For seven generations, house Hyac only produced ice related wielders, until that is, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month.
Tattered books sat apon endless shelves, they collected dust with each passing moment. The abandoned library oozed archaic aura.
The front desk has a single paper, the ink of the pen dried with age. A message, failed to be written, nor be sent.
It's writing, in language of old. Copied from a forgotten book, each page shimmered with wisdom. All knew the final poem mustn't fall into the wrong hands. 'Once was lost,
Now for but a cost,
The ability,
To change at will,
But in this power,
In this grief,
A secrets remains, abide,
If you wish,
And do not toss
These words of wisdom,
You will find the star.'
Unknown's pov:
The sound of footsteps approaching the hall caused me to jolt from my late night studies. 'Who could be up at this hour?' I asked silently.
My question was answered.
Tap, tap, clatter.
The sound grew closer every waking moment, I blew the candle out and hopped into bed, searching for the sound of retreating footsteps,
But there were none. A faint light flickered, the shadow loomed forward. I gulped down the sensation of fear, hoping it would be one of the various maids that would do night shifts
Ever so often. But no, it didn't sound like the flop of servant footwear, but thick, heavy, boots.
Whoever stood directly outside my door, certainly shouldn't have been there, I held my breath, pulling the covers up to my collarbone.
Slowly the door creeped open and I could make out the figure. Nobody I recognized, that was for sure. I squeezed my eyes shut as they took a step closer.
"Nadia?" The voice sent a quiver through me spine, how could they possibly know my name? "Y- yes?" I managed to utter through my fear.
"I am here to take you to the Magia Academy." "Yeah right." I tried to conceal the amusement from my voice, to no avail.
"You are an elemental wielder, and you have a destiny beyond your wildest dreams." I felt like scoffing.
"What are you taking about?? I'm the only one out of four children that doesn't have an elemental gift." I yearned to scream out in frustration, but no sound came.
"You must know your parents don't tell you enough." A smile of dismay formed on my face. Whoever this person was, they were very confused.
A slight laugh escaped my lips. I sat up, boldy facing this intruder. They had no shame whatsoever, it amused me to the fullest.
"Who even are you?" I sneered, standing up. My nightgown swayed just under my knees as I shifted my feet.
"I'm Raya of the mare league, also known as the league of the sea." I crossed my arms, still skeptical. "What makes you so sure I have elemental abilities?"
I gave Raya a disproving glare as I stepped forward, my blue eyes like a piercing cold flame.
"Meet me at the Heroes of Magia statue tomorrow at noon." With that Raya dashed out, leaving no trail. I shut the door, locking it before curling into bed and dozing to sleep.
Nadia's mom's pov:
I stood up, fastening a basic gown over my nighttime clothes. I slipped my sandals on and walked out the door.
I grabbed the newspaper off of the ground and walked back inside, reminding myself today was newspaper money collection day.
My eldest son, Rey, would be attending the entry festival for the guilds. I had promised that I would be there when he was accepted.
Certainly, the day would be very busy. I heard the sound of the rest of my children waking. I turned to the second eldest, Josephine, she was three years younger than Rey.
"Good morning dear." "Morning mom." Josephine yawned, stretching her legs and arms. I looked over my shoulder to hear a knock on the door.
