I once believed that death was the only thing humans had to look forward to. Life seemed pointless if everything a person worked for ended with their death, making their sacrifices seem meaningless. I questioned why we created beings only for them to live such imperfect lives.
Humans appeared pitiful, striving for success and happiness but often finding that money and achievements did not bring true contentment. Their accomplishments couldn’t be taken to the grave or into the afterlife. I wondered if they were aware of their futility or if they simply chose to ignore it.
My perspective remained unchanged for centuries until I met a human who changed my way of thinking.
Shijin looked up from the floor staring into the eyes of the man in front of him. "Yes I understand." He answered back languidly.
The man sitting on the throne let out a loud sigh as he stared at his associate, the disappointment clear in his eyes. "I don't think you understand the severity of the situation you are currently in Shijin." The man said his loud and commanding voice booming in the celestial throne.
The other gods who were present for Shijin's trial all shuddered as they felt the man's anger growing by the second.
"You have not only broken rule seven of the empyrean commands, but you've also broken the second most important rule. Never to interfere with the destiny of a mortal!" He shouted.
Shijin stood there in silence as he contemplated whether or not he could make it out of there alive if he escaped now. Seeing how indifferent he was being, the man could feel himself losing his patience.
"As stated in our commands. The price of breaking the second rule is demotion. Your status as the number two god will be revoked and you will live the next hundred years as a minor god,"
The other gods in the room chimed in unison: "So has the head decreed."
