“You bastard!” Knightmare shouted as she ran ahead of Jenny.
Jenny’s legs hurt from the running. That wasn’t something she was used to anymore. She felt slightly numb, startled. Fuck.
“Unbelievable!”
Jenny had to agree with that, though what she ended up shouting was:
“Do you have some sort of plan, given the way you’re dragging me around?!”
Knightmare rounded a corner before glancing back at Jenny. Jenny yanked her goggles off of her eyes to hang around her neck. She ran surprisingly slow without her powers. Knightmare looked back at the road.
“Yeah,” she said. “I plan to find us a place to lie low for a bit. And I think I know someone who can get these cuffs off.”
Knightmare’s expression clouded over slightly as she turned right, heading down an alley.
“Sorry about this,” she continued, “but please trust me.”
Jenny took a deep breath, and nodded.
Nina kept straight on through the alley, still dragging Sugar Rush behind.
Lie low and get rid of these handcuffs, she repeated in her mind.
Nina ran her free hand through her hair. Her left wrist was starting to chafe. She let out some of her frustration with a growl when Sugar tripped, but still grabbed Sugar’s arm and pulled her up.
“Too conspicuous,” Nina muttered, “why do you have to have a bright pink costume?”
Sugar didn’t bother answering, just kept running. She seemed to be having trouble breathing now, but then, so was Nina.
Nina dragged them through a network of alleyways until they reached a secluded warehouse she knew. She glanced behind them, listening for footsteps before actually opening the door.
Jenny fell to her knees when the door closed. It was surprising how much losing her powers had messed up her stamina. Or maybe she was just panicking. Either way, her lungs burned.
Knightmare took a seat next to her, letting Jenny’s cuffed arm come down to her side.
They sat there in silence for a while, and Jenny finally took a good look at Knightmare’s now unobscured face.
It seemed that the way Knightmare disguised her identity was actually through her powers. A powerful illusion projected armor onto her, black but glittering with blue and purple. A billowing cape filled with stars. Her sword was real, of course, but she’d lost it in the scuffle.
Without her powers, Knightmare was… smaller. She was a bit long, a bit thin, with pale skin and a sharp nose. Her eyes were brown, and her straight raven hair fell just past her small shoulders. She was dressed simply, a plain red t-shirt under a leather jacket with bluejeans and black sneakers.
Jenny flushed slightly as Knightmare’s studied her in turn. Jenny was slightly short, her shoulders a bit broad. Her skin was a light tan, and she had a roundish nose. Her dyed bright blue hair hung in a bob of tight curls. She didn’t wear a mask, so her eyes were clearly visible, round and hazel and bright. Her whole outfit was in hot pink and lemon yellow. Lemon yellow tights and jacket, hot pink dress and sneakers. The goggles around her neck were hot pink with bubblegum accents.
Jenny took very careful breaths, and after a while the burning subsided.
“Sorry again,” Knightmare said. “I think we’ve got a bit. This place has water, if you need it, and a bathroom. Should be some food, too.”
“I and some friends use it as a safehouse,” she further explained when Jenny gave her a questioning look. “We can make it through this without getting caught.”
Carmilla was not a vampire. She did not drink blood. She was not pale. She was not undead, had no fangs, could not change her shape or grow younger.
Carmilla had warm brown skin, and hair dyed a shade of maroon. Her hair fell halfway down her back in two braids, the left one connecting to her also braided bangs. Her features were striking, her eyebrows naturally black. Her eyes were a strange shade of dark pink, and she had a mole under the left.
She was of near average height and build. She dressed in a light pink halter top, blue jeans, a baby blue cardigan, and pink canvas sneakers. She carried a black purse on her shoulder, and walked with confidence.
Carmilla glanced over her shoulder as she started down the alley.
