Vim smiled up at the moon as it rose higher into the night sky, blessing the island with its gentle light. Beautifully illuminating the oceans glistening waters blending wonderfully with the cool breeze that flowed through the forest. He breathed in the cooled air as it brushed his chilled skin.
The breeze flowed into his lungs with life as warm as the sun. He exhaled, peace flooding his veins like it was its right. That peace paired with the love for the place he called home; it was serenity.
Upon the edge of the cliff where Vim sat, he could feel it within every fiber of his being. He could feel the earth moving beneath his palms, water gushing from the stream in tandem with the air. The roots pulsing with the life they had been given by the land preparing to rest with the coming night.
Sleep was something that seemed to allude him the further the sun set upon the horizon in the distance. Opposite to its love and other half as they danced day and night till they could once again be together.
A lovely story that graced many-a-nights of his childhood. He could remember how his mother's voice sang sweeter than any songbird with a heart that shined brighter than the stars. His smile dimmed as the sound began to fade from his memory like a forgotten lullaby.
The precious memory became tainted by the pain of her loss no matter how much he wished it wouldn't. He supposed that was part of the deal, with love comes grief and grief prospers new love. It was a beautiful vicious cycle.
That was life.
You can sugar coat it as much as you would like, it won't change the truth. Life means nothing without death. Death does not exist without life.
Tomorrow, he will be celebrating another solstice of life and reeling from the death of his mother, all within a year. Vim didn't want to believe that the day would come so soon. He wished for more time, but he couldn't help being grateful for the time he had.
Wishing for something so bizarre and out of reach seemed beyond him. He understands now that pain for more. The longing for them. Like the sun longs for the moon and the sea, wishing to the stars and gods above. Longing for the peace they bring, for the warmth of their soul.
His mother was home, more so than the island ever could be.
She may have been gone in body, but in soul, she thrived. Vim could hear her song in the wind, could feel her heartbeat within the earth, her tears in the rain. Her love glowed brightest in a place he held dear to his heart.
Vim stood from his perch once the moon shined above him, leading him through the darkness of the night. The soft grass and leaves tickled his feet while his hands traced the familiar patterns in the bark as he walked by. He knew this route by heart, better than anyone on the island. The path to a sapling deep within the forest's interior.
It was where she was laid to rest. He felt a pang in his chest as the tree came into view. The moon light fell down from the heavens onto her leaves. The sapling came up to his waist now having grown since the month it was planted. It grew fast and strong.
Just as lovely as mom, Vim thought. Tears burned his eyes the longer he stood there in silence. Vim did not come to cry, he promised, but he couldn't help the sorrow that overtook him.
Vim turned lightly, hearing the snap of a twig behind him. He glanced up from the ground, expecting to find the ice blue eyes of his friend and pet. The man's dark, cold glaring gaze froze Vim in his tracks. Vim's eyes grew wide in terror as the man darted forward.
He gasped, doubling over when pain flooded his senses as the man drove the dagger deeper into his abdomen. Crimson trickled out of the wound and down his body creating a small pool at his feet. He grew cold while the warmth was drained from his body. The light colored cloth became stained with red before his eyes.
A tear fell down his cheek as his eyes found his attackers of their own accord. Vim shivered seeing no emotion in the orbs, growing pale when the stranger smiled down at him. The shiver rushed down his spine in that moment as a wailing shriek echoed through the night.
The ear piercing cry caught the man's attention, he quickly turned his head towards the forest. The sound grew in volume and clarity with each passing second. The muffled call reached Vim's ears as his sight became dark around the edges.
Vim silent scream rung deafeningly in his mind, his vision going black for a moment. The man withdrew the bloody blade watching the weak boy crumble to the ground. He huffed in disbelief and satisfaction before leaving the boy to die alone.
The pool transformed into a wide puddle beneath the moon's light, turning the earth a violent color. His thundering heartbeat drowned out the shallow breaths that rattled his chest. Tears fell from his dull eyes as he stared up at the white orb in the sky. The wind thrashed against the trees, drying out his eyes in fury.
Vim blinked sluggishly, focusing slightly on a string of green rustling out of the corner of his eye. He turned to see his sapling waving elegantly in the wind. The pure green made a small smile grace his pale lips.
He dragged his hand off his stomach and the wound, across the ground to lay his blood stained hands upon the roots of his mother's tree. The ground beneath the boy and the sapling's roots shimmered in gold that glowed brighter than the sun and were just as warm. The blessed warmth spread across Vim's dying body following the lay of the land until it reached the ocean's shore.
The ember light engulfed the island for but a moment before it dimmed as if it were never there at all. In his dying breath, Vim watched the glowing sapling grow into a thundering oak in the blink of an eye. Vim's smile was sweet and full of love as his eyes closed for the final time in this life. The moon and stars hid behind the storming clouds as the black sky burned blood red throughout the night, shaking the earth in nature's fury.
Hello Everyone! I hope you all like my new book. Please feel free to comment and like. I can’t wait to go on this journey with you guys as we find out what’s next on this adventure.
No one knows what started the war. That part of history had been lost to time long ago. All that remained were the stories our ancestors told us at night. Tales of grandeur, a life at sea, the battles waged, and tales of love. Stories that would inspire hope in the darkest of times.
What power did stories hold when the only thing that mattered was staying alive? When the story had been picked apart till not even the lesson remained? Twisted by time itself into something new. What power could a single soul possess against a world ending war? Who knew what lied in store for a little nobody from the north? Who knew that when this little 19-year old nobody, named Jax, met Ravin, a lone ranger, that the world as they knew it would be forever changed?
To discover the truth about the past, you must rewrite your future to set things right. To find the missing piece, you must dance with the Dead King.
