'Shitshitshit! I thought it was clear!' Kenta thought, pressing his hand over his mouth and his other hand clutching his ragged backpack when he heard the growling get louder outside. 

The Mutated moved along from the Konbini Kenta's hiding in when something further ahead got their attention. Letting him sigh and relax before getting up to find what he was looking for: food and supplies. 

Stepping carefully around the plastics on the floor to avoid making a sound, the empty shelves and smell of rat shit was all he found. Kenta felt his eye twitch at the lack of food in the Konbini! 

Even the backroom that kept restocks was already scavenged by rats and other wild animals! 

'Everything is taken already or-' Kenta gagged at the smell of moldy convenient store food that was left untouched, even the rodents didn't want it. 

Poking his head out of the Konbini, looking around to make sure those giant mutts weren't at the corner before leaving the safety of the store to find another place for rations. 

Holding his stomach in hunger and scowling at the crows flying above, "Stupid free birds... How many days has it been since I've eaten?" Kenta said to himself, jumping over fallen power lines on the sidewalk. 

The flickering lights of a vending machine in an alleyway with a row of broken ones beside it caught his attention, "Finally! A working vending machine!" Kenta ran to it with a wide grin and starry eyes... Until he fished into his pants pockets and found dried leaves, not a single yen in his possession. 

"... Damnit!" Kenta banged his head on the vending machine. The sodas inside the vending machine felt tantalizing that it made him completely forget about the fact he shouldn't be making noise unless he wants to be dog food. 

Thud. Thud. 

He scrambled to hide behind a pile trash at the familiar steps of those zombie mutts. Daring to take a glance to see if they walked past, 'What the actual fu-' Kenta forgot he was supposed to be scared when he saw someone laying on top of a Mutated! 

Aren't those zombie dogs supposed to eat humans!? Who's the suicidal maniac using one as a horse?!
