The Detective Hektor Break

Case I: Regnum Aetheris — Schism or Suspicion? - Part 1

Case I: Regnum Aetheris — Schism or Suspicion? - Part 1

Nov 01, 2026

In a massive city known as Nostalgic City, there is a detective quite well-known in the business for discovering and solving cases using his time power. Even though solving things might seem easy, you never know what comes next in a given case; every challenge arrives like a puzzle. In his journey, his power, at the same time it is his ally, can be his greatest enemy: the more he goes back in time, more of his sanity is consumed, making each case a difficult test to keep it together. For this, he has two assistants to give him support with whatever he needs and help handle these challenges. Yet, most cases seem to come from someone that not even the time power itself can reveal. Out of all the successful cases in his career, he still hasn't solved this mystery that has been haunting him for a long time... This is the story of a detective who, even with the greatest power, knows his next step could always be his end.

Right at this moment, I am in the passenger seat, while Henrique is lying down in the back seat.

Lazy as always... — Hektor thought.

Eleanor has been driving for about 30 minutes toward the office.

— I wanted to drink some champagne and out of nowhere the guy passes out on the couch. Weird for the owner herself to steal something that belongs to her... What do you think, Hektor? — Eleanor asked.

— Beats me, Eleanor... I find it weird how she simultaneously knows and doesn't know — Hektor spoke.

— Is that plant really that rare? — Eleanor asked.

— There are only three of them in the world. The yellow lily is simply a walking energy battery. And when I say energy, I mean powers — Hektor said, while watching the neon lights of the city.

As he rambled in his thoughts, he snapped back to reality, looked at Eleanor, and then looked forward again.

— There are rumors among scholars that a person tried to use the plant's energy and ended up losing their powers because they couldn't handle the intensity — Hektor explained.

Eleanor, while stopping at a red light, thought about what happened and about the glowing plant. When the light turned green, she continued driving the car.

— That's why they tell people not to get close — Eleanor spoke.

— Yeah, especially people with supernatural powers, because normal people can get close — Hektor said.

— Got it — Eleanor spoke. — You guys must be tired, you can go straight home.

— It's already 11:37 PM... I'm going to message the bro regarding the King and Queen's case over there — Hektor spoke.

— What time? — Eleanor asked.

— Considering you guys will sleep around midnight... Around 10 AM, but I believe possibly later, or at most around 11 AM — Hektor calculated.

— Fair enough. The thing is, after that it's still a 3-hour trip — Eleanor reminded.

— I predict this case is going to be long — Hektor concluded.

— Can your power go to the next day? — Eleanor asked, curious.

— No, no... Cases involving royalty are usually complex — Hektor replied.

Returning his thoughts to the dialogue from a call earlier, Hektor still pondered the suspicions mentioned in that conversation:

He told me something that left me a bit confused, but I got the point... I'll explain later — Hektor thought.

— Is that cool with you? I worry about your mental health — Eleanor spoke.

— We have to solve cases, right, Eleanor... Most of the time we need to decipher these mysteries, both to solve and give answers to so many questions, and — depending on the case, rare as they might be — to prevent something from evolving to the point of affecting all of us — Hektor spoke.

— You're right. I asked because I worry, you know. Today's case was actually pretty light — Eleanor spoke.

— Yeah, more or less, right? Today we can say the case was light, and thank goodness nobody got hurt — Hektor spoke.

Then, after 30 minutes pass, they finally arrive at Hektor's house. Eleanor parks the car, and right after, the automatic garage door closes.

— We're at your house — Eleanor spoke.

Then, stretching, she had an idea that combined her desire to rest with her laziness to drive back to her own place.

— Look, how about we have a sleepover? Pajama dawn! Besides, your house is close to the office — Eleanor proposed.

Hektor, pondering the idea, checks the time on his watch and then looks back at Eleanor, who looks excited, while Henrique keeps sleeping.

— Do you guys have a change of clothes? — Hektor spoke.

— I have them in my bag — Eleanor said.

— WAKE UP, Henrique! — Hektor shouted.

— Ow... What a scare, damn it... Are we home? — Henrique spoke, drowsy.

— Not yet, we're sleeping at the boss's house — Eleanor spoke.

— Fine, I'll take that... Lucky I have home clothes in my backpack — Henrique spoke.

Hektor's house directly matches his style: an old-school vibe, but with a perfect mix of vintage and technological.

— The corner couch is mine — Eleanor claimed.

— No fair, I was going first. I'll stay by the TV — Henrique complained.

— There are three sofa-beds. As you guys know, I don't have a guest room. You can sleep peacefully, when I leave I won't wake you up — Hektor spoke.

As Hektor headed toward his room, he stopped and turned his gaze back to Henrique and Eleanor.

— Get some rest — Hektor spoke.

— Good night, Hektor — Henrique spoke.

— Good night, boss — Eleanor spoke.

— Good night, you two — Hektor spoke, entering his room.

I wonder if I can take a vacation after this case... — Henrique thought.

Then, Eleanor grabs a pillow and hits Henrique right in the face.

— Go to sleep, guy, damn it — Eleanor spoke.

Come morning, Hektor wakes up a bit past his usual time. Quickly getting ready, and already set to go to the office, he observes Eleanor sleeping with a pillow over her head, while Henrique was sleeping any which way.

Woke up just a little late... It's 8 o'clock, I'm only slightly behind. I'll leave them sleeping — Hektor thought.

Detective's Office in Enfield — 9:30

Lying on the armchair and staring at the ceiling of the office, Hektor's mind is completely blank, until the sound of a little bell alongside the opening door makes the noise that brings Hektor back to reality. A slight sigh is heard from Eleanor, who just smiles and lets out a soft chuckle upon noticing Hektor was spacing out.

— Good morning, Hektor, I've arrived — Eleanor spoke.

— Good morning, Eleanor — Hektor replied.

— Did you make coffee? It smells good — Eleanor spoke.

— It's country coffee, very fragrant indeed — Hektor spoke.

Placing her bag on the armchair next to her, Eleanor grabs a cup, pours some coffee and drinks it, and liking it, she fills the cup up with plenty of coffee and goes to sit next to Hektor.

— It's really good, I'm gonna end up drinking more, huh — Eleanor spoke.

— Go ahead — Hektor spoke.

Then the sound of the bell and door arises again, and up pops Henrique, with a few dark circles under his eyes and a carefree demeanor, waving to both.

— Good morning, Henrique — Hektor and Eleanor spoke together.

— Good morning, guys... Do we already have a gig or are we going to chat a little bit before? I mean, I don't mind — Henrique spoke.

— Go to work, my friend — Hektor spoke.

— Nah... — Henrique mumbled.

Hektor and Eleanor move to the sides, opening space in the middle of the couch. As soon as Henrique sits down, Eleanor and Hektor waste no time and squeeze Henrique in the middle.

— What's with that tired face? — Hektor spoke.

— Coming from you, who slept the most? — Eleanor spoke.

While squeezing their friend on the armchair with questions, once again the sound of the bell and the door echoes in the small room, making everyone look toward the entrance. A man in a suit appears, waving to everyone.

— In a few minutes, a driver will show up to take us to the crime scene. My name is Leonardo — Leonardo spoke.

Then Leonardo withdraws and waits outside.

— Today's case is pretty light, from what they told me — Hektor spoke.

— Let's hope so, right? I remember you freaking out last week — Eleanor recalled.

— I freaked out because I had to jump two days back in time — Hektor justified.

— Can you jump forward? — Henrique asked.

— I sure can — Hektor spoke.

As soon as he answers that, he stands up, jumps forward, and then returns to the couch. Henrique, understanding what his boss did, stays silent and watches with a bored expression, while Hektor gives a light laugh and returns to the topic:

— I can, but only for 3 seconds — Hektor explained.

— Why? — Henrique asked.

— If I pay a price going backward, imagine going forward — Hektor said. — Maybe I'll do some testing, but only when things are calm.

— And about the location? — Eleanor asked.

— Because it's a restricted area, they don't want us seeing the route — Hektor spoke.

— How annoying, huh — Hektor complained.

— I imagine the car windows are those racing ones where you can't see inside. Fancy car... — Henrique commented.

— You can buy one yourself — Eleanor said.

— Nah, I don't want to — Henrique refused.

— You don't want anything? — Hektor spoke.

— Nope — Henrique replied.

— Got it — Eleanor spoke.

— I wish I had your energy. I stay in bed for about 30 minutes before getting ready to leave — Henrique confessed.

— Good morning, Detective Hektor and assistants Eleanor and Henrique. I beg your pardon for interrupting your conversation, but I ask you to accompany us to the place we discussed on the phone yesterday. There is a suspicion that a murder case might happen — Leonardo said.

Observing the limousine, Hektor notices that the car model is low-slung and possibly bulletproof because of the shine of the special metal used for defense.

— What a nice bodywork — Henrique said.

— It's already outside, wait a second — Hektor said.

— Don't you have bodyguards? — Leonardo said.

— What? I don't need any, I have my assistants. It might not look like it, but both of them do martial arts. Besides being on a very urgent case, they have a gun in their pocket — Hektor said.

— Hektor, you're sitting in the middle — Eleanor said.

— Why? I want to sit by the window — Hektor said.

— We've already decided — Henrique said.

— You guys are annoying, really — Hektor said.

Thus, everyone gets into a slightly large car. As soon as they step inside, they realize that the view of the outside becomes completely blocked. Inside, there are authentic seats, looking like a limousine, and a TV blocking the front part, hiding the driver.

— There's plenty of space here. You guys like to mess with me, right? — Hektor said.
