The thing I hated the most about a new year is observing people get new resolutions, they would start out as simple things like losing weight or saving money but then go out to commitment, to a job, a hobby or in the hardest of cases, a person.
This is something that a lot of people find easy to do such as myself, but a lot of people find hard, such as Harvey Erikson. It had only been twelve hours since he had proclaimed Kassidy Micheals to be his on his Instagram story. She sent him heart eyes on his live stream of him vaping, you would at least think they were getting serious... right like those things ever do.
It was minutes after the countdown of 2018 had I seen him with his tongue down his ex-girlfriend's throat and another few minutes before I had since posted a pic to my Instagram story.
In my head, there was not a single thought about a drunk seventeen-year-old like myself acting in any sought of anger, I was wrong.
Because it was only another few minutes before I was followed outside by Harvey himself. He couldn't have waited for an even more perfect place to follow me. We were at a bar called 'The Wolf's House' which was ironically made of bricks. It was a simple little bar with little spots outside for those who seek a quieter area.
My tongue licked my lips preparing words to leave my mouth. "Do you need something Erikson?"
I turned around facing him. His eyes were a drunken red matching with his swollen lips and the hickeys on his neck were purple like his shirt, his face was sweaty but his beard was lined quite well, on a normal day someone would think he was just tired but for me, the smell of vodka would knock that thought out.
"Give me your phone," He said groggily looking up due to his shortness.
My lips went up in a smirk. "Too late, sixty-eight people have already saved my status."
"Kassidy is going to kill you," With a point to him and a tantalising smile, I continued.
He glared at me clenching his jaw. "You just gonna stand there or...?"
My tone was threatening but in my head, I was just messing with him.
It all came slowly, the sound of his shoes against the wet concrete floor and the small shout of action that left his mouth. His fist was flying but in no time was my hand against his wrist
"You probably shouldn't have done that Alpha Harvey." I bent his wrist back leaving only the sound of cracking bones.
He took a bold move letting another forward which was caught again. My eyes shined and electrifying gold as his went a dull red. He stopped struggling and began crawling out of my grip.
"What are you?" His fear could be smelt from miles away.
My intention was messing with him, pushing that with my next sentence. "I'm your worst nightmare."
A fire burned in my hands getting ready to hurt this cheater when a familiar laughter ran through my ears. "His worst nightmare?! Seriously, Hazel, that's a new low for you."
Despite the slight irritation I smiled and clapped my hands. "You have impeccable timing."
I turned to face the person's whose voice ran through the thick air. She smiled but turned her attention back to Harvey.
"Leave." She demanded him, he got up and left in almost a robotic way.
She tapped my shoulder and starting pushing me down the street. "You could've let me had that."
"What kind of sister would I be if I let you commit such a crime?"
Venus has been on my back since I returned seven months ago from a mission in the underworld.
"A good sister, you would be a good sister."
She was always a little more caring than my other sister, probably because she doesn't want either of us to endure a pain greater than guilt.
"Look I know you're angry-" I cut her off.
"-angry? I am more than that of angry, I am infuriated." She shrugged and muttered something about rightfully so.
"I get it your Demon side awoke and dad pulled you on the first mission he could. I would be pissed too but you gotta realize that your demon side is still unstable. You gotta go on these little missions to make sure you don't hurt innocent people." She gestured to behind us where minutes before I was getting ready to hurt Harvey.
"He's not innocent Ve," I dragged out my hands stuffing themselves in my pocket.
"He's seventeen, a cheater doesn't make you deserving of being tortured." She was right, I could've controlled that better. Thinking about it now, what the hell actually just happened.
"So... Any reason you decided to pay me a visit?" I questioned.
She gave a smug smile. "What can't a sister check in on her other sister?"
"I sense something else Ve." She awkwardly scratched her neck and a blush grew on her face.
"Oh uh, don't be mad..." She shot my nervous eyes.
I nodded waiting for her to continue.
She took a deep breath.
"ImLookingForMyMate." She jumbled her words.
My eyebrow raised. "What was that?"
"I'm looking for my mate." I stopped in my tracks.
There is nothing wrong with an inhumane being looking for there another half. But Theas, Theas were always in danger, automatically putting their mates in danger as well. If a werewolves mate died they feel their pain and the chance you'll find another one is... Undetermined, I've never heard of someone getting a new mate. Though they do get potential mates that pain remains there forever.
"Venus..."
"Don't say it, I've already gotten so much hate for it from Dad."
I shook my head. "Venus, do you think you're ready for that. You already look over your own shoulder, you don't need to look over some else's."
She sighed but looped our arms.
She didn't respond but I could tell she wanted, she wanted to prove me wrong, she wanted to be loved in a way that would burn.
Maybe I wouldn't know since I was perfectly fine being alone.
We continued walking until we reached my house.
My hands fumbled for my key. "You're crazy Venus. This could end badly, you're not in your Element. This isn't your grounds, you don't have armies of your supernatural mobs ready to fight for you."
She nodded. "What if he's here, on these grounds?"
A laugh escaped my mouth. "What if he isn't? No one can hurt you if you're back to Forward grounds"
"But you can stay here? Middle grounds aren't yours." She stated unlooping our arms to face me fully.
The thing about my sister, she never gave up.
"I just don't want you to suffer when I or our sister can't protect you and your mate."
She glared at me letting out a frustrated sigh. "You and her-uh I'm strong! Just like you guys. I can protect us both."
"Venus, your an angel without wings- you're not as strong as us." I didn't mean to sound so harsh but it was true.
She wasn't as strong as us. "Your demon and wolf are the only parts there, if you weren't a Thea you would be a dead dog. You can't even shift."
She looked at me in disbelief and instead of replying she turned around and stomped away.
Venus wasn't easy to give up, her grounds were above known as Forward ground whereas mine was in the below so it was known as After Grounds, but I was too young to be there but I had full intention of having a life so I would spend time on the middle ground which my dad also had part rule. Venus would spend time here too but usually in Athens where she could have a connection to forward grounds.
I put my hand around the doorknob but leaned my head on the door in distress.
I opened the door, the place was quiet, too quiet. Normally the fridge would create hums as it works or the air condition would.
There was always a hum.
The hairs on my arm raised, it was kinda like my own little Spidey sense, and in no time my hand had wrapped itself around the wooden base of an Arrow.
"May I help you?"
