Renee gasped as they sat up dripping in cold sweat. Their right hand shook as they clutch their sweaty grey t-shirt. "Fuck," they mumbled under their breath and laid back down, "that dream felt... so real." They let go of their t-shirt and held their hand up – examining it front and back. They ran their hand through their brown hair and stared at the lifeless ceiling. They can still hear the echoes of Skye's voice ringing in their ears. Renee laid on their side and grabbed their phone, trying to forget their nightmare. "Huh?" Renee said to themselves as they realized their phone was left on silent mode. Two miss call from Skye. Renee's heart began to race as they jumped off the bed and called them back. What if something happened to her? Renee thoughts began to race. "Hello?" Someone else said in the other line. "Skye? Skye? Did something happen?" Renee shouted. "Good morning SleepyBug," Skye chuckled, "I wanted to know if you were still up for hanging out today, but if you're too tired-" "I'm not tired at all!" Renee rubbed some dried drool off their chin as then went into their closet to look for some clean clothes. "Alright, alright," Skye teased, "where do you want to go? They have a grande opening for that shop you wanted to go to." "Uh," Renee's stomach dropped as they thought of their nightmare, "let's... not. We can maybe go to Jim's Coffee House," Renee suggested as they took off their pants and began putting some clean ones on, "then maybe the theatre?" Renee said as they went through some shirts. "That's fine with me," Skye replied. "Alright... See you soon?" Renee said as they pulled out a red shirt off a hanger. "Yeah," Skye cleared her throat, "Hey. Mm. Love you. A lot." Skye hanged up.
Renee blushed a bit, tossed the phone as well as the clean shirt on the bed. They took off their shirt, and put on loads of deodorant. They put on the clean shirt, and put their phone and wallet on their back pockets. Renee went into the restroom and opened the faucets all the way. "Hey stupid, you're wasting water," their brother said as he passed by. "Oh, shut up," Renee mumbled as they washed their face. They grabbed a hair band and tied their short hair into a low ponytail. "Does this look okay?" They asked as they turned off the faucet and turned to their brother. "Yeah?" He raised his eyebrow, "I mean, do whatever you want. Just that, never seen you do that before." Renee shrugged their shoulders, and walked off. "Date?" He smirked. "Yeah. We're going to Jim's Coffee House," They said as they went into their room and grabbed a sheer sweater, “Does this look okay?,"Renee asked. “Yeah, you’re good,” their brother laughed as he walked away texting on his phone.
"Skye," Renee said surprised to see her outside of their house, "I was gonna meet you over there. You didn't have to come over.” “I didn't know if you would have fallen back to sleep,” Skye gave them a small smile and grabbed their hand. "Skye... you're shaking. Are you alright?" Skye put Renee's hand close to her heart. "As long as I have you, I'm fine," she smiled as she planted a small kiss on Renee's lips. “Wow, you're so cheesy.” “Thank you,” she sang, “just-”she grabbed Renee’s right hand and began to walk “-having trouble at home. Needed some fresh air and decided to come over here instead.” “I feel so loved,” Renee snickered. They grabbed Skye’s hand and kissed her index finger. “Ah!” Skye squealed as she came to a complete stop. She retreated her hand back and covered her face. “B-babe!” Skye blushed. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” Renee laughed as they took a lock of Skye’s blonde hair and tucked it behind her ear, “I just don't like to see you sad.” Skye moved her hand a bit and peeped at them. “Better?” Renee question as they smiled. “Yeah,” Skye replied as she slapped her cheeks a few times. “Good,” Renee added as they locked arms with Skye and journey forward.
To think that four years ago they were strangers playing FanastyLife who happened to be paired up in the same Dungeon. Skye was a Healer while Renee was a Tank. Skye added them as a friend soon after that, and the rest became history. Half a year ago, Renee left Birmingham, England with their brother, Ethan, and moved to California, USA. Renee was able to get into Skye’s college, while Ethan was able to get a new job. Renee glazed at Skye one more time. They felt extremely blessed to have her in their live.
“Oh, there it is,” Skye said as she pointed at the restaurant. Renee glanced at the direction she was point. A small redwood building with a yellow birdhouse by the entrance. “After you,” Renee said as they held the white door open for Skye. “Thank you, Hun,” Skye whispered as she turned her head slightly to Renee. “Bar or booth?” A waitress asked as soon as she saw them both enter. “Booth,” Renee responded after seeing there was some people at the bar. The waitress nodded and gestured them to right side and walked them to a small dark red booth. “Here are your menus,” the waitress handed each one a long menu and pulled out a memo pad and pen, “My name is Alexis, I’ll be your waiter. Would you like something to drink for the mean time?” “Coffee, please,” Skye replied and opened the menu. “May I have some water?” Renee added as they smile. Alexis nodded and excused herself.
“Ah,” Skye sighs as she looks down, causing Renee to raise an eyebrow, “Gale and Hailey are here.” Renee peeks over and sees them with another two people. “I’m sorry, I didn't know,” Skye mumbled as she began putting everything back in her purse. “Hey,” Renee began as they leaned their right hand over to Skye and grabbed her left forearm, “It’s alright.” “But, Gale always make fun of you,” Skye pleaded as she took her right hand and clutched her shirt next to her heart, “I don't like it.” Skye glanced over them and Hailey turned around at the same time. Hailey got up, and walked towards Skye and Renee. “Skye,” Hailey said as she stood by the booth. “Hello, Hailey,” Skye replied, Renee nodded towards Hailey’s directions. “You haven't answered any of my messages,” Hailey hinted has she sat down next to Renee to face Skype. “Sorry,” Skye forced a smile. Skye then glanced at Gale and the two friends, then back at Renee. “You don’t like my boyfriend, Skye?” “Huh?” “You’ve been ignoring me since Gale and I started dating.” “It’s not that,” Skye threw her hand forward in protest, “He just-” “Excuse me, a water and a cup of coffee?” The waitress whispered, trying not to interrupt the conversation. “Thank you, ma’am,” Renee smiled. “A-anything to eat?” Alexis asked as she blushed. Renee looked at Hailey and Skye, but both were quiet. “We’re good, thank you.” Alexis nodded and excused herself to the register.
“So...'just.' Just what?”
“He picks on Renee a lot.”
Hailey stayed quiet for a bit, then turned to Renee. “I. Well. Renee, is it? I don't know how to address you. Are you a guy or girl? I’ve been meaning to ask since you all been dating.” Renee blinked a few times and bit their bottom lip. Skye reached her hands across the table and held onto Renee’s hands. “Does it matter?” Skye question as she looked at Hailey. “No, not at all,” Hailey smiled.
“What do we have here?” A guy yelled. They all turned to see Gale coming towards the table.” “Babe,” Hailey smiled at Gale, though he ignored her completely and stared at Renee. “Hello, freak.” Gale laughed at Renee. “Gale, stop,”Hailey ordered him. Gale glared at Hailey and rolled his eyes. “Are you defending it cause it’s dating your childhood friend. That mean she’s a fucking creep. What the fuck are you, Renee.” “It shouldn't matter to you,” Skye scolded Gale, causing him to laugh. “And you, shouldn't you know what it is? Don’t you have sex?” Gale huffed as he stood next to Skye on her side of the table, “Unless you’ve never had sex before?” Skye looks down, embarrassed. “Gale,” Hailey warned. Renee motioned Hailey to get off the booth so they can get out. “Gale. You have a problem with me, I get it, but leave Skye out of it.” “Leave Skye out of it,” Gale mocked.
Splash.
Hailey threw Renee’s water all over Gale. “We’re done,” She said as she put the cup down. Gale slowly lunged at Hailey. “D-don’t,” Skye protested as she gripped her coffee mug by the handle. “You’ll regret this,” Gale threaten Hailey. “Oh,” Renee pinched the bridge of their nose, “Shut the fuck up or just eat my ass,” Renee then gripped Gale by his shirt, “You’re wondering if I’m a guy or girl, but I honestly think you want either my ass, or for me to fist yours. Get out of the closet.” The whole café turned quiet. "I'm not a faggot like you," Gale mumbled back and stared at his friends, motioning them to follow him outside.
“Dude,” Hailey whispered. “I-I’m sorry,” Renee gasped as they covered their mouth with both hands. Renee glared at Skye and then back down. “Skye?” Renee mumbled as they removed their hands off their mouth. “I think I fell in love all over again.” Skye teased. “I’ll pay for your coffee.” Renee blushed as they headed to the cashier. “Wow,” Hailey stared in awe. “I know.” Skye smiled a bit as she stared at Renee stumbling around like an idiot.
