The Astral Vanguard

Chapter 1: A Missing Child

Chapter 1: A Missing Child

Jul 21, 2024

Age: 5 Days

In the heart of a dense forest, she ran, her breaths ragged and desperate. A mother fleeing with her child, pursued by eleven relentless knights. Her hand clasped a rune stone, pulsing faintly with latent magic—a last hope to escape the hunters chasing them.

"Wait just a little longer, my dear," she murmured, her voice etched with desperation. The rune stone, a conduit of memory teleportation, shimmered with faint light, its power wavering.

But there was only enough energy for one.

With resolve hardening her features, she touched the stone to her child's forehead and let her blood drip onto it, sealing their fate. A blinding flash erupted, swallowing the child in a vortex of white light amidst the dark, shadowy trees. Following the disappearance, only the echo of weapons striking a heartless body broke the silence.

Aidan, the head of Eldoria Village in the state of Yami no Kuni, and his wife, Lina, were abruptly awakened by their maid. She stood at their doorstep, holding an unexpected bundle: a child nestled inside a basket next to a mysterious wooden box with a nametag attached.

"Whose child is this?" Aidan's voice was laced with concern, his gaze fixed on the sleeping infant.

"It was there, sir." The maid stammered nervously while pointing towards the entrance of the house. "There was no one else around."

Aidan's brow furrowed thoughtfully as he considered the implications. "Summon the guards. We must scour the vicinity. Someone must know something about this child."

As the household stirred into action, Aidan couldn't shake the feeling that this mysterious arrival bore deeper significance. In the hushed hours of the night, amidst the whispering leaves and distant echoes, the infant's arrival heralded the beginning of a tale that would intertwine their lives with an enigmatic destiny yet to unfold.

Even after a relentless pursuit of the entire night to find out about the lost child, they failed to do so.

Age: 6 Months

Lina, cradling the infant, suggested gently, "Why don't we adopt Dajit(means: Conqueror of all) for now until we find his parents?"

Aidan nodded thoughtfully, looking at the sleeping baby. "Let's do it. Luna, our seven-month-old daughter, will have a brother as well."

Age: 5 Years

Dajit, with curiosity bright in his eyes, inquired of his mother, "Mom, why don't we have two names like the king in the book?"

She replied gently, "Because commoners don't have surnames, my child."

As they spoke, a 50-year-old man entered the room. His presence was imposing yet familiar.

"Dajit, would you like to come to my house and help me forge a katana?"

Upon hearing the familiar voice, Dajit's face lit up with excitement. He immediately began sprinting toward him, his small feet pattering on the wooden floor. Together, they headed to the old man's house, a place filled with the scent of burning coal and the clanging of metal—a place where destinies were forged.
