“When you are done, you're good to go home, Jessie.”
A girl that was cleaning away at lonely check stand in the front end of a grocery store looks up, she's surrounded by a few other empty check stands like the ones that are open for people are further away. Looking up from the post and sees her manager, an older man with very short graying hair in a red polo, letting her know that her shift is up. She looks at the computer at the check stand, time is 4:29, a minute away from her shift ending.
“Ok, thanks!” Jessie, the girl cleaning the check stand, said with eagerness, excited to leave.
Jessie stood behind the stand she's cleaning at the height that's a little under six feet and just turned twenty. And while she wore the standard red uniforms and black jeans the all the other cashiers wore, she had a tomboyish charm to her with her looks and attitude. She has bright piercing blue eyes that contrasted with her rather pale white skin, which had a line of freckles that goes over her nose and under her eyes. And on her head, she has short black hair that goes barely under her chin-length and acid green highlight on its edges.
Her manager smiling at her and then leaving to attend other customers at the front end of the store, Jessie went to cleaning. Spraying an orange fluid and wiping at the conveyor belts of her stand, cleaning off the day's grime from all kinds of foods that ran down it. Shes now cleaning at a hurried pace as fast as she can so she can get out, but still missing her time to leave by a couple of minutes. She stops to take a look at her work, the check stand being mostly cleaned but for a few smudges strewed around on it. Jessie shrugs to herself, thinking that whoever will be on checking here wouldn't notice it tomorrow. She puts the cleaning supplies away and leaves the check stand, to get out for the day.
She goes down the rows of other check stands, trying to dodge the incoming traffic of customers that are also leaving. There's a small hallway near the customer service desk that's for employees only, without a door leading to it. Down it was scattered with boxed supplies that could be used for anything the front end of the store could use and needed and several tall carts that held things that people wanted to return before buying thier groceries. But at the entrance of it, was a small little electronic pad for employees either clock in or out, Jessie uses it to get end her shift. quickly typing in her employee number and then pressing her middle finger onto the fingerprint reader on the device, it denied her from leaving reading "Error."
In a fit of minor frustration, she sighs and does the shift ending ritual once again and results in failure to clock out. Doing it more and more, only making her more and more annoyed as she just wants to leave and get home.
"Stupid computer, just let me leave already." Jessie angrily muttering to herself, more than ready to leave.
"Having troubles clocking in again?" An amusing male voice came from the left side of Jessie.
She turned to see who it was, another co-worker that just came into the hallway. a younger Hispanic man closer to Jessie's age wearing the red polo of a cashier, coming in for his shift.
"Nah, trying to get the hell out of here. Got the next 2 days off, so I really kinda want to leave." Jessie responded back in a friendly but annoyed tone as she tries it again.
Thankfully, seventh time is the charm for Jessie the device finally registered her finger and officially ended her shift for the day. Saying her goodbyes to her fellow co-worker as he starts his shift on the device, and gets in on the first go. Jessie leaves the hallway and backs down in front of the rows of check stands, hearing the commotion of people talking and beeping of groceries getting scanned for the last few minutes before she leaves for the day and not getting in the way of other people that are also trying to leave the store with food for the week. She makes it to the entrance doors to leave.
But before she could even walk out of the doors to freedom, someone sneaks up on her as they put their hand on her shoulder. It spooked Jessie a bit as she jumps, but it was another one of her co-workers who also was leaving and wanted to say something to her. The person was Tony Hasen, someone who always had a crush on Jessie when she first starts to work at the grocery store, though unfortunately for him Jessie never had feelings back. Jessie always thought he might have been lacking in mental compacity, seeing him always with his mouth agape, never closing it as he breathed as well just general incompetence. His body was tall and scrawny, and face covered in terrible acne with his long dirty(both in color and lack of hygiene) blonde hair fashion into greasy locks.
"Yo Jessie, you just getting off of work? You wanna do something?" Tony uttered to his crush in a fast and desperate tone, and she got the hit by his bad breath that reeked of hot trash as she tried to walk away. "Uh... you also look really pretty today too!" He quickly added in to maybe hopefully convince Jessie to maybe spend time with him.
"Uh... actually I do have something I need to do. I gotta.... Go see my dad, he hasn't been feeling too well lately." Jessie made up an excuse on the spot, hoping that he might go away as she walks out of the store.
"Oh really? Cause I heard from Joesph you were gonna go exploring some empty building tonight, and I would really like to go with you and I think we can really build our friendship together!" Tony expressed with excitement and a little bit of hope.
Jessie stopped in her tracks and gave a scared stare to Tony. She couldn't be mean, but by god did she really want to tell him to fuck off. She continued to think of some false excuse for him to go away as she continued to walk to her car and he followed suit.
"Uh I was but I decided not to, cause my dad is sick like I said. Besides rather take care of him than... Uh... Go to a scary building." Jessie lied as she sees her car in her parking spot.
"Oh, maybe next time then! I hope your dad feels better soon!" He said as he finally goes away to probably his parking spot.
"Yeah, and I hope I don't have to see your stupid mug for the next 2 days." Jessie thought to her self as she watched Tony leave, making sure he was not coming back. She sees him go to his Prius that's a little too close to her spot in the parking lot but thinking she's safe from his creepiness she continues to her car. Jessie sighed in relief as she goes up and unlocks her army green jeep and hops in, She puts the key into the ignition and starts up. She plugs her phone into the aux jack, charging it and scrolls through her music for a song to pick on the ride home. She puts it into the cupholder but then remembers she had two several days old sodas from two different fast food places occupying them. She sighs as she tosses the phone on the passenger seat and then goes off.

Arriving at her apartment complex, the place was little on the cheap side but still decent enough for human habitation and thankfully is on the good side of town, Jessie parks in her routine spot in the communal parking lot. She wastes no time getting out and climbing up the stairs to her little home on the second floor of the complex. Entering into her humble home, a little messy, with several coke cans on the counter, dirt crumbs scattered on the floor, and clean dishes still waiting to be put away into the dishwasher, she didn't have any time for her weekly apartment clean. she goes straight to her bathroom but before she can enter, she hears a soft mewing below.
Turning to the source, behind her she sees her pet cat, which is named after her favorite writer, Lovecraft, wanting his master's attention after waiting eight hours of her absence from the house. Jessie leans down and scratches her cat behind its ears, and then picks him up and holds him as if he was a baby.
"Hey sorry pal, I gotta take a shower, and then I'm heading out again soon. Sorry that I won't be here for long tonight buddy" She plays with her cat with a sad tone in her voice. "But I'm probably gonna stay in tomorrow and we read a book together or something!" She said with reassurance.
Having a few more seconds of playing with her cat, Jessie puts him down softly goes to her bathroom as he runs off. Inside her small bathroom that is actually quite tidy compared to the rest of her apartment, she undresses and throws her clothes onto the floor and turns on the water all the way hot in the shower. Hoping into the embrace of the relaxing heat as is runs down her flesh. She takes around twenty or so minutes bathing in the hot water, much-needed relaxation from a long day at work. But realizing she's been in it for way too long and not wanting to waste any more time for her plans for tonight, she jumps out of the shower and dries off. She looks herself in the mirror and admires herself for a bit.
"Dang girl, you looking good and better every day!" She says jokingly as she twirls around in the mirror as she looks at herself.
Barely drying herself with a towel, she goes to her petite bedroom and lays on her unkempt bed for a bit as the fan above her is spinning at full power to cool her off. She doesn't take too much time to relax on her seeing that it's now already 5:24, thus needing to hurry up. She puts on some underwear and a t-shirt and heads over to her computer to do a bit of research for tonight. Jessie's hobby was that of urbex, or urban exploration, and recently have heard about a location nearby that would be a dream for any explorer. She's a bit surprised she hadn't even heard of it, and even more so that the place was actually close to her home town which most places were a real trek to drive too.
The place she is going to explore is the "Chainhurst Hospital", an old and abandoned hospital that's in the outreaches of her town and hidden in the surrounding forest. She researches the place on her computer through google searches, her cat coming to her to give her company and she rewards him with stroking the back of his head. Apparently, rumor has it that there's been secret cruel experimentation done with some of the patients done back in the 60s in hopes of research for the Vietnam War or something like that. To Jessie, this sounds like typically horror movie crap but there is evidence that patients have gone missing and that resulted in its closing of the facility, which did pique her interest. Maybe she will find the cause for the disappearances, she humored herself. After some more reading on some more information, she finds the address which was hidden from the public but after digging around through some forums of old buildings she gets it and puts it into her phone's map app to save it for her drive.
After her readings, she goes into her bedroom and gets dressed for her exploration tonight. For tonight, she puts on a long-sleeved dark grey t-shirt with a dark green plaid shirt with bright green and black stripes to go over it. Some faded blue jeans and heavy doc marten boots that went up to her knees. Then to top off her outfit, she puts on her leather choker than she swears is lucky. She packs a few tactical pouches too with supplies for the night. Making sure she has everything she needs for the night, she tells her cat goodbye and she locks her apartment and goes down the complex's stairs to her car and drives off to the hospitals of horrors to spend her night at.
