Crap, crAp, CRAP!!! I’m late! For the third time this week I’m late! Emily will castrate me! I don’t get it! I’m usually up early in the morning at 6 but somehow, for some weird reason, I woke up and it’s 9 o’clock.
Panicking won’t help, so, I quickly get out of bed and take a shower (doesn’t matter, I can’t be any later, smh). Putting on my shirt and tidying up my hair a bit. My hands reach for my toothbrush, turn on the sink and put toothpaste on the bristles. I frantically grab my shoes and jump down the stairs, almost tripping, to be honest.
I look down, feeling chilly. What I see makes me feel like a moron, I forgot to put on my damn pants! I settle the problem as fast as I can, knocking over a few pictures on my dresser. I head into the bathroom and wash my toothbrush. Once I’m done, I put on my shoes and grab some bread. I scope the area around for anything I might be missing, my eyes rest on my backpack. It looks very neglected, I’m not surprised, I always slam it on the ground when I get home. I sling it over my shoulder, turn of the lights and I’m out the door. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a metal frame. The picture inside shows me and another person. I don’t remember who it was. And I don’t care.

“Charles Whatever-your-middle-name-is Hall! Where the hell have you been?” Emily screeches across the hall, violently striding towards me. I casually walk closer to her, making sure not to seem scared. “Well? I’m waiting, young man.” I take a deep breath, analyzing the situation. This is it: A tired me vs. an angry Emily. Bogus excuse vs. Emily’s wrath. Honest reason vs. Emily’s motherly instincts. Chance of survival: 0%.
“I slept in,” I announce honestly. Emily looks at me with a suspicious eye.
“Oh, really now?”
“I swear, it’s the truth! I don’t why I keep sleeping in. It’s like I’m physically well rested, but not mentally. Like my brain hasn’t caught up with the rest of my body.” Emily lets out a breath.
“When you put it that way, I might end up believing you,” Emily grins. “But seriously, if that’s going to happen, you should see a doctor.” Her tone makes me realize that she’s serious about this.
“Fine, if it happens again I’ll go to the doctor.” Emily nods and grabs my arms. She walks backwards, looking at me and telling me some story about a date she had with some dude the entire time until we got to Biology class.
“Well, this is where I leave you. Bye, and don’t fall asleep again in class. I know you hate Biology but you gotta pay attention if you want to pass the semester.” Emily let go of my arms and kissed my cheek. I bade her goodbye and entered the classroom. I didn’t know the ride (don’t make that a joke) I was in for.
