Most people when presented with an opportunity for greatness, rise to meet the call.
But not Will.
As he stood outside that drab grey building, holding an oatmeal tinged cardboard box that contained the contents of his desk, he thought life couldn't get much worse.
From a financial standpoint, William Sylas has very little to look forward to. After a year of working as a character designer for one of the biggest names in game development, William now stands bereft of his dream.
The high luminescent sign of "Starbound Games" flickers on while the street below fills with the low amber light of the coming sunset.
Moving cars mimic the sound of his breath as they pass him along the L.A street.
Loading the box into his trunk, he slams the rusted white door to his 2 door sedan. A dinky little car he bought for $500 in Highschool, the three-cylinder engine certainly has run to the end of its life, it's only a matter of time before it blows.
William plops down into the old worn seats and lets out a long drawn out breath as if he had been holding it in for the past year.
"I really fucked up, didn't I?" he silently whispers to himself.
He rubs his wet eyes and runs his hands up through his shaggy blonde hair, pulling it back and out of his face.
While a few tears run along his cheek, his face is lit up by the sudden illumination from his phone below.

Joshua Neason Invites you to an event.
"Josh?" William sits there puzzled.
Will and Josh were friends back in high school, one of those friends that he added a while ago and sort of just forgot about. Will remembers a few years ago he became an investment banker and began posting pictures posing with beautiful women and spending time at lavish resorts. He hadn't spoken to Josh at all for the past six years and wondered why he would be inviting him to anything.
Will goes to ignore the message but as his hand reaches for the lock button he falters and curiously swipes the notification open.
Maxton Estate House Party (Private)
9364 Beverly Range Place
8:30 PM - 2:00 AM / July 18th
- You know what's up -
"No, I certainly do not know "what's up". What the hell Josh? This is tonight... is this for real?" William says aloud.
Looking through the pictures, Will sees albums with pictures of people packed into a multi-tiered Beverly Hills mansion. Drinking shots, dancing, jumping into the pool, making out, the parties seem absolutely insane.
"Is that Keanu Reeves?" He says, stopping on a particular image, "maybe I should..." Will begins to open a chat with Josh but stops short.
He hasn't seen Josh since High School, it's likely just an accident that he invited him. To be honest, normally raging parties arent Will's thing, they're filled with loud people, loud sounds, and there's never anywhere to sit. But after the kind of day he's having, maybe he deserves to get a little drunk at some lavish chateau.
So without a single extra thought, Will clicks "Going" and slides his phone in his pocket. With a sly smile, he shifts his little car into drive and makes his way to the night of his life waiting at the Maxton Estate.
