” For whatever reason, it may be, I shall never put down my sword.”- Leonhart, Grand Knight of Sabyan.
DING DONG DING DONG!!!!, The sounds of the cathedral bells echoed throughout the entire kingdom as early as the morning birds call. For the pious, it is the signal for their morning prayers and congregation at the nearby church to praise the day towards the Almighty, while for others it is simply a wake-up call to face the day. Not many people could ignore the bells and remain asleep.
Well, except for a certain princess.
“PRINCESS YUDA, PLEASE WAKE UP IMMEDIATELY OR ELSE YOU WILL MISS THE MORNING CONGREGATION!!!” screamed a maid’s voice towards her mistress with the decibels high enough to rival the clanging bells outside. However, the sleeping figure didn’t even move an inch and continued on with her dreams, oblivious towards her raging servant screaming beside her. This angered the maid even more, but before she managed to do so a single laid on her shoulder.
“Princess Yuda…. if you fail to wake up in the next five minutes, shall I convince your father to forbid you from going to the fair today?”; said (or rather threatened) another maid sweetly, with poison dripping at the end of the sentence. Once the warning has been said, finally the sleeping figure stirred and reluctantly got up from her bed to address the maid threatening her.
“You dare to wake me, the “Princess of War”, up at this untimely hour, and not only that, you dare threaten me as the method to do so?” said the sleeping figure towards the brave maid in front of her. “You’ve certainly got a Deathwish, don’t you?” continued the sleeping figure, menace and contempt filled her words.
The other maids who in the same room began whispering among themselves, worried about the fate of the maid facing the “Princess of War”. She is said to hate mornings and will send anyone who dares interrupt her slumber to a gruesome end. With this in mind, the other maids' gossip began to escalate and began to cause a ruckus. The sleeping princess shot a glare at the other maids which causes a lot of them to lower their gaze to the floor. The situation was grim and tension-filled the morning air, but the maid stood firm.
Her mouth then curved up into a smile.
“You still have two minutes left, princess.”; challenged the maid, her eyes met the princess’s gaze as if to challenge the princess’s authority. “And I suggest you hurry and freshen up if you don’t want me to do so.” She continued, still not breaking eye contact with the fearsome princess. This continued for a few moments, and each moment felt heavy towards the ones around them.
Suddenly, the princess’s face softens and broke into a mischievous smile. The same thing happened with the maid confronting her. Both ladies smiled and laughed, confusing the other maids surrounding them.
“Pft HA HA HA HA. You really don’t hold back now don’t you, Safiya?”, said the princess with a wide smile. The maid in front of her, Safiya, returned the smile of her mistress with a grin of her own before signaling the confused maids to prepare the princess’s bath and clothing for the day. the other maids immediately went to work, leaving the two ladies together alone in the room.
“Well, if I didn’t wake you up now, your father would’ve gone berserk knowing that his precious daughter, the famous “War Princess”, didn’t attend the morning congregation,” Safiya said while holding out a hand towards the princess in order to get her on her feet. The princess grabbed the helping hand and climbed out of bed.” He would’ve pinned the blame on me and I’d have to leave the castle. “she continued, her voice sounded a bit like a complaint, but whatever happens between them stays between them after all.
“You do know I could report to my father on how you threaten me just so I could wake up,” said Yudu with a playful tone in her voice.
“You won’t” Safiya replied instantly while looking into Yudu’s eyes
“Why not?” asked Yudu inquiringly, with her head tilted slightly to the left. Despite the question she asked, she knew full well what the answer was.
“Because if you did, then you would’ve lost your means to go out into the city every night. And…”; she stopped and turned away for a moment,
“you would have to find another maid who is willing to be your friend.” She said shyly while avoiding eye contact.
Yudu smiled at her friend before looking out the window to see the sun rising. Yes, today is going to be a great day.

“phew…. we’ve come far and now we’re here.”; said a boy in black exhaustedly followed by a man in gray overalls and his younger sister who was clinging onto him. The girl looked around timidly while keeping herself hidden away beneath the cloak of the man. After taking in her surroundings she then nodded towards her brother and started to pull onto the man’s cloak. The man leaned down and brought his ear closer to the girl, after a while, the man looked up and smiled.
“She said she can’t wait to see the big fair today. Well, it’s not exactly a surprise, it is a day of festivities after all. Who knows, we might even get money from our performance today.” Said the man with a wide grin on his face. In his eyes, which began to look like gold coins, he envisioned the amount of gold that they might get for today. With a crowd like this, probably enough to last them for a week.
“if that’s so then we’d better show a spectacular performance then.”; said the boy excitingly, the emotion which could hardly be contained has spread his mouth onto a smile.
The man agreed with the boy while looking up towards the gate of Sabyan, ecstatic to play in front of an audience again has caused him to curl his mouth into a grin. He grabbed the music case beside him and tipped his hat before walking into the city, with the two children close at his heels.
Yes, today is going to be a great day.
