Where once stood the ancient city of Aelwynne, was now a scorched and ruined land. All signs of life were either destroyed or had fled during the unexpected attack. Soldiers laid among the ground, their bodies withering away, no longer able to hold their physical forms.
Yet, the attack was not over. Inside the destroyed castle of the royal family, a fated battle was at hand. Beams of energy were cast from both sides, blue and red clashed with black, causing massive explosions to occur when they collided. As the smoked cleared, two figures stood, far from each other. Both riddled with scratches and burns among their bodies. Exhausted from their battling, they both fall to their knees.
The first figure, a young woman with pale skin and straight black hair covering her face. Her black robes were scorched and ripped. Reaching behind her, she pulled out a small crystal.
“…Damn. The last one, eh? Well, better make it count,” she cursed under her breath. Crushing the crystal, it released a cloud of dust, which was absorbed by her body. Quickly rising to her feet from the surge of energy, the woman lifted her head with eyes glowing brightly, the left glowing a deep shade of red, while the right was a sky blue. Then with a burst of confidence, she spoke.
“Kragen, vicious commander of the Ordian army, I am Abigail Harmonia. You are responsible for my creation, and now…” while announcing her title, Abigail lifted her hands to a fighting stance, casting an incantation upon her arms, then continued, “Fate has brought us together once again!” Upon finishing her speech, her arms were ignited, casting a bright array of red and blue colored flames. Her black hair flowed behind her, reflecting the light from her ablaze arms. The ground began to be scorched by her presence alone.
Across from her, Kragen expression turned from slight shock to annoyance. He then spat, “Ah, I remember you. You were made as a last resort to stop my previous extermination upon the Terrains.” He then stood, his sludge-like body melting from the damage taken before falling off and disintegrating to dust upon contact with the ground.
His black eyes, filled with hate and disgust, narrowed at Abigail. He then let out a chuckle, recalling his first encounter with her. “My, what a mistake you are. If I recall, the 'Alpha Units' must never mix, or else the continuation of their powers will cease; but look at what abomination stands before me." Kragen teased.
"You have doomed the Terrain race with your existence alone. No one will ever consider you a hero…" Suddenly, his demeanor changed. The air around Abigail turned cold as if life around them had vanished. Lifting his left arm into the air, it began to glow an ominous purple. His body suddenly began to shift, all the mass from his limbs had moved to his arm, which had begun to transform.
Abigail showed no emotion during his transformation. His limbs were now thin as twigs, yet he still stood strong. He left arm, however, had turned into an enormous glowing scythe.
Tossing his head back, he laughed maniacally, before bellowing, “MIGHT AS WELL PUT YOU OUT OF YOUR MISERY!” Lurching forward with inhuman speed, he unleashed a wave of energy slashes upon the woman. Standing her ground, she blocked each blow effortlessly with walls of fire, then returning the attack with fireballs. Kragen jumped from column to column, sending waves of slashes at Abigail while also dodging her attacks as well. Smoke began to fill the throne room from the impact of their attacks.
The dense smoke made it impossible for Abigail to track Kragen's movements, thus she stopped attacking and waited for the smoke to clear. Abigail gasped for air, tired from unleashing powerful attacks. She remained vigilant, waiting for Kragen to make his move. Her left hand held out, prepping a fire attack, while her right hand was behind her.
"Coward, come and face me head on!" she shouted into the smoke around her, trying to tempt Kragen into attacking her.
Then, as if to answer her demand, Kragen appeared before her, dissipating the smoke that clouded Abigail's vision with a slash of his weapon. Following this, the scythe was now in the perfect position to strike Abigail. She didn’t have any time to dodge as the blow came. It sliced down from her left shoulder, before stopping midway in her torso.
“Grgh!" Abigail whined in pain as the blade remained inside her. Her head fell forward, unable to focus her gaze at Kragen from the pain. Her arms fell to her side at the shock of the blade.
Kragen huffed, “All bark and no bite, huh sweet Abigail? You were always a bit presumptuous. But now look at you... Trying to put up a fight as your precious city burns to nothing!" He motioned his head to the burning ruins of the city she once held dear.
"I've killed so many of your disgusting filth of a species that I can't tell if that's ash or the fading essence of them!" He said with a twisted smile as if he enjoyed the thrill of causing so much death and destruction.
"And now, here we are...Two beings that rival in power and belief...AS IF WE COULD EVEN COME TO A PEACEFUL ARRANGEMENT?!" He growled out as he pushed the blade further into Abigail's torso, earning a grunt of pain from her.
"You caused me so much trouble that I rather get this done quick and easy and not spend a single second seeing your irritating face any longer than I have to...but..." He paused as he drew Abigail closer to him as if to whisper to her. Then, in the depths of his obsidian eyes, violet iris slits broke out, making his eyes appear more animalistic and demonic.
"...I'm not one to pass up the opportunity to watch the dying essence of an Alpha Terrian, now am I... So, might as well make YOUR DEATH AGONIZINGLY PAINFUL!” He bellowed.
The purple glow appeared again on the scythe, which then ate away at Abigail’s body. Where the blade made contact began to turn black. But, no further noise came from Abigail.
Kragen face turned to annoyance in response to her emotionless behavior. Roughly grabbing her face with his right hand, he forced her to look at him as he spat out words of fiery.
“WHY AREN’T YOU SCREAMING! I WANT TO HEAR YOUR SCREAMS OF AGONY AND PLEAS TO BE KI- HNnnk?!" His outcry was cut short when he felt a searing pain in his torso.
Looking down, he was shocked to find an Ordian dagger was plunged into him.
'WHEN DID SHE GET THI-?! Wait...d-don't tell me she...' His thoughts trailed off as he looked closely at the dagger.
While yes, it indeed was shaped like an Ordian weapon, curved at the right angle to slash away at any victim, the purple hue that signified their power was emanating from the blazing fire surrounding the blade rather than the blade itself.
Realizing what this meant, he shifted gaze back at Abigail, who now had a gleaming smile across her face seeing his demise finally come to be.
“Gnh… Didn’t see that, did you?” She said weakly, as she used the last of her strength to twist the blade, causing the purple blaze to grow in size and spread across his torso. Trying to reach and pull the dagger out, his right arm was held back Abigail's right hand.
Trying to wrench himself free, Kragen screamed in her face, “WHAT ARE YOU?! How can you use Ordian powers? Release me at once!” Yet, his attempts were futile, the flames spread further across his body.
Laughing weakly, Abigail lifted her head to see the smoke clearing above them. The bright sun shined brightly above them. Closing her eyes, she basked in the light one final time, knowing her end is near. Her entire body was now engulfed by darkness, which began to disintegrate away into the air. Tilting her head back down to face Kragen, who glared at her ferociously. His body was suffering the same fate.
Rather than return the glare, she smiled hopefully, knowing that her plan had worked.
Kragen screamed, “Why are you at peace with this?! Killing me won’t stop my army from exacting my revenge! Can't you see that your race has lost their most powerful protector, you! You’re the most powerful Terrain to be created, but choose to throw away your life to kill me?!”
He outbursts come to a halt, then he tried to regain his composure, “Y-yet, there was n-no way to transfer your power to the next of kin, w-which means that I WO-?!"
At that moment, Kragen that noticed two small children cowering at the sight before them. A boy with jet black short hair and red eyes had his arm stretched out protecting the other child behind him. Her sky blue eyes contrasted with her vibrant red hair that was as long and loose as her mother.
Abigail turned her head to face her children, smiling sorrowfully, before muttering her last breath, “Take care you two. I love you very much. I know you will do the right thing in the future. Goodbye…”
Finishing her goodbye, she vanished into the air. Kragen was not far behind. He fell to the ground, still shocked at the two children before him. He cursed under his dying breath.
“Insignificant wench, where did she find a freak like her to create you two? Heh...hehe... perhaps she lost her mind as well..." He said voice filled with sick joy, before falling silent, his body losing its strength to hold together.
The children watched as he crumbled away into dust. The girl held tighter on her brother's back, slightly shaking in fear. Seeing their mother fade away, they sat among the remains of the throne room, not knowing what to do. Suddenly, a voice echoed from the halls outside the throne room.
"Octavia! Chase!"
Both of them turned to where the familiar voice was calling their names, a small hidden corridor that was hidden by a pillar.
"Where are you two?" The voice drew closer, then running out to the open, a white-cloaked figure came rushing to the children, who still stayed where they were. "Its too dangerous for you two to b-... Abigail?" The figure stopped short, now seeing a pile of dust in front of the children. The figure shuffled forward slowly, taking in the sight of what was the remains of his wife. He fell to his knees, accepting that she was dead.
"Why? Why did it have to come to this." The man sobbed, his hands flew up to this face as he continued to mourn. He did not notice that the children were now beside him until he felt a small hand tap his arm. He looked over to see the concerned looks of that were on their face. He reached out and hugged them while sobbing out apologies.
"I'm s-sorry. I w-wish that I was here sooner. I could've protected her. I'm sorry..." He continued his apologies, his grip tightening around the children as he buried his face into their shoulders.
Suddenly, he felt a hand on top of his head while also hearing a voice, 'Rylan...' Looking up, he saw the spirit of Abigail, glowing a dim white. She made no further sound, only tilting her head to the sight and smiling.
Rylan made no sign of moving, only taking in the image of his wife. He felt the children he was still clinging on to shift from his grip and face him, not knowing that their mother was behind them. They spoke, "Don't worry daddy, mommy wouldn't want you to cry. We have to be strong, remember?" Their voices were filled with determination and hope.
Rylan felt tears stream down his face, feeling joy and optimism from these two. He looked back to where Abigail was, only to find that she had disappeared. Rylan stood up, holding hands with the children and made their way out of the ruined kingdom.
