“I never thought I would be here, Staring at my feet while being interrogated by complete strangers. I was told they were my family (apparently I was in the family registry under her husband's name so they decided to contact my social worker. Once they found out I was orphaned they took me in)“ I look up to see a girl about my age glaring at me harshly. “She’s lying! That Thing Is not related to me, I would know if she were…I’m an only child!” I let my gaze fall from the hysteric girl, of course what she said was true, but you could tell by looking at us that we were related in some way, we had the same long black hair and pale blue eyes, faces sharp but delicate in a way that made us look unreal, like a photo-shopped version of ourselves (or so I’ve been told) with eerily similar facial features; there was no denying. A woman, her-or our- mother (I’m guessing ) calmly grabbed her shoulder and whispered something quietly in her ear, She didn’t say anything after that. A moment of silence went by before my social worker motioned me forward. “Rhiannon, Mrs. Cara and I have been talking and the E’claire family have decided to move you in with them. Have you already packed? They expect to be home by tonight and you have about a four hour drive from here.” I stared silently, unwilling to speak up and risk letting my emotions tear through me. I continued to stare as my social worker rushed to explain in hushed tones that my aunt had gone crazy and tried to kill me just before she killed herself, they slowly drift into a separate room. I just stood silently as I heard hushed giggles to my right. “Wow, her mother doesn’t want her so now she’s trying to sneak into our family…that’s so vile!” I glance out the corner of my eye and see the girl from before talking with another girl that I had not noticed. Though they both looked similar I could tell that it was just in the way that cousins sometimes resemble each other. The other girl had dark brown hair where the first girl had black, her eyes were green but had a slight blueish tint that it still looked blue in a certain light, and her facial features looked like a counterfeit version of the first girl. “Reah, don’t be so loud, she’ll hear us!” the girl whispered harshly, she had an annoying whinny tone to her voice that made me internally cringe. “Oh Shut-up Aubrey! I already know she can hear me, right Rhainon…” I tense. It’s Rhiannon, I think. Before anyone can say anything else Mrs. Cara and my social worker come back into the room with my bags. “alright, we’ll have all of your things shipped to your new home, all you need at the moment is in this duffel bag.” I swiftly step back before my social worker can grab my shoulder, she stands there awkwardly her hand reaching out for nothing but air. “uh..well, Good luck!” I nod and grab my duffel. I hope this place is better than the last home I was in, otherwise I don’t think I will survive.
