghost just going through the motions of fame, and if I noticed others aren’t far behind which is why I told your manager that you needed a proper break; which reminds me, you leave in the morning, everything is sorted” he couldn’t believe what he was hearing, “But I do…”
His mother cut him off with a raised hand, “I know the reason why you carry on honey, and that’s why I have decided to send you someplace you can get your thoughts in order” she looked at him with love as she said it and he looked back at her with guilt. “Where am I going?” he remembered asking and her smiling.
“We’re here” the woman next to him said shaking him with a hand on his shoulder to get him out of his head, he opened his eyes and looked out at the large beautiful lake before him not having noticed that the car had stopped or that she had been calling his name for a minute or two before shaking him, “Welcome to Heartlake” she said getting out of the car. So this was where his mother wanted him to go and get his thoughts in order, where she wanted him to go and relax so that he can decide for once and for all what was next for Kyle Ryder.
